Kenneth Carlsen too.
I have Kenneth Carlsen's and Gonzales's sticks.

They used Pure Control Competition.
PPC have without Woofer grommets and 1st gen material and layers.

Few top players ( include Sam Stosur) use Pure control 3rd gen with Pure Storm paint, NOT PCC.

Pls check this pics.

I always thought Hantuchova used the Pure Control TEAM.

You can see woofer grommets, the groove at the ends of the throat bridge, the much wider beam and the 16x20 string pattern.

LOL
Many players change to new spec or new paint, and often they choice old spec or old paint job.
this Daniela's picks is shoted at just that time when she used PC with woofer or take pics for ad.
Just now, She use Yonex.
JM. Del using old pain sticks that have more old specks.
But Wilson ad said He use new Steam (or Juice??)
If you want to talk real sticks, plas use engeniering code.
TGK or PT or TX,,,,,Babolat's have five numbers for pro's sticks.

I've known about paint jobs for about 25 years now. That's not a ad for Daniela. That was taken at the Old Women's German Open when she was the hot new player on the tennis seen.
Daniela does not use Yonex any longer. For the last 5 years she has used Prince.
Hantuchova_2012_Dubai.jpg

Here she is again in Miami using the real Pure Control TEAM with Woofer grommets and 16x20 in Miami at the then Nasdaq.

Yes i'm aware of all that, but in the first photo i posted it's a box beam frame, plays nicely, I just wandered if anyone knew if they had any pro's using that frame back then before the second gen swirly painted frames came out in '98 ish?

Thanks Ericsson, I had forgotten about him! Strikes me that it is such a nice frame to use, seems suprising that not many used it at the time.

Certainly the same mold, most solid babolat i have ever used!

If I'm counting correctly, the racket Lareau has in that photo has 20 crosses. The gen-1 Pure Control was 16x18. 2nd gen & thereafter is 16x20.

I think I was once told that the first run was made 16 by 18 then they changed, not sure why, plays nicely as an open pattern but i don't have a closed one to compare it to,.
Anybody hit with one and the Pure storm ltd

Years ago, I hit with some version of the Pure Control and thought it was one of greatest feeling racquets I've ever tried. Sadly, all the Pure Controls were later discontinued.
All the Pure Drives, Storms, and Aeros don't feel the same at all.

Here is a Babolat ad from 1997 for the Pro One SuperMid Mold of the Pure Control. I got to hit with one way back when and thought it was a nice racquet.

Also I hope this helps people looking for stringing instructions.

Dave is correct, the first batch were 16x18 and 335grams unstrung, a little later the 18x20 came out and these were 330 grams unstrung.

Babolat was known to change specs along the way, the first Pure Drive was 280gr unstrung...

You are right, i forgot about him, he did briefly used a first generation Pure Control, also in 18x20 pattern.

ps: yes Babolat used the Donnay pro one supermidsize mold...

I thought Gonzo used the the Pure Control + Swirly (2nd Generation, I think), not the Pure Control Competition?

And as for Stosur, I definitely didn't think she used the one in the above link, i.e., the PC Team (2003 it came out IIRC).

I don't know. Maybe my info is completely wrong, or maybe I've misunderstood what the OP is saying, so if nycoara, or ericsson, McLovin, LP Shanet, Dave M, or other PC connoisseurs could please confirm this to be true/false, give further info, that would be much appreciated.

Also, I'm extremely curious as to Stosur's specs. Does anyone know for sure, or have a pretty good idea?

TIA

Ross, I don't know if this in any help, but I have one of Carlsen's rackets.

n6xcva.jpg

It's a really strange one, sorry for the photo, only one I have and the racket is in storage. The grommet channel is different to any other Pure Control including the swirly, this seems to be a unique pro mold, and it has the grommets from the 1st Generation Pure Control, including the "wings" at 3 and 9 o'clock, very odd indeed!

Looking at the post you quoted though, what is the Pure Control Competition? I've never heard of it, maybe that's what this mold above is?

Interesting stuff gents... but can anyone shed any light on my query in post no. 27?

Hey Ross, have another look at my post above, I did shed some light at least, but didn't know what a Pure Control Competition was, now I do!

My racket in that photo (again sorry about the quality), is in fact a Pure Control Competition, I just found out. In this case it is a 2nd Gen (swirly), with 1st Gen grommets, in a 3rd Gen (Team) paintjob!

It is Carlsen's racket, which in post 27 he explains was apparently the same as Gonzales's (only not extended).

So basically Gonzales under the paint used a Pro version (Competition) of the extended 2nd Gen (swirly) Pure Control it seems!

Also this proves that Pro mold Babolats do (or at least did) exist. As my racket above has a grommet channel different to any retail Babolat racket definitely.

Oh, and I havn't got a clue what Stosur is using:)

Thanks for that jimbo. I expect some others will chip in with a comment or 2. I thought Carlsen and Gonzo used different PCs, but this may well be incorrect, or so it would appear.

Re Stosur, I don't think it's ever been conclusively shown what frame exactly she really is using.

Cheers Ross, although I'm not sure anyone else here knows the truth about this? Either that or they are just not saying.

Sorry to bring this thread up from the archives, but I have an important question. On e_Bay, I found a pure control that has the following specs: 335g, 31cm balance. This would indicate it is a 16x18 but I counted 76 grommet holes on the frame ((18+20)x2=76) and I saw Dave's frame (which was a 16x18 ) had 68 grommet holes (and (16+18 )x2=68 ) so is it possible there was a 335g 18x20 version? It's really important to me because I only want it if it's an 18x20, so thanks to anyone who replies.

Hi, to answer your question, yes it is possible. These came in both 335 and 330gr in 18x20 (in the red and black paintjob)

Hope this helps...

Is it soft, solid, demanding?
Which one from today's modern rackets it can be compared with?
