LOL,,,,5.0 player ????? are you kidding ? Murray's 2nd serve has so much spin, the guy would probably miss the return 80% of the time. 2 points down ?? Murray would just over-power 5.0 player. YOu have NO idea how hard these pros hit. Murray's routine what you think is soft groundies are faster than most of the College level guys.
Start teh 5.0 player UP 6-0 and 4-0. then tell Murray he has to play every game 0-40 down. then you may have a match.

Lol the 5.0 could start up 6-0 4-0 and Murray would STILL win in straight sets. He would win so convincingly, the 5.0 would actually lose the set he was awarded.
Imagine a 2.5 playing a 5.0. That's about how competitive it would be.

Yes but if Murray starts every game down 0-40,,,and if the 5.0 guy gets lucky letcords on few shots....you never know.....could have an upset and Andy would get so pissed,,,he will fly back to england..

SEBASTIAN QUINTERO was 750 in the world in 04, is currently 27 years old, and has gone 3 sets with Alejandro Falla, you know, the guy who about knocked Federer out of Wimby in the first round.
He was world ranked up until 2005, 2 years before he started playing 5.0. Played 5.0 for 07, 08, and 09 before getting bumped to 5.5. He also plays 9.0 and 10.0 mixed, so that 546 world ranking in dubs has to help out his lady 4.0 partner.
I'd give the dude a chance with your rules.

Yet and again the observational disconnect between .... "them" (world-class Murray, TOP 10 no less) and "us" :
I've seen handicapped matches involving "closer-in-ranking" match ups than the one presented here in this thread, and it ended up the same:
Final Score imho? : "OW!" ... as in O-O 'ow' (lol)
Further, I think Murray could play an 'alternative style' (for his amusement, e.g. strictly serve-and-volley) and end up in "bagel-land" as well.
One other thing to consider: the pressure that's on the LESSER of the two to get that "one game" .... Murray's experienced it (and conquered it on his way to his current ranking in spades).
A different universe.

it is a fail. Because you have the 5.0 winning the first set 6-0. So then it can't be a straight sets victory for Murray. Thus, leading on your fail.

It's kind of sad to see a great thread like this get limited and less qualified attention than what could have been under the ProPlayer forum. What I find even more outrageous is that people commenting on this topic are not having full credit for their work reflected in their post count. A 5.0 vs. a 7.0? Not just any 7.0, but one of the best players in the world? Even with those handicaps Murray would just destroy him without even trying. If any weekend players think their game has anything in common with the top pros they are totally mistaken.

There are some good 5.0s with huge serves.
If you have a good player going for everything on both first and second serves and attacking second serves on return I think he would be able to win a couple of games considering the handicaps placed on Murray.
I would not be surprised if the score was 6-0 but my guess would be 6-2.

I agree - I wouldn't be surprised if pusher Murray lost 0 and 0 to a solid 5.0 who would ace pusher Murray and just cream those weak second serves for winner returns. Under regular scoring even. Good thread overall, as we have all agreed, just posted in the wrong subforum.

The kind that has a USTA team 0 - 9 for the entire season and their leading man who is top 10 in their section not able to win a match?

Assuming players are rated accurately, a 5.5 will smoke a 5.0, a 6.0 smoke a 5.5 and so on. A 5.0 will never, in a million years, have the game to touch an ATP top 10 player. A 5.0 is never going to force unforced errors from Murray.
Murray could play at 50% and it would still be a bagelling for the 5.0

Huge for 5.0 level and below, but they'd be like returning practice serves for a top 10 pro. Imagining the likes of Murray, Federer, Djokovic returning 5.0 level serves is laughable.

I have to play devil's advocate here and say that the 5.0 could actually win a few games, and definitely points. Just saw J.M. Gambill (spelling) and Kendrick play here in lake tahoe and one of the teaching pros was hitting with them and keeping up. Sure it wasn't an all out match, but if Murray starts at 0-30 and the 5.0 smokes some serves and gets some aces, he could hold his serve at least one or two times.
