Pete Fischer is a coach of Pete Sampras

My kid started to play tennis with Pete Fischer three months ago. There is a huge difference with what he had before. I think that old school coaches like Fischer and Landsdorp are much much better that all these so called "tennis academies".

What difference?

Ok, you do know about his past right ? I hate to say it, but no matter how good a coach is, I wouldn't send my kid to someone who did time.

We are talking about tennis coaching skills. This coach developed Sampras and he knows about tennis and how to produce winners much more than many “right” coaches. My kid used to play in two academies and I can compare. So called “academies” are just businesses that make a lot of money from crazy tennis parents. Private coaches produce 99% of champions.

Can you name any other champions that he produced other than Pete? Which academies are you comparing against? And when you were sending your kid to these "so called tennis academies" were you one of the "crazy tennis parents" that you reference?

I wouldn't be comfortable with him coaching my kid, even if it were free.

I care only about coaching skills. I see on the court players from TOP 30 from Division 1, young pros from WTA and teens from TOP 30 of So California.

My kid used to play tennis at Weil and Gorin TA. If a player is not "star" in an "academy", she just a source of money for a business. Yes, I was a crazy tennis parent too :)

In Florida you can find better situation with TA, but not in CA.

I have to agree with everybody else, there is no way I would have him around any juniors. I can't believe that he would even be allowed to.

There are plenty of great coaches in So Cal that you could work with like Scott Christie, Eliot Teltscher and Chuck Brymer just to name a few.

I feel the same way about a man convicted of one of the most heinous crimes conceivable.

Now, if after a heart-to-heart with the man, it were clear that there'd be absolutely no way he'd engage in anything nefarious, I would hope to have compassion for him. But I do not know that I would...in the moment.

As I write this, I can imagine what a wreck Fischer must be with the guilt and the shame...and having to re-hash that stuff with potential clients. What a horrible thing he did...and he's not only got to deal with that privately, but in a professional and personal sense every day of the rest of his life. I imagine he's a lonely, broken man.

But he knows his tennis!
If my family were somehow involved with him in the tennis sense, I would let him show my kid the ways of a champion.

Not sure about any overnight trips, though.

Gavna mentioned Lansdorp. What a kook! But in a gruff, lovable uncle, sort of way. Smart guy. Lots of conviction. When that conviction comes alive in his students, watch out.

It’s from Pete Sampras website.

I see how his players improve their tennis skills and rankings in short time. It is not very popular to say that your kid's coach is Fischer. That's why many parents are silent. I think, Sharapova will never say that she worked on her serve with Fischer.

Well said.....my daughter was lucky a few years ago to get with Lansdorp for a summer, the only reason that happend was she was with Lee Merry and he set up some xtra work with Lansdorp for us.....Lee was my old coach in college so it was a gas to see her get her but kicked by Lansdorp. Yea and he was/is an odd one in a great way.

Robert was one of my old coaches .. he truly is a great coach and his eyes and feeding the ball are the best..too bad he can't be more involved in the USTA Jr.development program...those USTA brass probably would feel too threaten by his personality... he is really a soft hearted person but he won't show that side of him... he's a great actor in front of students and some parents..

gavna:if you're talking about Lee Merry ,you are really so lucky to have worked with one of the best .. plus Robert..

I agree a private coach is the way to go, but I would stay far far away from Pete Fisher.

I'm sorry, that's crazy.

You would hire and pay a child rapist in order that your child got good tennis coaching?

No.

Sorry.
That post is pretty much all over the place. It went from scorn to rationality, to compassion (not exactly rational, but the effort is there), to realizing that there could be value in a broken person, to joking about not allowing alone time, to my impression of Lansdorp.

But all of those things I wrote are a part of how I feel.
Anyway, not an issue for me.

I'd be more interested in what else he produces........... I don't mean to be ugly here, but you need to get a grip on "Reality". You, are indeed, a crazy tennis parent. No one in their right mind, would consider this type of situation for a child. The guy can be redeemed, but he should "ONLY: work with adults, not children, I don't care how spectacular he is.

I strongly suggest that you speak to a therapist who deals in this type of stuff. As a person who deals in Christian Counseling, I can tell you, you are not looking at this entire situation in a proper manner. Parenting comes first, not tennis.......

