Federer to continue with the 98 inch racquet after the U.S. Open

Just heard the commentators from the US Open stream site talking that he is just using the old racquet for the US Open, but afterwards the experimentation will continue.
If he wins the US Open, I'd be scratching my head, but if he doesn't I think it'd be a good move to give it more time with the bigger racquet.

Yeah this is old news. Tony Godsick addressed this right after Hamburg.

I just heard this while watching the match vs Zemlja.

I think going back to a 98 experiment is a huge mistake. He should stick with good old 6.1 90.

why didn't he go to a 95 or 93 instead?

the jump from 90 would not have been as big and he probably would have felt less uncomfortable than with the 98.

He realized that long ago. That's why he's not playing tennis with a badminton racquet. Night and day difference between the two. Do you know how much a badminton racquet weighs? Weight is more important than size with tennis racquets.

He's not changing his current racquet as there is simply no time to spend the six to twelve months to make such a shift.

You are way off target. I know the difference between the two and I know
he does too. My badminton racket comment was made in reference to the
tiny headsize of his 90 sq.in Wilson racket.

Fed will always have his occasional shanks with how big his swings are and how fast they are... regardless of the size of his racquet. He needs the larger racquet to get more power, so he doesn't get outhit. If they can make a 95 or 98 that has more power than the PS90 but still has good feel, Fed will likely be willing to make the switch.

You must have a pretty big badminton racquet if you have one that's 90 sq. in.

Hold a Wilson Tour 90 next to a standard wood racquet and then tell me that the Tour 90 still looks "tiny".

I was sitting next to a wilson guy (had a wilson vendor pass around his neck) at the open tonight. We were talking, I asked what was the blacked out racket fed was trying. He said fed is between rackets now and the black frame is a 95" but now fed is using the 90". I said I thought his stick was a 98", he said it was not 98 and was sure it was a 95".

I asked about some more details but did not get anything else.

Don't have any proof that this guy new what he was talking about, only saw his wilson credentials (which had his photo on it).

I think if federer switches durring this slump, it's a mental defeat. I'm thinking that that will totally negate any benefits. Like its said, federer can physically still win, it's the mental emotional part.

I still don't understand why he won't spec the living hell out of the current BLX PS 95. It's similar in structure to what he's been using.

But what do I know, haha.

For the same reason you don't, and are actually switching from your BLX 90 down to a PS 6.0 85. :)

LOL, but I already spec'd the living hell out of my BLX90. I'm afraid anymore more tweaking would stall the rotation of the Earth...

And I'm still contemplating, jeez... :)

But why won't you do the same specs on a BLX PS 95 as on your BLX 90 and use that instead? I'd bet it's because you get better control and maneuverability with a smaller racquet. Same for Federer. :)
