Such a bummer for Sabine. Definitely should have won that match. The sooner Woz loses the better so hopefully she gets sent packing next match.

Possible choking by Kvitova? She's playing lousy and just got broken.

This girl aims for the lines every possible opportunity. Drives me nuts!!

Kvitova takes the 1st 6-4.

I don't understand. After Serena rolled her ankle, she put in three winners in the game after.

Gallovits couldn't move her around at all. Just put every ball right in the strike zone. Serena started going for huge forehands and big angles and got most of them in. She never had to do more than a light jog for 2-3 steps. Edina is putting everything in the middle of the court.

ReRe putting away the points quickly to minimize stress on her injury.

Go, ReRe, go!

She's looking OK, but she's obviously going very easy on the ankle. Don't know how she'll be in the next day or two though. If she were playing a quality opponent who could hit side to side she'd be in serious trouble.

Ever heard of a drop shot GH? Serena is clearly struggling with movement, maybe you should try something other than medium paced flat shots down the middle of the court.

Kvitova just looks sloppy out there. She has about the same number of winners as Schiavone, but I'm sure she has a lot more UEs as well. I don't think Kvitova likes the heat.

Even commentators are mentioning Kvitova needing to get in better shape.

5-2 Schiavone in the 2nd.

GH has started trying to hit some drop shots, but they're bouncing at the service line. Not very effective.

And ReRe doubles down with the double bagel.
That was over so fast I didn't get the chance to switch back from Milos' match.

UEs
Kvitova 30
Schiavone 16

Triple set point for Schiavone.....

Tied at 1 set each after a Kvitova DF...

Kvitova up a break 1-0 thanks to Franny's DF....

Neither woman can land a 1st serve today... Ugh!

Kvitova up a double break 3-0.

Why is it a bummer for Sabine? She is a class A head case. I for one am glad she lost.

It's a bummer because I cannot stand Woz. Because Sabine blew it, I will be subjected to Woz for at least one more match.

Sabine is more talented but she is a much bigger head case than Wozniacki is. You can always count on Sabine to be a drama queen and blow matches. For that reason, I prefer Wozniacki.

Woz will lose eventually probably but she has a lot of head cases in her section--i.e. Svetlana, Pavlyuchenkova. I have a feeling Woz may lose to Pavlyuchenkova if Pavlyuchenkova can hold it together for once! (50-50 shot.)

“I haven’t had enough time to assess it yet so we’re just going to see how it is in a few hours from now,” Williams told the media. “I’ll be out there unless something fatal happens to me; there’s no way I’m not going to be competing…I’m here to play.”

What a boss :)

Why does it look like most female tennis players backs are caved in.

Kirilenko and jankovic are the only ones off the top of my head that have a straight back when they walk/play

of course there's a natural curvature ... the guys have it too, but it's obscured by their loose shirts. some of the women look like theyre wearing bandage dresses, which emphasize the curves of the back as well as the curves of the front!

grats to Caro for advancing to the second round. didnt see the whole thing, but the announer was saying it was very hot, speaking of which, Caro was looking slimmer this season and showing off her new stella mccartny to wardrobe malfunction advantage ..... her next opponent is croatian Donna Vekic! :)

good call! :) Pavlyuchenkova lost in three tuff sets in the first round to an opponent i've never heard of before, a ukranian named Lesia Tsurenko.

It's only day three and already six of the 32 seeds are gone bye-bye in the first round

OMG she is ridiculously awesome.

I guess having literally faced down life-threatening injuries, it changes your perspective on things a little bit. And I know she really wants this.

A bit of a cakewalk for Woz until she potentially gets to Kuzy. Disappointing from Pavly, could have made a nice run. Another russian headcase!

Madison Keys completely spanked Paszek in the first set of their match. She has HUGE groundstrokes and a good serve....I personally think she has a lot more potential than Sloane Stephens. I like this girl.

She is playing well but for a young girl I hope she stops growing, her athletic ability may be a problem.

While it's true she may not be as athletic as someone like Stephens I think she makes up for it with her superior groundstrokes and that great serve. Lets not forget lack of athleticism didn't stop players like Davenport from achieving success. Do I think she is a world beater and future goat? Probably not. But from what I've seen of her so far I think she definitely has top 10 potential.

All the commentators are high on Madison "Avenue" Keys (as Brad Gibert calls her). Watching her now I definitely see the potential. Great serve, willing to move forward, natural power.

Agree as well but when I saw her play before while she was loosing, her mental was not that strong... That's the only flaw I see though

Keys looks like she knows she can do it, unlike sloane and Mchale when they started out.

I say keys>Mchale>sloane> etc

Good win

Tiny Cibulkova got booted by a Russian whose name I have trouble pronouncing.

These Czech and Slovakian girls are the embodiment of brainless ball bashing. Kvitova, Safarova, Hantuchova, Cibulkova, Zahlavova-Strycova, Gajdosova, Vaidisova, Hradecka, Hlavackova.... no real difference in their play.

Any picks on Stosur-Zheng?

Zheng did make it to the SF here in 2010. Stosur hasn't convinced me she can overcome her fear of playing in her country.

Ouch at that gimme miss by Stosur....

WOW at that 2nd serve shank! Made a 2.5 level hack proud...LOL Sammy getting nervous?

Stosur does hold. 3-2.

Stosur's backhand is more of a mess than Wozniacki's forehand. Zheng should just keep hitting it there.

Zheng holds to love. 3-3.
