Poly/Synthetic Gut hybrid question

My son is hot to trot to try Prince BeastXP strings.

I really don't want him to go full poly, so I bought a pack of BeastXP 17 and Babolat N.vy 16 to hybrid with.

Should we string the mains (Beast) the same tension as the crosses?

(If it were up to me, he'd be using Wilson Sensation and be happy, but man oh man do those things move around in EXO3 racquets.)

Any help is appreciated.

Tons of threads around on hybrid tension, but I'll let someone who knows more about the cross answer for exact tension recommendation. What I can say is: try to get him using something besides Beast. I feel it is quite overpriced and overrated.

Kids!

I had already bought Hurricane Feel, but he doesn't want blue strings.

Just lie to them about the string. :p If he's not able to pick a string for the real reasons, he's probably not able to benefit from poly.

I just want something that doesn't move. I swear in his racquet (Price EXO3 Hybrid 100), the crosses move more than the mains. And with Sensation, the mains move a ton.

Oh, Okay. Hmm...I don't have any experience with that racquet. Hopefully someone else will chime in for you soon!

About how good is your son? Does he have plenty of racket head speed and hit the ball cleanly and consistently? If he doesn't do either of those, I'd stay far away from poly.

You could get him the string thing. That might work.

Might be easier on your son's arm to put the poly in the cross. This would be a more gradual transition from a full bed of Sensation.

Well, you have the two packs now, so might as well go for it. If you string regularly with Syn Gut at say 58, Go to 52 mains with the Beast. Cross the N.vy at 56. If anything, go lower, not higher, but keep the 4lb delta.

Tell the chucklehead to go mow some lawns and buy whatever strings he wants with his own dough... or shut his cakehole and appreciate what you've given him.

Couldn't resist - I've got a seven year old nephew and my sister is usually way too, um, "patient" with him. Nothing gets under my skin as badly as ding-dongs, young or old, with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. That's just me...

I've seen even high school killers with highly developed games and "arm-friendly" racquets blow up their elbows with the polys. I don't think you're out of line as far as being leery of the stuff and wanting your little gunner to use an ounce of prevention. Your wisdom has been hard earned, right?

As far as hybrid setups are concerned, if you put poly in the mains I suggest 2-3 pounds higher synthetic gut crosses. When I put multis in the crosses I do pre-stretch sometimes, mainly because I want to narrow the "resiliency window" and create a more long-lasting, consistent stringbed.

Some people go higher than 3 pounds difference with mains in the crosses but I think you are beginning to put unnecessary strain on your frame.

I definitely recommend a higher gauge for the softer crosses to prevent string movement, but do stay away from more than 1.5kg tension differences (with mains).

Now, starting with Sensation mains is a different story.
