I'm impressed with this kid, i see a future champ in him, he seems to string his racquets in the high 40's ... isn't that a bit too low?

Considering how he's been playing, maybe the point is that we've all been string a bit too high???

I was watching the match yesterday, Raonic vs Fish. During the 2nd Set, Milos asked his 3 racquets to be strung at 45lbs/47lbs main/cross .

He uses Lux M2. Not sure which gauge.

low tensions with full poly is really comfortable and still quite crisp.... I string full poly, starting at 40 and find plenty of control.

The thing with low tensions is, the difference between 35 and 45lbs. is really not that noticeable and does not change many of the playing characteristics... while with high tensions the difference between 55 and 65 are two different worlds.

No because not all of us are hitting with freshly strung racquets every practice and match.

Kinda makes a difference.

Not that much difference. A lot of people on here string with full poly at 60-65 because they like to whack the crap out of the ball and they don't use proper spin and technique so they use high tension as a crutch to keep the ball in, or they want to feel macho. Nearly all of the pros who are known at all for spin string at lower tensions or have a less stiff stringbed (16x19, or gut hybrid on a larger head) .

And poly by the time it loses tension to 45 from 65 pounds was dead long before it reached that point anyhow.

TW University did a great study going to 35, and 25 pounds and with poly 35 was just right.

35-40 full poly, 42-47 for hybrid. That's about the sweet spot for a lot of pros. I find it perfect myself

That is in desert air, 3-4 second set, due to his normal 42/44 going long on him. 4 knots, two piece. He also switched to a blx blade 98 from the k blade stock in Memphis/san jose.

Delpo is at 62lbs. Joker at 60.5lbs. Gulbis at 60.5lbs. Soderling at 55-60lbs. Tsonga: 61lbs. Murray: 60lbs. Berdych: 62lbs.

wow, still at the tension game huh... 35lbs with synthetic is playable for a few hours, but after that it's mush. playing with freshly strung string is stiffer then when it's had a few hours of play.

and yes, some string higher, some string lower. there was a website that had almost all the pros' tension and strings and it was all over the place. it's really just preference.

Didn't Andy drop to 57 or something??
Or is he still at 60??
And wow I thought Djokovic was at 55-56 or something

Nate Ferguson said 48lbs

that was back in the K90 days. After he switched to BLX, his tension has been in mid-low 50s. (just another evidence that he had actually switched) make sense though as K90 felt quite a bit stiffer especially around the hoop compared to BLX90.

Lol... OBVIOUS !!!

It depends also of the size and stiffness of the frame. MIDsizes are more eager to be stringed low. It s more unusual on a 98 like Raonic Blade. but look at ferrer @ 45lbs on a 100sqin !

@ 2Hare : I read that Fed is still using his modified PST90... He doesnt switch at every commercial release wilson does !

Haven't you people heard of paint jobs? He was using 45, 47 pounds last night. Also his low tension is because he plays an 18 X 20 which is less powerful than an a 16 X 19.Federer uses low tension because he plays a 90 sq inch frame. Most of the pros are in the 50's with 98, 100 inch frames. They use these racquets for an hour tops and a rec player plays with it for a week or two maybe longer.

Yea I've watched that, I remember seeing K factor rackets in the vid and assume the interview was done a while ago. He was in the mid 50 last year, maybe he dropped it down again this year.

Watching the Raonic/Harrison match right now. Just heard him tell the ball boy that he wants the racquets strung at 45lbs.

With less spin the ball travels out easier so many string higher to keep the ball in. Sampras is a good example vs Federer/nadal as extremes.

Oh haha thanks, I have been stringing lower because I like the feel better, but I tend to hit flatter and lose a lot of control sometimes. that might explain a bit.

Watching Raonic play against Gulbis in Monte Carlo right now. Raonic has just asked to have a racquet strung at 40/42. I guess he has dropped the tension even more for the clay.

makes sense. It's only a few lbs off from his hard court tension. I bet Federer is close to that as well

i used to play with ALU strung @ 60/62... felt like my arm was going to come off after a few hours of hitting, hated poly strings from that day, this was a few years ago, now tired of breaking multifilaments every week so getting back slowly to hybrids with poly mains strung in mid-50's might even come down more, so far no arm pain in the last few days.

Anyone concerned with modern stringing habits should read this post over and over. It is simple to read and understand. It is the clearest, most spot on explanation. Nice post.

In the match with Gulbis, he said '40/42' when asking someone to get his racquet restrung during a changeover.
