Djokovic's Wimbledon Triumph - A lucky victory he WON'T repeat - can he win 10 Slams?

Or can he win it again?

Does Nole have the potential to get into double digits in his Slam count with stats such as say, 2 Wimbledons (slower grass now), 5 AO, 1 RG and 2 US Opens.

I could see him ruling the roost at the AO as the surface is absolute perfect for his game. I can't see him not completing a Career Grand Slam and his game is certainly good enough for 2 US Opens as he's only been denied in the past before by peak Fed (one of best US Open players of all time) and Nadal. The only real question for me is Wimbledon, would he be able to repeat there? In the past he's been taken out by aggressive tactics on the surface as recently as being ousted by Tommy Haas in 2009, thoughts?

This is in no way a sensationalist thread aimed at getting you to watch my new Djokovic Wimbledon video, not at all.

This forum is going down the toilet fast with threads such as this!!!!!!

Come on is it so unreasonable to think he could get 10 Majors?

I actually think he'll end on about 7 or so maybe 8 but 10 certainly isn't out of the question. Surely he's the favourite against any opponent on the Plexicushion of the Australian Open. He's proven time and time again he has a game which is suited to the US Open and he's managed to put Nadal to the sword on clay but just failed to reach the RG Final.

It's "FrankenCvac",not "FrankenCvak". Spell it correctly,please.

Anyway,I think he will not only get to 10 majors, but will get even beyond that. Pete's record is doable, for sure. Having no competition means he will rack up slams.

And I also think he will win Wimbledon again this year as well. Who is going to stop him?

It was a fluke. Like Nadal winning AO/USO.

Honestly, I will be very surprised if Djokovic wins another Wimbledon or Nadal wins another AO/USO.

Also I don't expect Djokovic to win more than one FO. He is 25 and has yet to reach the final. He's been reaching slam finals since he was 20...

Djokovic might win multiple AO and USO but I don't see him winning more than once at Wimbledon/FO.

If he reaches 10 slams it could be something like this:

5 AO
1 FO
1 Wimbledon
3 USO

Yet you are the same one who tried to imply he would have won virtually all the 2008-2010 slams as Djokovic 2.0. Atleast make up your mind what you really think.

I never said all. Just most of the HC slams.

You said most of the slams Nadal won which were mostly clay/grass slams. Perhaps you should think things through better next time.

Jeez, HC slams and maybe an odd RG/Wimbledon

Djokovic could have close to 10 slams now.

Take away those 2 HC slams Nadal won plus FO 2010. Add USO 2009 and there you have it. Maybe even Wimbledon 2010.

Nadal would have won like 3 slams since 2008 instead of the 7 he won.

BTW, you predicted Serena would win like 27 slams.

That is hilarious.

She will be lucky to reach 15.

Djokovic is the 3rd best grass player after Federer and Nadal although his top level may exceed Nadal's. He's conquered the slow grass of Wimbledon. His footwork is efficient and he's finished in the semifinals or better several times which shows his quality as a grass court player.
It also helps that all surfaces are similar so it's not surprising that he's comfortable on grass.

Murray is better on grass than Djokovic.

^ I simply can't agree with that.

How come Djokovic has never won a title on grass before Wimbledon? Just like Agassi and Stich who won their first grass title at Wimbledon. And they just won that sole Wimbledon.

Murray has better game on grass.

Unfortunately he melts at slams.

Once Nole senses that his absolute peak's end is near, he will still have enough game to win slams, likely begin trying to peak just for them, and probably win at least a couple more after this point.

But right now he is the top dog maintaining the absolute best form with the most consistency--there is just no room for any doubt about it.

He is the defending Wimbledon champ; he supplanted a reigning champion last year in Rafa who had made four (won two) of the previous five finals there. Until further notice, Novak is the prohibitive favorite for Wimbledon 2012.

True....Djokovic was struggling against Baghdatis, and Tomic. Remarable he turned it around in the semis and finals.

Murray is more of a consistent performer on the Grass.....but he hasn't proved himself at Wimbledon like Novak has.

Nadal has to be at least win one more RG.......He can't possibly stay at 10.

Nadal can manage at least another 3 majors if he earns them in the next...two years. After that, his style of playing will wear him down so much that his position as a contender could erode. It seems wild to think such a physically strong player could fall from tennis grace so quickly, but it would not be the first time it happened.

Federer is not a good grass player anymore, and it is well noted Djokovic is a nightmare matchup for Nadal currently although Nadal is the better grass court player. Murray is around the same level as a grass courter I would say (excluding the mental aspect where Djokovic is still way ahead). He has a good shot at any of the slams this year including Wimbledon, but Wimbledon and the French are the most likely for him to be beaten by someone.

I'd put Andy Roddick above either tbh.

I agree. It could happen but it also would be strange seeing Djokovic win 2 Wimbledons in a row when he is probably only about the 5th or so (at best) skill wise grass player of this era. It would just be a reflection of his overall dominance and that he was fortunate to peak when some of the better grass players, especialy Federer and Roddick, arent so good anymore. Even players like Berdych and Tsonga can definitely beat Djokovic on grass if they are on their games though. He is very vurnerable on the surface.

