Nadal and Federer racket swop - who wins!?

So I was thinking... if Nadal and Fed were to swop frames and play a 5 setter, who do you think would come out on top and why?

Federer, no question. Nadal's game is heavily dependent on the particular type of racquet that he prefers. Federer uses a classic style frame: extremely heavy, small head size, slight HL balance. Nadal's frame is light in comparison, large head size and has an extreme balance. Federer would be able to hit his shots pretty well still with Nadal's frame, but I don't think that Rafa would adapt his strokes to Federer's type of frame.

Federer without question.

In terms of what would happen in the rankings, nadal would almost certainly fall out the top 100. In contrast, federer would still be top 10

Fed seems to be able to generate a lot of spin at times with his stick, but yeah the weight difference would hit Nadal harder.

What if they changed shoes? or what if they changed underwear?, would Fed have to pick his butt then?. Another idiotic thread!

I agree that this is a pointless thread.
The player has to use the racket and strings that give him the most advantage. There should be no comparison between frames.

I can't believe how people here overestimate the influence of the racket...

It ain't the arrow, It's the indian.

basically all of the top rackets are equally good. they are all high tech stuff. At that level it's just about what racket you feel the best with. sampras won with a 10 year old stick back then.

And if a player is changing the brand he is doing that for money, not to get a better stick.

I don't know if the OP was serious but I think it'd be interesting to see each other pretending to be each other in an exhibition match

Federer plays with a much lighter SW racquet than Nadal, it would be a lot easier for Nadal to adapt. It's about 335 vs 350. Both guys hit the sweetspot, so frame size isn't as much of an issue.

I actually think both guys would be fairly out of sorts. I love how these threads turn into fanboy drivel that, once again, tries to prop their guy up. It's about as silly a hypothetical as you can find.

I think they would both have some issues on either end. Although Nadals stick is larger federers stroke motion would be out of sorts with the feel of th APG. Would be funny seeing nadal whipping feds stick around which I'd imagine would feel awkward.

you sir/ma'am are a genius. i would love to see that. as long as they use each others real gear. too bad they arent both wilson; since they are major competitors i doubt wilson/bab would agree.

Give 'em five minutes to get used to the racquets and I don't think the score would be much different that usual.

Seriously.

I know a futures player who broke all of his strings on his APDC, so someone lent him a prestige. He didn't really play differently.
If a random futures player can do it, Fedal can.

.

I disagree. Nadal will not be able to swing quite the same way with the heavier and much different racquet. The score would definitley not be the same as usual. Fed will have the upper hand

I am surprised Breakpoint hasn't come in and thumped all over Nadal yet. Anyway, you'd be surpised to find out that Nadal's racquet isn't the stock APDC some Fed fanboys make it out to be. It has a high SW, extremely polarized balance and is strung with EXTREMELY stiff poly strings to start with. Those who go on about the FED WINS HANDS DOWN BECAUSE HE PLAYS A MORE CLASSIC STYLE drivel should think twice...Nadal's racquet takes as much getting used to as Fed's racquet, and people play as if Fed is some demi god who can play all styles in tennis and all Nadal can do is topspin. Come on, if the technology is out there why isn't more people hitting more extreme topspin than Nadal? Obviously there is something more to Nadal's topspin than techonology. Not to mention Fed strings at a quite low tension amongst the pros and he may have problems adapting to the racquet. Checkout the comparison here:

Those who think that headsize is everything in tennis obviously don't play tennis, or haven't played it to a high enough level to realize that it is a preference, not an indication of superiority, smaller does not mean better.

Give Sampras Agassi's OS and Agassi Sampras's Mid. Sampras would so OWN Agassi! Yeah right.

^^ Basically everything you said.

Just because you have a guy playing a 90 vs a guy playing a 100 doesn't mean that the 90 guy will beat the 100 guy should they swap equipment. Claycourters in ye olde era (70's and 80's) didn't use big headed racquets yet they still got a lot of spin on the shots. Same goes for the 90's. Like Clay Lover said, it's a matter of preference. For instance, you can choose to be a murderer but most people don't.

It is a hypothetical question. It's interesting to see if people think one or the other would adapt (if at all) during a match. Then we can truly find out who is the greatest of modern times... ;)

Their frames have a much greater relationship to their style of play and success on court than either their shoes or clothes! For example, when I play with the aero frame I find myself really hitting over the back of the ball, much more than when using a more traditional racket. I wonder if Fed could handle Nadals frame and vice- versa. Would Nadal be as dominant if tennis racket technology was limited by law, to a set racket design which nullified excessive spin generation? You could say the same for strings.

Sure sure, but the big question is.. would Fed be able to move very well in Rafas underwear, I think that nasty itch would make him cry in the end. Fed is not used to pick his butt every 10 seconds, I think he would get massive blisters on those soft baby fingers of his. You see racquets is not important compared to underwear!

Haha that would be the coolest thing ever! Fed would win because Nadal's game is really based off his racket: big headsize, thick beam, open string pattern...Fed would be using what we think off as closer to a "normal racquet".

You think Fed could control the hollow baboplast with no feel?, I bet that the stress from wearing Rafas underwear would make him break down and cry in the first set!. Image Roger taking medical timeout due to "fire in the hole"..

maybe now nadal will stop hitting moonballs and flatten out his shots more.

i actually really want to see this in an exhibition or some charity event.
