Should there be a playoff for third place in Grand Slams?

Hello everyone,


How are you today? :):)


I think it would be very cool if the two players who lost in the semis could play against each other for extra prize money and ranking points, for both the women and men in Grand Slams.


The fans would love it.....but the players......the question is, would they be too tired or not motivated enough to care?


The playoff for third place could be played on the same day as the final.

No seriously, there is no need for a third place besides a less damaged ego for those that lost in the semis

I doubt the players would bother playing for third place, especially if it meant another five-set match.

The reason I thought about it is.....don't they do this at the Olympics? :cry:

That's different because there's a gold, silver and bronze medal to award. A bronze medal is still worth fighting for if the player isn't being selfish because it adds to their country's medal count and they get to be in the medal award ceremony and receive a medal.

There should be a tiny little plate for third place that players can wave around and show off to everyone.

I would have checked all of the above EXCEPT......."Serendipitous needs to find a life outside of Talk Tennis"........cute options!, but in all honesty, why not?.......It is always made to be such a big deal who the top 4 seeds are or more significantly, HOW 3 and 4 will be in the draw, so lets have a TOP 4 LOOSER, and give him less prize money and less points

another thought on this.....if there were a third place "consolation" type match, it would provide a better account of rankings, as there is no way Murray should be ranked higher than Djoker at this time, lets weed out pretenders

well there is a plate and a cup, whats left... well utensils...

some expensive utensils for the 3rd place winner? I like it :)

And the 4th place winner could get the food!

Even as recently as 1979 when John McEnroe won hi first US Open, there was not even so much as a duplicate mini trophy for him to keep!

So, lets just see whos best!

No, those guys play enough tough matches already. The Tour should consider helping players avoid overplaying, thereby fostering higher quality of play. That's my take on it anyway. Plus, you'll have two players very disappointed about losing in the SF of a GS, which does not make for the best tennis matches IMO.