I would too, I'd even put Roddick ahead of Hewitt on grass as well, all though he doesn't have a Wimbledon title, Roddick didn't have to play grass court legend Nalbandian or Nadal (certainly beatable for Roddick on grass if playing well). Unfortunately it's about what era you play your best in. Roddick had to play a horrible matchup; But fair play to Djokovic, that wasn't a fluke. Do people remeber his solid showing at 2007 and making the final of Queens? Yes he's not a great grass courter but definately not a novice.

Nadal was pretty lucky to win his 2 Wimby's. Two words really sum up his victories at Wimby: mono and Berdych.

Don't you think Djokovic had a little luck though to win Australian Open 2008? Playing Federer who was definately not 100% and facing Tsonga in the finals, coupled with the fact he played night matches often which got around his lack of fitness?

No way. Not with the way things have unfolded over the past year.

Things change in tennis quickly sometimes. It is unrealistic to think Nadal will not win another slam. He is only 25 and I know his tennis age is higher but he is reaching all of the finals with Djokovic. If Djokovic loses one who wins? Or what if Djokovic is knocked out in an earlier round or injured?

Let's not panic about Nadal yet. Give him until the FO before we eulogize him.

like federer, roddick got a 4 yr. weak era with choker clowns like mahut who had break points for the queens club grass title and olivier rochus who lost a 3-1 3rd set against federer in halle (a joke grass tourney).

as soon as nadal played roddick in 2009 and federer in 2008, they resembled dinosaurs.

I don't think it is. Who thought Fed would go two years without winning another slam after he won the AO in 2010? Nadal,at this point,is incapable of changing up his game enough to beat FrankenCvac. Until he makes a ton of changes he won't be able to beat him on any surface. And with Murray,Delpo,Tsonga, and several others lurking about his road to winning another slam is going to be a very tough one.

Yes of course. I've always said Djoker's 2008 AO was a fluke. The proof is in the data. But nothing after that was fluke.

ROTFL, only an idiot would ever think a royally crappy Federer was ever winning Wimbledon 2010. Then again look who I am talking to. Federer is lucky Berdych put him out of his misery at that event, Falla should have done it 1st round. Against his nemisis Nadal he might have gotten 9 games in the final if lucky that year.

Surely you kid. How many slams have Del Potro and Tsonga won? You think either one of those guys are going to seriously challenge Nadal?

I still say let's wait and see what happens in the next few months. If Nadal loses the FO to Djokovic I will be ready to bury him.

Re Federer not winning a slam after 2010, why is it so hard to believe, he was 28 then and long past his prime plus he now has a family. Whole different ball game for Fed now.

Hewitt vs Roddick is a toss up. Remember a well past his prime Hewitt with an injury almost beat a red hot Roddick at Wimbledon 2009. If they played at Wimbledon in 2004 and 2005 Roddick probably takes 2004, but Hewitt even more probably takes 2005. Hewitt also beat a close to prime Sampras at Queens more than once. I dont know if Roddick could have managed that.

I don't think so. I think Nadal will end his career with more slams than Djokovic.

I'm not so sure. Nadal's playing style is not going to be a benefit as he ages; he's been troubled with injury before--in younger years--so Nadal going forward will not find it so easy to rack up more majors. Meanwhile, Djokovic appears as though he has no "off switch," and could average 2 or 3 majors a year, and in the event his competition never gets their collective act together, there's no telling how many majors he could win.

I think many players can beat Djokovic at Wimbledon. Djokovic never has a great record at Wimbledon. He has never reach a final at Wimbledon until last year. I'd say he still has to prove himself whether he's a great grass court player or not. One victory is not enough to justify it just yet.

Djokovic has gone to the semifinals several times at Wimbledon so he's definitely got pedigree on grass.

I don't understand how people in the same sentence can pass off Rafa's future for being too physical (understandable) and then think otherwise about Nole's.

It's not like Nole plays an efficient, attacking game in the likes of Federer. In fact, he's got a game that is equally as gruelling as Rafa's, except more offensive in nature. Furthermore, his forehand, serve and hard court sliding all look cringeworthy on the shoulder and knees, made worse because they look more awkward than do Rafa's (although this latter point is subjective).

Someone explain to me how Djokovic is supposed to win slams until he's thirty-something, injury-free with the game he plays now, because I just can't see it if Rafa's not expected to last that long either. Does being gluten-free strengthen knee and shoulder joints too, or does it only make your fitness superhuman?

You know what I realized about Nadal fans - they're like Patriots fans. When they win, they celebrate in excess and make a lot of noise and when they lose they make a lot of excuses then they post these bratty threads rubbing feces all over whoever recently beat them. Anything anti djokovic or federer, you'll likely see a avatar of nadal striking a pose on the side. These people are really effing annoying.

You do know the starter of this thread is a Fed fan right?

And a lot of the Nadal avatars on here are sarcastic digs at him by fans of other players, mainly Fed fans. Look carefully at the op's avatar. Does it really look like a picture a fan of Nadal would use to you?
