Help Organizing Round Robins

Hi, I'm a newbie. Recently got addicted to tennis and am now looking to organize some round robins for fun.

1. What's the optimal number of players to have? Assume that I can get 3-5 courts.

2. How do mixed round robins work if there are more women than men. If I believe I'd get more women than men, should I just stick to making it a Ladies' event?

3. Is there a site you recommend for making draw sheets?

Assume 4 courts. That means you can have 16 players (8 dubs pairs) playing at once. And 2-3 hours is not a lot of time for a round robin. So better make it 3 rather than 2.

Given the above, I would split the 8 pairs into two groups. So group A has pairs 1-4 and group B has pairs 5-8.

Then have a round robin within each group. So each group requires 6 matches (eg 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 1 vs 3, 2 vs 4, 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3), for a total of 12 matches.

You have 4 courts so to make it fit into 3 hours you need each match to be no more than 45 mins. So play one set, except that at 5-5 play a tiebreak. That means you should be able to finish round robin matches in 2:15.

Then for the last 45 mins you have a final round of 4 matches where winner of group A plays winner of group B, 2nd place plays 2nd place, etc.

I think you guys are talking about different things. When most people refer to a round robin its just social tennis where people play with different partners over the 2 hours.

We do $5.00 per man and the top 6 guys draw for partners. Assuming 3 courts. We play each team, 8 games each for a total of 40 games and the top team takes the pot. Actually, the last couple times we took the top two teams and they played a 10 point tiebreaker for the pot.

If you are going for lots of different partners but not too much coordination effort we like doing whistle stop.

Get the number of courts for the number of people. (Say 24) Divide the courts by the time available. (6 courts, 3 hours, 30 minutes per time slot.) Play for 30 minutes. Someone blows the whistle. Winners move up a court. Partners split up. Start playing again.
