What do you think of Novak's 2012 Season as far as the Grand Slams go?

He reached all four semifinals in the Grand Slams in the year, joining Federer as the only players to do this at least twice in their career. (Of course, Federer achieved this in 5 different years.)

It is interesting that he had an identical year to Federer's often cited weak year of 2008. However, both of those years would rank as the 8th most consistent years ever.

Great season from Novak. Has a very decent shot at finishing number 1. Obviously not up to 2011 standards, but that season was one of the greatest ever.

Murray - 1 Quarter Final, 1 Semi Final, 1 Final and 1 Win
Nadal - 1 Final, 1 2nd round (lol) and 1 Win

On paper Djokovic still had the best year out of all the top 4.

I think he also jus edged Federer out in the Masters Series wins too? Djokovic has still had the best year up to date IMO. Although! It certainly has been a break-through year for Murray and now everyone of the top 4 RIGHTFULLY has a Grandslam to their name. :mrgreen:

Fed won IW, Madrid, Cincy, Djoker won Miami and Toronto.

Federer has 6 titles on the year, Djoker has 3. Djoker is ahead in the race because of his Major finals, but I'd say Fed's had the better year so far overall. More titles, more Masters, equal Major wins.

...and Federer has a Silver medal... yet Murray has a Gold ... but Murray stands without a Masters title. Probably jus goes to Federer then with Djokovic second and Murray in 3rd. Pretty much how the race rankings suggest lol

We'll see how the year ends, I personally think Federer's going to run away with it, there's a Paris masters to come which is played indoors and then the World Tour Finals which is also indoors.

Murray is a fantastic indoor player, and Djokovic isn't bad under the roof (though he's more prone to dropping off like last year). I think Federer and Murray will clean up indoors.

Considering in 2010 people were writing Novak off as a 1-slam wonder, it was a great year. There was no way he was going to match 2011.

Any year with a slam win is a success, and he has had plenty more success to back it up.

He's had a very good season, though might be concerned with his relative lack of success against the rest of the top 4 since the AO.

Yeah,and Nadal's season was supposedly good last year,but in reality it wasn't. Making numerous finals yet winning almost none of them isn't a good thing no matter how you slice it. Cvac is in the same boat this year,and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy(and his team of premature ejaculators). :lol:

Consider the follow-up seasons by the open era male players who won three slams in a single year:
  • Laver 1970: 0 slams, 0 finals
  • Connors 1975: 0 slams, 3 finals
  • Wilander 1989: 0 slams, 0 finals
  • Federer 2005: 2 slams, 0 finals
  • Federer 2007: 3 slams, 1 final
  • Federer 2008: 1 slam, 2 finals
  • Nadal 2011: 1 slam, 2 finals
  • Djokovic 2012: 1 slam, 2 finals

No one has done better than Djokovic except Federer (twice). I'd say the Djoker turned in a solid follow-up.

He made 3 finals.(and a semifinal!)
That's damn good in my book.
Now he knows what it must've felt like for Nadal last year when Nadal got to 3 finals and only won 1 as well.

That's your opinion. I'd say, if a player clinches Year-End No.1 his season should be regarded as great.

He may clinch year end number one,but he won't have deserved it. Fed has done better this year than Cvac has as a whole,and hopefully he defends his points in the fall so Cvac never gets back to number one.

He won't diserve it?? In any case Federer didn't diserve it as he got it back by wining mickey mouse tournaments when Nadal and Djokovic were better at the slams. Djokovic still is, Nadal for obvious reasons not anymore.

On Topic: He had a great year, he is the N°1 player in the race, so I don't see how anyone could think otherwise.

Comparing to what the rest of the tour won, it's a lot. But Djokovic had US Open, Australian Open and Roland Garros final. And he had 2 Masters and some finals (I'm talking about when Wimbledon finished).

Djoko has done much better in slams than Fed: 1 title + 2 finals +1 semi as opposed to 1 Q, 2 S + 1 title for Fed. He's also made more master finals (5) although he's 1 title short of Fed but there are still 2 masters + WTF left. It's gonna be tight for #1 ranking at the end but based on the 4 majors, Novak would deserve it more. Hope he proves it by winning something before year end.

He had a great year. Comparing to last is almost unfair.

When you add in the Gold Medal though, Murray had the best year. The Gold Medal beats all the Masters events you want to mention.

Djokovic has played 13 events this year (4 Slams, 7 Masters, the Olympics and Dubai) and made 8 finals, 3 semi-finals and 1 quarter-final. He is 1-3 in Slam finals and 2-3 in Masters finals.

While not on the level of his 2011 season (and how could he be expected to keep to THAT level), his 2012 season has been one that every single player in the ATP, with the possible exception of the other top 3, would die for!

Im not suprised, growing up, he probably played primarily indoors.

The British weather can be miserable, but Scottish weather is bitter!

He probably got a few decent outdoor sessions a year up there growing up.

LOL this is what happens when you lose. If Novak won either the French or the US Open, we'll be praising what a wonderful season he has had.

He's had a great season even though his performances in them finals stunk, especially in the US.

Simply put, a great year for Djokovic. He won the Australian Open, got to the final at the French Open, the semifinals at Wimbledon, and the final at the US Open. Add on two Masters titles and who could complain?

How does everyone think he'll perform during this upcoming fall stretch of the season?

That's what I said. Fed has done better as a whole this year than Cvac has. Cvac hadn't won a title since Miami until he Mickey Moused his way to a win in Toronto this year. Fed has won more titles this year as well. He has won Rotterdam,Dubai,IW,Madrid,Wimby,Olympic Silver,and Cinci so far. Cvac has won the AO,Miami,and Mickey Mouse Toronto.

And since winning titles off of one's best surface is so important around these parts,Cvac also has not won a title off of hardcourts since Wimby nearly a year and a half ago. Fed has won a title on all surfaces this year. The same cannot be said for Mr. Roboto.

Let's hope not. Djokovic may have done better than Federer in the slams overall but the truth is both of them have each won a slam, and Federer has won 6 titles (3 Masters 1000) and Djokovic has only won 3 (2 Masters 1000's.)
Djokovic has really done quite poorly compared to his 2011 year, that is the reality, despite how far he may have made it in each of the slams. The overall result was a failure for Djokovic. He let a 31 year old guy take the number one spot away from him, yeah that is a real success for Djokovic! :rolleyes:

Hopefully Federer will continue to do better than Djokovic indoors and not let that imposter Djokovic take back the number one spot.

Djokovic won the Australian Open and made the final of the French and the US Open.

I'm not really sure what you are arguing. That Djokovic won more than Fed? If so, you've lost that argument. Fed has 6 titles and Djokovic only has 3...

Again, that's your opinion. People who create the ranking method know more about tennis than you, so their opinion carries more weight than yours.