You guys all need to relax its ok for teenagers and kids above 5 yrs old to around the person you speak of they have nothing to worry about ,, now use your brains and figure out how sick the riddle is I just posed and you know who would be in danger, my question is why did any of the dads who knew this take it to the authorities ?

Anyways I do believe in forgiveness and I know people can change but those same people who change will want to prove themselves and show all they have, not cause controversy.

Wow, I thought as Christians we are not to cast stones, and forgive those that trespass against us.

Doe Fischer give out free Vaseline with the price of a lesson? :)

I have a feeling the OP is just trying to evoke outrage and that he is pulling our legs.

I wouldn't leave a kid alone with Pete Fischer. I am surprised the terms of his probation don't forbid him from contact with kids. He is a convicted pedophile after all. Those guys generally don't get better and often re-offend.

Sampas is lucky he wasn't Fischer's type.

Fischer supposedly isn't all that much of a coach but he was willing to drive Pete around when he was a kid and take him to good coaches; a service coach for one.

As far as bang for the buck, I would think a very good personal coach is preferable to an academy but I suppose it would depend on the coach and the academy.

Look, no one is casting stones, but general common sense, mandates avoiding putting young children and teens in this type of situation. Bottom line, is it worth the risk?

Also, with all the news about athletic scenario molestations, I would think people would remember what is truly important here. The man has a right to a life, but it should not involve working with kids... Who would want to have that type of responsibility of that weighing on their conscience. Putting coaching above safety? I am shocked that this is even up for discussion........

Please don't quote what you don't understand or know, also your taking a couple of phrases out of "context" unless your putting them out there to know their meaning.

Remember the great teacher Jesus spoke of disrespectful children being put to death so what do you think He thought about child molesters?

N1C,

With all respect, you're way off topic now. If you're interested in hearing other opinions or interpretations on the teachings of Jesus, I suggest you find another forum.

Bad jokes all throughout your post, but the fact is a lot of top kids do go to him to improve their serves (locally and out of state). I doubt parents in their right mind would leave their kids alone with him.

I don't know if this is a joke.

But, if the parents are sending their kids to him, then tennis in this country is in serious trouble.

I don't believe in forgiveness with horrific crimes.

A doctor from Rolling Hills who once coached tennis star Pete Sampras faces 16 charges of molesting boys he met through his medical practice, authorities confirmed Thursday.

The allegations against Dr. Peter Fischer, a pediatric endocrinologist, involve four boys who were 13 to 15 years old at the time, said Deputy District Attorney Eloise Phillips.

In one case, filed in February, Fischer is charged with three counts of committing a lewd act on a child, and three counts of penetration by a foreign object.

In a case filed June 23, Fischer is charged with 10 felonies in connection with three other alleged victims ages 13 to 15, the prosecutor said.

Not sure what to think of the poster who started this thread.

Very few posts history, of course maybe he/she has a real life.

But, his first post on Talk Tennis started with whose name in it... Pete Fischer.

Read again my first posts. Or you can see only one name?
Frankly, I just wanted to hear opinions from experienced players/parents about coaching skills of PF. Unfortunately I didn't. Most posts have nothing with tennis. My girl took a couple of lessons from Landsdorp but it is too expensive for my budget. I'm sorry to started this thread.

Don't tell me you can't find any good coaches... unless you're looking only around the area those two guys are in.

Woodbridge Tennis Club in Irvine. They have a lot of strong players. Their seven players in TOP 100 of America.
Pete Fischer, Robert Vant Hoff, Robert Landsdorp.

The 2nd post is your first post.

------------------------------------------------

I am glad you started this thread.

The majority of people in juniors on Talk Tennis want to learn, share information, and help others.

I have learned a lot on this board.

First, to those who have a short memory of history,
by starting this thread, you helped to provide valuable knowledge about a coach's history.

Second, many times, junior parents are on the wrong track.
For those who will listen, some of the other parents will help point the right way.

There is a reason that, "Most posts have nothing with tennis"

If you are really a parent, and not the coach himself, we are trying to advise you that under no circumstances
would it be appropriate for this coach to work with your junior.

Another poster, made a valuable point, what about the day your junior googles this coach.

The most important job, yes, it is a job, is to protect our children and make sure they are safe.

Safety comes before fun, education, and tennis.

Good luck and thanks for posting.
