Nine mile, wow!!!!!
Sorry Fee, the docs (family and OB) are male.

No surprise at all. Shameful. I am grateful that I have a choice in medical providers, and I have ALWAYS chosen women. They have the same parts as me, they've had similar experiences as me. I feel bad for women who have never been examined by a female doctor.

Awesome work, Nine Mile. My weight loss has been a complete failure so far this year, not one pound lost. I fear my frozen shoulder is returning so I need to focus on that for a while, find a way to incorporate those stretches into my routine. Sheesh, what next...

There is a wonderful discrepancy between American and Italian (and UK)doctors here: according to the first I am OK, while the second keep telling me not to go over 105......So, I am 9-10 over my friend....
Remember, I am only 5.4.....

I think you need to lose 30 lbs. myself.......and get a little taller.

Down from 283 to 278 in the last month. It's pretty hard to burn calories when you are waiting on knee surgery and so can't do much lower body stuff but at least I'm heading in the right direction.

I had a cheat day that morphed into a cheat week, and here I am, almost back to where I started. I am very disappointed in myself, and considered not posting.

And check your math...I am up 11 pounds.

^^ Be interesting to see how quickly it drops off again. You sound like one of those guys whose weight can swing quite a lot over a short period and even just throughout the day.

I had a cheat day .

You're a bad influence on me, Ninemile! Today I ate a big breakfast followed by a JUMBO sugared coffee roll, and for dinner and I had 3 and half slices of Sicilian pizza followed by two ice cream sundaes. (Count 'em folks -- TWO!)

Nine, don't feel bad at all. Back in Septemeber I was down to 214 which was the lowest I had been since before I was diagnosed with Diabetes (2007). Then by December I was back up to 237. I felt terrible.

I've kind of stalled because I wasn't able to get in as much gym/tennis time over the last weeks I'm sitting right around 222. To meet my goal I have to lose 3-4 lbs per week for the next 12 weeks before my baby is born.

Don't worry dude. You can do it.

There ya go -- lost 4 lbs since last week already. Keep up the good work. (Meanwhile, I'm beating myself up for eating too much at 5 Guys last night -- my first time there -- followed by a donut and Hagan Daz).

Yeah, 4 pounds in 2 months...the fat is just melting off of me!

Don't get caught up in the numbers. The 10 you lost initially and the 10 you put back on were both just water weight (as you burned through and then replenished glycogen reserves in your muscles and liver). No one in the world either loses or gains either fat or muscles that quickly. Just keep your diet at a deficit and you will burn the fat at a slow rate.

I'm down 11 so far since 1/1. Just 7 or 8 lbs to go to get to my playing weight and 2 months to do it (the diet has to go from cut to maintenance to keep my energy level up after the season starts in April).

You are probably right. Before the week of my mad weight gain, I had tried cycling on and off some very low carb days for 3 weeks. Lost weight, but had little energy for working out, and my performance suffered.

Don't know if I will try that again...but getting to eat Buffalo chicken wings while losing weight was awesome.

I brought up this idea after reading some of the posts in the Gastric Bypass thread. Before I post my fitness/weight loss goals for all the world to see, I would like to see who else is interested in posting theirs. Perhaps we can help each other out as the year progresses in this thread. Anyone else? Bueller?

I want to reduce 20-35 pounds before May (from S to XS size). My dream is to look great to play doubles on a red clay count with a new skirt outfit:)

I started this year off at 145-147 lbs. I'm 5 1/2 ft tall by the way, the goal was to get in the 140-142 lb range. That would be the lightest i've been since 1993 or so.

I really started this endeavor at the end of 2002, weighing 195 lbs and very into powerlifting. It was a cardio workout just walking out to my car.

I started with the zone diet and no exercise because of a shoulder injury and lack of cardio equip. Got down to 175 within 4-6 months and was in the low 160's by the end of the first year. I used the zone diet successfully down to about 155 lbs and stayed there for awhile on this diet. The improvements in my athletic performance were astounding, obviously!

This motivated me to do more but no more was coming off on this plan. I added some weight training somewhere along the way but it didnt help lose anymore. Its been so long some of this is a bit fuzzy. Eventually i decided to modify the diet a bit. I dropped the carbs to 100 Gs/day and increased my fat intake by no specific amount but just stopped counting daily fat grams. This got me thru that plateau and got me down to about 150 during the winter season. At this point I would fluctuate between 145 in the summer and 150 in the winter.

The last couple years I've added some cardio to try to maintain the summer condition year round. This worked until last summer for some reason i didnt stick with the plan as much and i was back up to 150 by the end of summer. I got back down to the 145-147 range by x-mas time however getting back on the plan.

Sorry for the long history...back to now...so for this year i am doing a slight zig zag thing that some of you were talking about - I vary my carb intake daily, anywhere from 60-100 Gs, and basically eat all the protein and fat i want, which actually self-regulates pretty well with the lower carb intake, I don't end up overeating this stuff.

