Has anyone tried the wilson brand "0"s? I think they stopped production a few years ago though. I liked them better than the sampras ones, but have not tried the lux ones.

Cheers!

Still have had no luck finding someone who hasn't already got rid of them. Is anyone out there who can help me on a few of these dampeners?

These vibra dampeners from Pacific is the closest thing to the old Lux dampeners. You can only get these white ones in europe and the feel, once on the strings are very close to the Lux dampeners. Pros like Lopez and Robredo are using them. :)

Thanks! They look like a polo lol but yeah i like the white dampener. I'll give them a go. Although it would be cool to get some lux ones too :p

Not too impressed with those TBH. Stiff and plastisky rather than 'rubbery'. They're also quite big so they really push the 2 mains apart on a 18x20 / smaller headed frame.

If you want 'O' get the Sampras O damp, or if you want slightly stiffer but not as stiff as that Pacific, then get the Bab custom damp.

Sorry guys, they're all sold now. They went really fast.
..What's so great about these dampeners anyway?

Unique, rare and cool looking because some pros use them. Plus there not bad dampeners.
What did you get per dampener? :)

On the first go around, I sold 10 for $50 twice. I still have about 15 left.

Do you think i could buy some even if it was 2-3. I'm from the uk and will match anyone's price, please please please!

The stiff and plastiky feel are the black ones, that is why I posted only the white ones. They are rubbery and feels exactly or very close to the original Lux dampeners. I have been searching for a long time trying to find an identical or replacement, trust me the Pacific white dampeners that you can only get in TW Europe is the best replacement for the Lux, I would suggest to give em a try.:)

If that's true. That's great news. I'm definatly gonna give these a go because i cannot find anyone who wants to sell their lux dampeners to me..

Anyone?

No one responded to my post earlier, so I am assuming no one is used or has used the Wilson O's before. Unlike the Sampras O's, which felt stiff, cheap, and plasticky, the Wilson O's feel solid, yet pliable.

So, anyone use the Wilson O's around here?

Cheers!

Sorry we didn't reply. Iv only used the wilson smiley dampeners before and liked em alot, but then i grew up lol and not my favourite anymore. I use sampras o dampener at the moment. If you could link me to the wilson o ones that would be good so i could check them out. Thanks.

what about the large black O which acasuso has?

Acasuso's is a Pacific one. Great stuff and not manufactured anymore. EXACTLY the same one Sampras played with 95% of his career. Towards the very end of his career Sampras started using the Tourna one. Totally different dampener. The Pacific one is VERY soft. Tourna's one is HORRIBLE !!!

Sadly, I believe these have not been made in a few years. Luckily they do not fly off my racquet like they used to when I was younger. I usually only have to try to find 1 ever 6 months or so. Anyways, here is my stash. I love these things and will not use anything else!

They are just rubber o rings. I bought a few at the hardware store I go to.

The Unique ones are silicone. But, regarding the rubber grommets you can get from the hardware store, just get whatever size you want. Here's a pic of some in my Prince Synergy DB 26 MPs..... After going through this thread I can't believe that people paid $5 a piece for the purple Luxilon ones.

I see that people that have been posting in this thread are pretty jazzed by them, but how "unique" can they be that you'd be willing to pay $5 for a Luxilon dampener that you couldn't get from a similar item that you can get for 10 times less that happens to be black?

I agree that the Unique Sampras "O"s are plasticky. The black ones in the new red and black pack definitely are. The old black ones were more pliable when they came two in a pack. Some say the newer red ones are more pliable.

So far, after going through this thread, people want the Luxilon ones because they are more substantial than the cable grommets that Rabbit posted in his pics. I counter by saying you get the larger size rubber grommet. Then I read that the Luxilon ones are more pliable than the Unique. I agree..... but so are the rubber grommets that I show in my pic. One poster was selling his because they dampen too much. Again, sounds like the rubber grommet to me.

The only difference would be that the Luxilons are purple and may not be made out of latex. If people happen to have a sensitivity/allergy to latex then that would be a good reason to avoid the rubber grommet, but I still can't fathom spending $5 for a single one.

I know a lot of people prefer the #64 rubber band, but I like to have symmetry in my gear. So, yes I am a picky person at heart and that's why I'm curious about the interest in this particular item......

Is fanboyism another contributing factor?

^^^^ again, I don't see how these are any better (barring color options) than a cable grommet from the hardware store....

I'm not sure how they would be any different, as I have never tried the cable grommets before. All I can say is that once you have a favorite, you stick with that favorite. Why do you think I bought five packages of these Wilson Os before they were not available anymore.

To answer the previous question, I do not think they are available anywhere. I last bought these like at least four years ago and u have never seen them since, or heck, anyone even mention them at all.

Cheers!

Well do they feel perfectly the same? Tennis players are creatures of habit, and when you play with something for a long time anything else feels different. And especially with me if anything feels different from my normal set up i kinda freak

That's what I wanna know.

I understand what you're saying. But, in the case of the Luxilon and Wilson dampeners shown in this thread being discontinued or not readily available maybe a lower-cost alternative that's at almost every hardware store is worth trying out.

For the $5 people are willing to spend on one discontinued item or 3 euro for the Pacific ones, you can get a handful of rubber cable grommets.

Yeah they do. Are all the pacific ones soft not plasticy. Or is it just the white one that's good?

The black ones are stiff and not as good as the white ones. I have not tried the orange so I can't comment on that one. The white ones are worth it and have never bothered to look for any Luxilon dampener as soon as I found out about these white Pacific dampeners. :)

I guess I'm talking to a wall. *shrug*

i hear ya VGP

out of these that i have, i cannot really feel a difference. left to right is a big cable grommet, a yellow unique brand before they did the sampras ones, the pete dampeners, smaller cable grommets, and a few lux's

CIMG3108-1.jpg

these were my favorite and i thought worth the money at the time. the irony is, i no longer use vibration dampeners.

To be honest, there is zero difference in feel between the Luxilon O-Ring and the cable grommets available at Home Depot for $2/pack of 5 and scotch tape wrapped around the middle two mains. The Scotch tape trick was the 2nd dampener I'd ever seen. My cousin did this 30 years ago with his Pro Kennex Golden Ace when he played high school tennis. It was a big WTF for me at the time. The first dampener was of course on a.......Fischer Stan Smith Superform....Fischer invented the dampener....

Anyway back to OP, if someone is absolutely convinced that the Luxilon O-ring's configuration can't be beat, the Babolat O-Ring is closest to it that I've found. That would be this one

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Babolat_Custom_Damp_YellowBlack/descpageBAB-BCDYB.html

or this one

http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Babolat_Custom_Damp_RedBlue/descpageBAB-BCDRB.html

they can also be configured as solid center like some of the Lux ones I've seen in photos. And, best of all, they're substantially cheaper although not as mcuh as should be warranted.

All that said, if someone just cannot live without a Lux O-Ring, I've got 5 I'll sell for $20/each (plus postage if you're outside the lower 48).

^^^^ yup.

I'm the obsessive kind of person too and it floors me that people are willing to spend that much for a vibration dampener.

I guess I've liked the rubber o-ring so long that I'm familiar with how they work in my stringbeds. Knowing that they're always available doesn't hurt either. Especially at the price of $2 for 5. People that prefer the #64 rubber band I'm sure feel the same.

I just find it insane that there are posters frothing at the mouth for the Luxilon ones with offers now at $20 each plus postage!
