Berych-which Head pj frame did he pay with at Indian Wells

Does anybody know which Head pj did Berych use last night at Indian Wells? As it a Rad or Prestige?
It seems that more pros are using the Rad vs. the Prestige.
When I was considering switching from the Youtek Radical Mp to the Youtek Prestige MP, **** suggested staying with the Rad. It seemed that more of his clients were using the Rad PJ than the Prestige.

I would guess that the one in the picture above is the TGK 231.2 because of the string pattern and that the frame has no CAPS. But is it me or didn't he use one with CAPS a few weeks back in either Memphis or maybe San Jose or something like that? I was thinking he was using the PT57A but now it appears to me that he switched.

I believe it is TGK260.2.

Then Head should provide him with a bag than! Or maybe he has a stipulation in his Dunlop contract that he must use their bag no matter what

Man, a Utek Radical with string pattern 16x19? Sweet! By the way, have you guys tried the Utek Radical MP with lead tape on it? I did some experiments by putting 8g lead tape under grommet of the Utek Rad MP (used 1/4" lead tape) and 12g lead tape on the handle, and with 1 overgrip and 1 Prince dampener, the racquet weighes 12 oz. It becomes 1 of the best racquets i've ever played with. It's way much better than the Utek Prestige MP. Now i see Berdych playing with a modified Utek Radical MP (paint job), i suddenly fell in love again with my Utek Rad MP. Does anyone have the same feelings?

Ten nuts I too have experimented with adding a lot of lead to a stock youtek radical MP and it does hit pretty well. I know dr325i on here did the same thing and he spoke well of it. The stock rad MP is really flexible which is nice and it is super lite so there is plenty of room for customization. I personally still prefer the feel of my PT57A's, but if those weren't around a weighted setup of the rad wouldn't be a bad option. I personally would love to try that Cilic frame that is the 260.3 that has the 18X20 and is more flexible than the regular TGK 260.1, but I just don't want to pay $400 to get one to try...

What do you prefer about the PT57a? And refresh my memory, the pt57a was stiffer?

I know, I'd love a 16x19 Radical with the same stock weight as the 18x20.

Hi Ae1222, you are 1 smart guy. Who would want to pay that much money for 1 racquet? You know for a stock Utek Rad MP, you can use 1/4" lead tape to etch under the grommet starting at 12 o'clock. For more weight you can use 2 layers on each side. I think 12" of 1/4 lead tape will just be enough to hide under the grommet. So let's say 2 of 12" of 1/4" lead tape under the grommet will make the racquet around 11.5 oz strung. Now you can add lead tape to handle to make as many points headlight as you want. From here, no matter what weight you add to handle (0.4 oz, 0.5 oz....up to 1 oz), you will get a super solid feel at the baseline like the plow thru plus nice feel thru swinging. Also of course the serves, overheads, volleys...are so solid. MYself i also add 4" of 1/4" lead tape at 3 and another at 9, and i think this is perfect. I think the 1/4" lead tape appears on the racquet makes it even more beautiful than its paint job.

Cilic is still using TGK231.3.

TGK260 and TGK231 are two different molds and racquets.........

oops sorry, forgot they changed the numbers with the youteks. thanks for the correction!
They did not change codes for YouTek. The different code denotes a different racquet.

Thanks for the update vsbabolat. I got confused, the new youteks do have different numbers, but only the final digit correct? I thought the MG prestige is the TGK 238.1 and the new youtek equivalent is now the 238.4, is that right? Thanks for the info, it is appreciated.

The PT57A isn't very stiff at all, I would have to look up my posts but when I measured one on the RDC machine it was in the mid to high 50's, I think around 56-58. I think the new rad is right around that range, but the stock models just seem to feel a bit hollow to me and the sound is different when it comes off the strings. Just a personal preference, but I just love the A's.

The YT Prestige MP uses the same MOLD as the MG Prestige MP that is why 238 is the same.

On the YT Radical MP, the mold was changed that is why it is 260 a new number.

excellent, thanks for the info! I think I read somewhere that the new mold of the 260 is a 95 instead of a 98, you know if that is true? Sorry to keep asking questions, but when I have access to the master I just had to ask!

i wonder how berdych got ahold of so many 16x19 head radicals since i thought it was only for top 150 players who were under a head contract

I have the 260.2 and it is a 95 . I also forgot to mention that it's 27.5 inches in length.

Got any of the other stats on that frame? RA, stock weight, SW? I figure yours is probably customized but any info would be great!

Thanks!

As far as I know the YT Radical MP is the same head size as the MG Radical MP. They are both labled as 630cm2. If you tkae it match up to a Wilson BLX 6-1 95 they are the same head size.

ae1222,

Sorry, I don't have the RA or SW stats right now. The unstrung stats are-weight 328.3g; balance 31.2cm. I did have a Head Finest Calfskin grip installed in place of the stock Head Hydrocontrol Synthetic grip so I imagine it's a little more HL.

the guy is top 20 in the world. at that point it doesnt matter if he is under contract, im sure he has just as many connections he can use to get those rackets

Could that be accounted for by the way Head measures hoop size; instance, the Mid is a "93" listed by Head but is actually an 89.5 sq incher. Just a thought

PED that could be true, i was just curious if the head sizes were different between the 260.x and the 231.x series of frames. Also if vsbabolat is still on here, did anyone notice Zimonjic's frame during the doubles final? Was it me or did it appear that he didn't have any bumper guards on it?

That is correct Zimonjic has only a grommet strip on his racquets. No bumper guard. The Original Traditional Grommets for the Pro Tour 630 came in three pieces. To install would first put on the bumper guard, next you then put on the two halves of the grommet strip over the bumper guard. So you could if you wanted only have the grommet strip on the racquet. It is like the YT Radical MP Grommets where the grommet strip for the YT Radical MP is white and separate from the bumper guard.

He is out of contract with Dunlop but could still renew it.

He is testing the head racket but has not signed anything with Head yet.

Isn't the Radical Pro a 16x19?? Either way, that's not what he's using. White grommets on the retail Youtek Radical - not the case with Birdy's frame...