The 2nd part of the 2011 equation is that i stepped up the cardio, doing more sessions but at lower intensity. I'll run 3 miles maybe 3 days a week, do 1 day of HIIT, then usually 2 days of tennis, but no weight training.

I havent weighed myself all year, until just a couple weeks ago that is. I was 140 when i stepped on the scale at the tennis club and that was at the end of the day when i'm usually a couple lbs heavier.

Now the goal is to maintain that. I dont want to slip up like last summer. Its great to see the success stories on here. It definitely helps motivate.

5'11", 147 lbs. Now fat and complacent thru this rainy winter. Haven't weighed 140 since 1985, when I was 35 years old.

188 in the winter of '90. Was into speedtrials windsurfing, and all my buds were over 230lbs. a few midgets weighing in around 210. My house mate, Fat Dave, weighed 275 and was faster than FredHaywood at the '86 Ponds speed trials by 4 mph. Fatter is faster in windsurfing.

Its funny because your calling yourself fat at 150 lbs. How fat were you at 190?

Hey, fat is fat, so either 150 or 190, I am/was out of shape, couldn't do 20 pullups, couldn't run 6 miles in 40 minutes, couldn't paddle well, couldn't play fullcourt basketball with the high schoolers, couldn't fetch alley to alley in tennis.
But at least my first try, no warmup standing long jump is now over 6'6".

Hello, guys. Kudos to you all, even if you have a slight set-back.
Last Sunday I succeded in jolting my metabolism, by drinking 3 cups of coffee (I drink too many), 1 cup of milk, 1 banana and 1 apple. Was hard but the day after I felt much better and 2lbs. lighter. The issue is I ruined everything with M&M last night (I love the pretty pastel colors they made for Easter). Tried to consol me saying they were "almonds"M&M ....
OK let's do something good this week-end.
Hope you play tennis, and play hard!!!!

Holy grail, I cannot go over 4'with that jump. I gave up, I do not think it is necessary to a tennis player.........;)

I was 250lbs. in November. I was 230lbs. at the beginning of January. 227lbs. when this thread started. My goal is still 195-200lbs.

I'm going to try to hit 210lbs. by March 11, which is the first day I will be at the Indian Wells / BNP Paribas tournament.

I was at 210.5 lbs. this morning, so I should be able to make 210 lbs. by next week.

I think I'm ~15% bodyfat now. I was 27% in November.

10-15 lbs. more to go. Hope to do it by May / early June.

That should put me in a true 10% bodyfat range.

im looking to loose some body fat and also bulk up.

im 6'2" and 203lbs.

I'm not fat, you can see the top half of my abs (from belly button up) but not in definition, just a flat plate as it were. But i can be more toned and that is what im aiming for.

Im not too concerned about weight because over the last year i have naturally bulked up (im 23 in 3 months).

But now due to age im starting to put on a bit of fat in the chest/belly area and i've hit the wall.

I've set myself 12 weeks and then il review how its going then.

I've sorted out a healthy eating plan, cardio routine and weights routine to go alongside my job as a tennis coach.

I'm going to take some pictures on a weekly basis to track my progress and keep myself motivated.

I'm going to keep a diary to highlight all the key moments in the programme and also what i find hard, easy etc.

I can tell you now just by eating healthier and less i'l naturally loose weight - i like my food and i like lots of it!!

I'm going to turn it into a blog so hopefully it will insipre people to look at the difference (hopefully) that i can achieve in 8-12 short weeks and they can do the same!

Eliza. TonLars is one of the best players on this forum, a solid 5.5-6 level player, and he mentioned he can do the standing long jump 9'3". That means his legs are explosive, he can cover court quickly, and he's in athletic superior shape.
I'm a failing falling 4.0 player, and today maybe less with a discombobulated service motion, can only jump over 6', so can't possibly cover alley to alley in singles.

What to reply? I refuse to consider that my lack of over 4 means I cannot cover alley to alley in singles, eheheheh. But I reserve this until next time I play singles.....

When I could standing long jump right around 9', I could not cover alley to alley against many players.
I guess it depends on the opposition.

Thanks LeeD. I actually got about 9'7". I thought that was pretty darn good but you got over 10 feet which is incredible! How high could you jump vertically? Ive been measured around the 33-35" area. I think any explosive leg exercise like that will correlate with lower body strength and quick movement. Knowing how to move on a tennis court takes time however.

Will have to check this out, I used to hold some kind of standing long jump record when i was a kid, will have a go later and see how far my 40yr old knees can take me :)

By the way 6ft4 and 175lbs. Ive been trying to put weight on for 25yrs but nothing seems to work!

Ton... haven't measured standing vert since junior high. Had readings in the low 40's, as at 4'9" or so, could clamp the 10' rim with both hands...yes barely. Funny thing. Playing varsity for high school, at 5'7", could barely tip one hand on the rim.
Reality check....now 62, the bottom of the net is about 8" from my fingertips when I jump. I reach 7'4" flatfooted.
As I got taller, I lost vertical leap at a geometric rate.
