Nadal is not the worst match up for Federer

Yes he is. Nadal has the leading H2H against Federer. The H2H between Federer and Andreev is 4-0. Just because he got a set off Federer here and there doesn't make him anything special. And yes, Andreev puts a lot of topspin on his forehand. Most of us knew that already.. he's also ranked 108.

God, you're daft.

Nadal is an alltime great. He is the toughest OPPONENT for Federer.

Andreev is more or less a journeyman but on 2 different occasions he has given Federer hell. That is what matchup means.

Seriously, there should be an intelligence quota here.

Thanks for that piece of wisdom. I've been away from the boards due to work, so I was unable to follow your debut on the forums. Pray tell, which banned/returning user are you? And how come you have so much free time?

University is starting next month. :)

Pfft.. so what you're saying is that Andreev's style is the most difficult for Federer to handle, even more difficult than Nadal's. Nadal is just tougher because he's the overall better player? Well, that's a bit arbitrary because it's hard to talk about playing style and level of play as two completely unrelated things. For example, if some club player showed up and kept lobbing ridiculous topspin forehands to Federer's backhand you could argue that he's a bad matchup for him although he still loses 6-0 6-0.

Either way, I still disagree because I think Nadal's topspin forehands are more difficult to handle for Federer than Andreev's topspin forehands. Also, the fact that Nadal is a lefty is one of the main reasons that he is the worst matchup. He can just keep cross-courting that forehand to Fed's backhand. A righty can't do the same thing.

God, you're daft.

Already starting with the ad hominem attacks?

It's not only the forehand of Nadal that bothers Federer. It's also that slice serve which Fed can almost never attack...

Well, I dunno. It's unreal how this jackass redlines his game when Federer is on the other side. I mean even Nadal doesn't blow him off the court like that.

This thread is mean to be light hearted. Chill the f out.

Especially true on grass.

On hardcourt he can do a good job on it though, sometimes.

Oh also his own slice is very ineffective against him. Also, the most natural choice, which is to approach the net is very difficult aganst Ralph.

He's both his toughest matchup and his toughest opponent. There's no way you can have a winning head to head against Federer without being a great player, but I can guarantee he wouldn't have done as well if he was a righty.

Oh, Simon is the worse... that match in last year's AO was strange.

And Cañas... man, that match in IW was sick.

Andeev vs Fed as USO was such a great match. Completely out of nowhere thriller. They kept panning to Andreev's box, and there was no one there! Andreev was a man completely alone that evening, and he played the best tennis of his life.

The AO encounter was enjoyable at first, because it looked like Igor would maybe score the unthinkable upset, but he really choked that match away big time.

OP is joking I assume? Fed owns the matchup but it has definitely been interesting

That was a scary match, Andreev actually served for that 3rd set and a 2 sets to 1 lead. In the first round!

Loads of fun though :)

Nadal has given Federer hell on 18 different occasions. If that's the method of reasoning used to describe a difficult match-up, then Nadal wins hands down.

OP, are you aware that your so called 'worst match up for Federer' has not won a single match against Federer?

What a stupid thread. Im sure Federer has nightmares about Andreev.

1. It's not 100% serious.

2. Considering the quality of the respective players, he has more nightmares pound for pound about Andreev than he has over Nadal. :) At least Nadal doesn't hit those ******** winners from 10 feet behind the court while Federer is well in position.

Andreev and Simon gives Fed more trouble than they should at their rank so yea they can be considered bad match ups for him. Whether they are worse match ups for him than Simon, it's too hard to tell consider the many variables involved. Personally though I think they are. A big part of why Nadal leads Federer in H2H is because he has the mental advantage. Also Federer failed to stay with/execute the winning strategy at times.
