Hey, if any people live in Connecticut here, do you guys know if we have any clay courts here? Thanks, I know better than to ask for grass court, lol.

Not sure if they are still there, but there were outdoor red clay courts in Norwich, at Mohegan Park ( I think that is the name of the park). It has been 6 years since I left Connecticut but these were public courts. I saw Mal Washington and His brother, play an exhibtion match against the Jensens, about 8 years ago, on those courts.

Can anyone confirm that these outdoor red clay courts in Norwich still exist? And if so, give some cross streets or something?

Thanks-

(or any other red clay courts in CT)

Ace.. I Just looked on Mapquest..The courts ARE/were in Mohegan park. If you know where Bacus Hospital is.. take RT 32 south to Mohegan Park Rd, Take a left and as you enter the park stay straight for about 1/4-1/3 mile, the courts are on your left opposite a Park Admin Building which, would be on your right.

Sorry to rivive this ancient thread but yes I live right near these courts and they are still here. I actually own a book written by the guy who built these courts and its all about how they were built, clay, etc. It also has pictures of the Japanese Davis cup team that came here and played on them, pretty cool. If anyone in CT is looking to play give me a holler. jebzino@yahoo.com.

Hey everyone I just moved to ct and I'm looking for some hitting partners. I'm around a 4.0 level.

Send me an email if you're interested. I'm around Hartford.

Hey man, welcome to the warm city of Hartford :) usually right now people are doing their winter leagues or ladders in different clubs. There are not a lot of posters here from the Hartford area......... I can give you recommendations of some ways to hit around the area this time or in the summer months. You can email me on here.

Too bad you're not closer to New Haven, otherwise we could have hit. If you're 4.0, the best thing to do is find a local club that's doing a "tennis party". People show up and are randomly paired with others to play a set or two of doubles. Then they are rotated through out the night. It's great social way of finding other peeps to hit with. That's how I found a majority of the partners I play with now.

How did the hit go? North Haven would be a long haul from Groton. Especially since we don't know the other guy's car situation.

We were supposed to hit tonight, he signed up for a ladder at East Hartford tonight, my elbow has been nagging for few days. But Zidane is in Hartford for a while so we will hit sometime. I will have him sign up too for the Ct Tennis Circuit during the summer.

Innovashaun is in the other thread...... Ill keep checking with him. Where do you play in the winter?

I play at Tennis Central in Woodbridge. It's a bubble so it's not the most luxurious of clubs, but I'm not complaining since they treat us very well there.

I played there once I think, the Yale summer tournament in July got rained one year so we got sent there......it made the sounds when you hit really loud.

Sorry, ended up fracturing my foot this past summer and have been out of action for the last 6 months because of it. The city kinda let the courts go to crap last year but they are currently REALLY cleaning them up for the local high school team that uses them. They should be perfect in a few weeks to play on if anyone is interested? I'm a 4.5 -5.0 but a little rusty from not playing all winter.

Anyone here interest to have some hitting session around 5-7pm weekday or 10-12 am weekend? I've been playing tennis for about 10 years. If you 4.0+ and interest we can arrange to meet up at around these areas. Email me @ chida06@yahoo.com.

Check out the Ct Tennis Circuit, just started and you can still sign up. Most play in Conard high school in West Hartford.

Had a great time hitting with Rommil today on the clay courts. Probably one of the last nice hot days of summer, once it starts getting cold at night/am they close the courts down. Decided to take some pics of the courts for everyone...

^^^^^^^Just came back from dinner and saw your post. Thanks J :) for inviting and hitting with me on these courts, hope they don't tear these courts down.

We will have to hit on the cruel hardcourts soon since for the life of me I don't have the footing for clay:(

Whoa, that should be snow country there in a couple of months:(

Try to contact themitchman from this thread, he is closer to that area.

Just stumbled back onto this thread. New Canaan is about an hour from me. I'm in the NW corner of the state.

There should be plenty of places to hit in that area (big $$$$ in that part of the state).

My bad......, I thought New Canaan was a bit up higher near Sharon or Goshen, no kidding on the dollar signs:)

Yeah there should be plenty (moneyful) places down there near the Stamford/Norwalk area.

Yeah there should be plenty (moneyful) places down there near the Stamford/Norwalk area.

You were close: Canaan is in my neck of the woods.

It's funny you mentioned Sharon and Goshen: my summer club is in Goshen, and I regularly help teach a yearly summer clinic at the Sharon Country Club.

Anyone know some public clay courts near Norwalk or New Haven?

There are no free to play public courts in New Haven (Yale used to have some, but no longer). There are Har-Tru courts that are pay-to-play at the Fairfield Tennis Center on the Norwalk end of things. Up towards New Haven there is the Country Club of Woodbridge. I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a member to play there, but just pay like a $10 fee. I could be wrong on the last one, since when I played it was with a member.

I was in New Haven and drove out to Branford, CT. Their Foote Memorial Park had 8 amazing hard-tru clay courts along with 4 regular hard courts.

The hard-tru ones were locked though probably due to maintenance at the time.

It was supposed to be residents only (you need a parking sticker) but no one was there to check anyway.

The hard-tru courts were VERY well maintained. The hard courts were not. There were a lot of cracks and leaves covering the cracks. Very slippery.
