Pro Kennex Dominator and a Cool Case

A friend of mine, who knows I collect tennis stuff, got this in a box lot, and decided to just give it to me tonight after I told him that I was interested in buying it. The racquet is a PK Graphite Dominator, new, flawless, unstrung. has anyone played with this racquet? I'm thinking of giving it a try. I love the case. Very 60s-70s.

Yeah, I think the case pre-dates the racket by a decade or so ;) . My first tennis shop boss had one in '72. The Dominator series went up against the Director series from Head and to a lesser degree the R-7 and R-10 from Yonex. The Graphite Dom was essentially a Black Ace with an elongated face, although the throat mod made it a little stiffer, IIRC.

I couldn't quite make it out, but I think your PSG is 36'...something to consider if you are actually going to string with it. 40' coils of string weren't common until the mid-80s; even then, Gosen was the first with a 40' coil while many others lagged behind.

In case you need the data for the PK Graphite Dominator:
Tension Range 52-62 #
Pattern 16x19
Skip Mains 7T 7H 9T 9H
Tie Off Main 6T
1st X 7T
Last X 7H
Tie off X 6H
33 feet required. One piece since it is top down anyway.

Looks like you'll be carrying around a weapon of mass destruction to the courts.

That's funny. I might have trouble with it at the airport. I wish that it was sized so that it would fit a modern racquet. It would be great to show up at a USTA match with this and one of those self-contained 60s "martini kits". I can just imagine their eyes bulging after warmup when I prepared a pre-match aperatif.

Thanks for the info. Luckily for me, Steve Huff is my stringer, so if I decide to use it, there is no chance of me letting the adolescents down at Dick's screw it up.

Thanks for the string info. I didn't realize the standard had changed, but it makes sense given the increase in head size.

I think that it is likely I will enjoy how this racquet plays. I am looking forward to hitting it.

I have two similar cases to yours, one blue and one orange, though the composition looks a little different. I find the best fit for these cases is an aluminium racquet and I happen to have one that is the exact same orange as the case - very cool!

That's a very nice racket, Virgina.

I have a few racquets that I can try in it. I would like to display it, but I can't decide which way. The interior would be great with a 60s racquet and two ball cans from that era, but the exterior molded shapes are the coolest thing about the case.

I just checked my blue case and it contains a brand new Penn aluminium and an unopened can of Penn "Bain de Soleil" balls.

Rather than space for two cans of balls, my two have one for balls and one for things like your wallet and keys.
