Local tennis shop rant.

I called the local shop yesterday to find out if I could buy a set of gut (I do my own racquets). They said they do not sell string sets! You have to get them to do the stringing. What?! This seems dumb to me from their sales standpoint. For example, say I went in there and bought a set, I am also likely to maybe pick up some grip, maybe a sale shirt, socks, who knows! If I am in the store so I might buy more than just string. But now I'm not even bothering going in there - especially when I can get two day shipping online. And guess what - I'm ordering more than the gut.

The other local shop (on 436) will sell sets by the way, they just didnt have what I wanted.

Hey SPINZ, how much MORE are you paying when you shop @ the local stores VERSUS buying online from the other retailers?

I dont go there much but they do advertise price matching. So it should be the same. TW's selection though is hard to beat and with the free shipping, no sales tax, free return shipping, it's awesome.

By the way forgot to mention that we have a Czech stringer. have you ever seen the instruction original video that came with it? HILARIOUS!
Yeah I still have it. It was hilarious, it was shot way back when. It felt like he was teaching to WE_TODD_DID people!!
Which model do you have?

Saturday I saw a new entrant in our area in the world of big box stores. It is down at US 27 and I-4. The first word in the name of the store could be considered sexual...

I played on the lumpy har tru last night at azalea. I love the clay, but it had been 2 months since I had hit on it. Whole different level, but I love how the points slow down. I played 3 hours last night without a break..im dragging today.

The clay forces you to think more about point construction if you are playing a match since it is harder to put the ball away. How is the rehab of those courts going?

They have paved the worst ones and need to repaint them and add the lines. I am hoping they finish this week. My feeling is that they will crack again though pretty soon though. The good news is that I get free clay time out of it.

Ah, so they are just doing the hard courts and not the clay.

Actually I am not sure..I saw q bunch of bags labeled har tru, so it looks like they are doing everything. That would sure be nice. They are just doing it in chunks, which is good since it allows us to keep hitting.

Those bags give me nightmares. I helped build 2 clay courts from scratch during my teen years and carrying those 80 pound bags in 90 degree heat was brutal.

The Gator and I should be starting around 4:45 PM tomorrow for anybody down at OTC. We'll be on court 6.

Hey ryangoring, do you have any relatives in Orlando? I'll explain why I ask that if the answer is yes.

I saw that a little while ago, but I don't think we are related. I will have to research that one. They are not that much Gorings, but you never know. A distance cousin??
If he has any family from Barbados, then most definitely yes

I think he is from the islands. I worked with his wife for a few years.

Hmmm then maybe he may be a relative. Does he still live in the area? And does he still work or play down at OTC?

I wouldn't be able to make it down today but hopefully soon. I know that you are busy with life in general, so I'll try to catch you when I can or get to hit with the other members.
Man I wish that someone lived closer.......Ah well,

Help finding stores...

Need help. My folks are travelling to Orlando next week, and Im looking for good tennis stores near the Lake Mary Fl area. Theyre going to my uncles house, but they are leaving the next day after their arrival for a little road trip, so no one will be home to receive deliveries. Any good, complete tennis stores you guys could suggest? I wanna buy the Bab Pure Storm GT and get the strings deal, but I saw that Golf smith is not offering the string deal :(
Other pick up stores to contact? Thanks Central Fl possee

We should have had our Chapter get together tonight. I was on fire and the Gator was off his game. The wiley Gator saved a match point by hitting a winner on the very back of the baseline. He then proceeded to change his game and stormed back to take the 2nd set. We stopped after that.

Nice to see a guy change up his game when the "A" game is not there. So many people will just keep plowing ahead with a losing game plan.
