Juan Carlos Ferrero

JCF is having a really solid year, he is ranked 21 as of 14 September. He won a tournament in Casablanca and reached the Wimbledon quarters and the US Open R16 as well (lost to red-hot Del Potro).
I have a lot of respect for his comeback this year and hopefully he has two or three nice years on tour ahead of him.

But will he be able to make another deep run at a Slam next year, maybe the French Open? I think he'll make at least one quarterfinal next year as well. Discuss...

Everytime someone mentions Ferrero, the first thing that comes to mind...is the fh. If he ever gets that back, he will be one to watch at the french next year.

I know what you mean, when he was in his prime my nickname for him was Juan Carlos Forehand because when that thing was on it was ON!

he got to #1 during the down period of tennis when sampras/agassi were on their way out and federer hadn't reached his potential. he's a good player, but doesn't hit a big enough ball to challenge the top guys. he really fell off in 2004 after having such a great 2003. he's never been the same since, but is having a solid year in 2009.

Although he won the French a couple of years back his recent results in slams have been better at Wimbledon and Us Open where he reached the QF and 4th round this year.He had a couple of good results lately but it`s unlikely that he can ever win big matches against top players.

He had a great year. But it ain't get any better. He's not going young. And age starts to leave marks on a pro athlete body. He's a little injury prone.
If he can repeat this results next year i would be surprised.

Good thing is he has won a Grandslam and was ranked #1-- preserving his name in History.

There are many others who may never get there.. the likes of Blake, Lopez, Nalbandian...

He hasn't won a slam in a pretty long time... if he actually wins another or gets to a final, that will be a great story!

most likely FO

With Nalbandian you never know, he still might get a slam.

asked whose fh was the best in the game, Safin in early 2000s said, ferrero's was the best he has ever faced.

But when Fed was asked to build the complete player without mentioning himself...he chose Rafa's fh above others'.

I would put prime mosquito's fh among the best ever though.

The thing that makes his FO triumph so special in hindsight is that it was probably his last chance to win it.

Ferrero has a lot to play for in the indoor season. If he plays well he'll likely get picked to play singles in the DC final.

Hopefully he gets into top 10 next year because he has almost no points to defend until the grass court season.

He doesn't get the respect he deserves on here...whilst we have to hear about Davydenko, Gasquet, Haas etc. None of them are in the same class as JCF.

One of the most genuinly nicest guys on tour, who went through some personal tragedies in his life. I really like JCF. Unfortunately his tennis is old and busted but it was really good in 2002-2004, then a guy named Roger Federer came along...

Does anyone else think JCF is loving Rafa missing DC? They're friends of course but it's been rumoured there was a bit of jealousy from Ferrero since he was replaced by Rafa in DC 2005 and since Rafa has achieved more than he did. Payback is a *****

Yep, Ferrero's FH was godly when it was on. I think this guy is worth more slams than he has currently. Maybe he'll win another one, you never know.

One of those players I always love watching. Yes he hasnt got the power to live with the top players but I really like his game.
I think he has a couple of good years left and I see him getting to a couple more second week GS

Didn't he get badly injured after 2003 and took a long time coming back? I know he beat Nadal at the Italian in 2007 or around there, but it seems the injury did him in. Is that correct?

Ferrero was never the same after 2004. He kept his 2003 form until the claycourt season commenced in 2004, then he totally fell apart. Partially because of injuries but also because of chicken pox which affects adults more harshly than children typically. He made a couple of comebacks with some good results after but never became the same player again, unfortunately.
