Need a new CROSS poly in my Babolat VS GUT HYBRID - advice needed :)

I use Luxilon BB Alu Rough in the crosses in my Babolat VS GUT hybrid, but looking for a poly with better tension maintenance and still pretty good spin.

I've tried Weiscannon Silverstring and it was OK, but looking at either the Signum Pro Poly Plasma Pure 1.24 or MSV Hex 1.18 as a cross string in my nat gut hybrid.

Will the thinner gauge poly in the crosses cut faster through the main Babolat VS Nat gut 1.30 gauge than a thicker poly or what ?

What should I go for ?

Both SPPPP and MSV Hex are good string, and yes, the MSV will cut through the gut faster, but more due to the shape than to the gauge IMO. What about Signum Blackline Tornado? It has twisted surface <so more "bite", since you're accustomed to BBAlu Rough>, better tension maintenance than either SPPPP or Hex, good-to-very good feel, comfort and resilience, and is available in both 1.17 and 1.23 gauges...

I might have found the holy grail of Hybrids! I tried out the following setup today, and it might be the best I have ever tried! I will need to play with it a few more times before I can be certain.

Gaucho Gut with MSV Hex crosses!

Tons and tons of spin and control with no ill effect on your arm! The ball just stays on your strings for so long with this blend!

That said, MSV Hex is the best poly to cross Nat Gut that I have encountered so far.

I did consider the Signum Tornado, but heard bad things about it - like very poor tension maintenance and the twisted shape comes off very fast after some ball hitting and not that good spin.

Have you tested it yourself, and found the Tornado had great tenson maintenance or do you go by what Signum says on the package, knowing that the older Signum Pro Poly Plasma had great tenson maintenance ?

In my humble opinion I wouldn't use a texture poly cross in any hybrid. All due respect to Fed, but what's the point? Any benefit of texture - namely, increased ball bite - would only be conferred by the main strings. A textured cross might impede movement of the mains and possibly decrease durability by slicing through them quicker. (I think a hex in the cross would be a decidedly bad idea)

I heard people talk a lot about how ALU is just gimmickry and that there are cheaper equivalents, but I totally disagree. It's a head above the rest.

I think the Fluoro is even nicer, with better feel.

I agree, but as I say, Luxilon plays great for a couple of hours and then dies. My gut last me 12-15 hours, so looking for something which will work for at least 10-12 hours before it dies, do you think Luxilon (Fluoro or rough) last that long as a cross string hybrid ?

I like regular alu power not the rough in the crosses. I feel like I get to much bite with the rough as a cross.

With polys that are textured like MSV Focus Hex, you're right, there is no point because the ridges are facing the wrong way to produce topspin (it would have to be sidespin or a really weird swing). With Alu Rough, it isn't ridges as much as it is texture, so it affects the spin no matter what direction it is facing. It is more like little spikes on the string instead of being hexagonal ridges, if you get what I'm saying.

I voted for ALU, but try Poly Force (original) for a stiff, durable, string that keeps tension better then most polys.

Supracool --- what tensions are you using with this hybrid? I have a few sets of these and want to give it a try. I'd be putting it in a MG Prestige Mid or a K90.

MSV Hex 1.23 - best new poly out there for use in a nat gut hybrid

Signum Pro Poly Plasma Pure 1.24 - still the best solid choice for tension maintenance

Luxilon BB Alu Power Rough - The best choice, even though its tension drops fast...

NONE OF THE ABOVE - you need to look for a new poly, I will tell you about it :)
