Spaulding was Judge Smails' grandson.
Pancho Gonzales played with a Spalding.
Post t-2000, Jimmy played with some interesting sticks....at least two of which could be lollipops.
Like vsbabolat said, he played the champions tour with the Prince mono [single shaft and round head - total lollipop].
Before that he had an Estusa so brightly colored it looked like it was designed by a candy shop clerk with an airbrushed tee at the beach. All day sucker - lime.
Before that, there was a cool, minty, white Slazenger (Phantom was it? I think it had retsyn), and before that there was the trusty old Pro Staff.

The thing to do with Smails is, if he bothers you, I'll take care of him. What you've got to do to Smails is, you cut the hamstring on the back of his leg, right at the bottom. He'll never play golf again, because he goes back, his weight displacement goes back, and he stays there. All his weight is on his right foot, and he'll be pushing everything off to the right. He'll never come through on anything. He'll quit the game.
One of the best comedy movies of all time!
I remember when the Pro Staff first came out. It was said at the time it had been designed for Connors (though I think Evert adopted it at the same time), and whenever he hit a winner with it he made a big show of holding the racquet up and running his finger around the edge of it in a "Look how huge my new sweetspot is" gesture. (God, how the Wilson boys must have loved him.) But not long after that, I seem to remember him giving up on it and going back to his T-2000.Spaulding was Judge Smails' grandson.

As has been pointed out above, it was a Prince Mono.
Here's Connors with a PS 85 in 1984: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm74-hwVFLM&feature=related

Did he pick up the Pro Staff again for a while before moving on to the Slazenger, or were you hitting only the highlights in his racquet history with this post? (Or am I somehow misremembering entirely?)
P.S. I think I also remember that the Smails kid once picked his nose with a Prince Mono. I remember because I lost $50 betting against it.
