March 12th 2010 - Dunlop are delighted to announce their new partnership with Russian tennis ace, Nikolay Davydenko for rackets, clothing and accessories. The partnership will also see Davydenko endorse Dunlop’s junior talent identification programme – D-Squad.

Currently ranked no.6 in the ATP rankings, the Russian has been rising in prominence over the past few years with some strong performances, culminating in his sensational ATP title in London, where he became only the second person to defeat both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the same tournament.

Commenting on his new partnership Davydenko said: “I am really proud to be a brand ambassador for Dunlop and pleased to be working with one of the most iconic brands in Tennis ”.

So will they have him playing with paintjobbed prince oports :)
I smell another sarin like lawsuit

Yeah, I wonder if he really does switch racquets, which dunlop racquet he will play with, as mentioned above, those o ports will be hard to hide for a paintjob.

I'm so happy for him. A top 5 player should have the biggest companies begging him to join and endorse, not some French company that nobody's heard of and gives him shorts that look like a plastic bag tied around the waist..

Surprised he switched. He was calling the Prince racket "magic" and gave it credit for the improvement in his game. Wonder if we'll see him drop like Ljubicic after he switched from Babolat.

Speaking of Prince to Dunlop paintjobs.....I like Pat Rafter's Prince double bridge MP with the Dunlop Aerogel 300 paintjob.

I wonder what stick he'll be using. My bet is they'll have him use the 200 series PJ.

I also wonder what stuff he's been using that has made him switch after what was arguably one of his best seasons.

It might be a custom Dunlop stick that is 28in long and same specs as the Prince but without the Oports. But you never know...

Just as people thought Dunlop were going out of business. At least we will get to see Davy in proper clothes with normal shorts.

That stuff he's been using to make him switch - it's called money.... ;)

IIRC Prince didn't sponsor him, or dropped his sponsorship. Can't blame him for the switch, but have to wornder about his future performance on the tour.

good on him - being one of the most under rated play in the recent times, i hope this will be a good move for him!

Didn't he use to play with one of the Prestige or Radical Models? PT something something? Maybe his Prince racquet was similar to his old Head so the change will not be that drastic. Anyway he is Davydenko, I am sure he could play with a spoon if required.

Seems like a very stupid move to me.. :|

You mean stupid, like getting paid millions to represent a product instead of doing it for free???

There's a reason why you'll sometimes see players with black-out rackets, blacked-out shoes, covered up logos, etc. Every player on the ATP knows that their endorsement is worth something. More power to Davy-D.

Will he be using the Aerogel 500 Pro ?? that would be a good stick for him. but his game would suck bad..

They need a 200 guy now that Blake is gone. I would love to see him using it.

I bet Davydenko's racquets that he will be "testing" (using in tournaments for the whole of 2010), will look really similar (i.e be a paintjob) to his current Prince racquet!

And have large holes in the side of racquet (Dunlop's new 2011 technology):)

No, I mean stupid like abandoning a racket that made you the player you are today.. Prince racket (with O-zone) are impossible to paintjob, so it will definitely be a very big switch for him in terms of how the racket feels and hits (and yes of course I understand that his new racket will be totally costumised to his demands, but it will still be a very big switch for him).

I think Davydenko will be better with the Dunlop. It won't be a giant switch. Dunlop makes player's frames that feel great. I am sure he thought about this all before switching...lol.

Hmmm. Are you sure this is true? If so are you sure it started Mar 12?

Today is Mar 12 and Davydenko is still listed on Prince's website and the TW website as a prince ozone user.

EDIT: I just saw Davydenko posted on the Dunlop site I guess Prince is slow in updating their website.

Yup, with Blake and Berdych gone (probably...Berdych still doesn't have a contract w/ Head and still has half a dozen Dunlop frames available for testing), this would definitely make sense. Davy and the 200 would be a nice match, IMHO.

200 has a similar weight, balance, and flex to the Ozone Tour, but a smaller head size. As much as I'd love to see him using a 200, a customized 300 is more likely, I'd think.

i heard they were phasing out the 4D later this year and bringing some new eco technology in. it says Davy will be testing for 2011...so i guess he'll have some blackened out 100 inch headed weapon of some sort of mould with a Dunlop stencil. great move for Dunlop!!!!

i so happy for davy for having a new clothing and shoe sponsorship
Agree,he really deserved a decent sponsorship, but i hope he can keep what he was playing til' now, changing rackets isn't a good move if it is totally different from what he uses. But we all know that he loves money and even says that he play for money,so you could expect him using anything that pays him what he wants.

Hi I am new to the forum... this thread interested me..

do players not go through a testing stage with a brand before they sign or do they all just hope they wil do a paint job for them?

I think its weird all these new deals and no one is really playing with them! Maybe there afraid of the Novak switch I think they should use them if there getting paid!
