Yeah, specs appear identical, including string pattern. In fact, it appears to be from the same mold. Aside from the new paint, the difference seems to be in two things under the "Product Technology tab" at the product page.
1. CS Carbon Nanotubes: "Neo CS Carbon Nanotube embedded in the shaft of the VCORE Tour G produces greater flexibility to hold the ball on the strings for longer allowing players to generate even greater levels of spin for an aggressive bounce and precise control."
They appear to be saying that the shaft is more flexible, as in past generations of Yonex frames, making for more dwell time and a higher rebound angle, thus:
I've never heard a company claim that uber-stiff carbon nanotubes make a racquet more flexible before, but nevermind.
2. More weight at 3&9? "The I.P.S. (Integrated Power Weight System) technology places weight at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions of the frame to give the face a greater moment of inertia."
The Vcore 97 Tours have pretty high twistweights but it appears that Yonex is trying to boost this even more. Twistweights in "players" racquets have been rising quite a bit over the past three years, according to TW University data. High twist weights used to be pretty exclusive to oversize and tweener Bab-type frames. No more.
According to this presser, Yonex will release the Tour G on 10 January. I have no idea if "release" means the model will available for sale on that date or not.
I quite like the 97Tour and wish they would simply reddrill it for 16x18 and keep the beautiful red paint.

This would be good since the Tour 89 is a flat shot machine. Hitting hard flat shots are actually really fun and like it a lot, but I would also be interested in the more spin oriented design in the same racquet, too.

Anyone heard anything more about a U.S. release date? I currently hit with the Tour 97 310g, and love it. I'm really excited to hit with the new VCore Tour G!

I am the first on the waiting list at my shop,I told them whenever it gets there I want to receive a call to go pick up one of that 97G, so I can compare with my current 97T, hopefully the new ones won't be too soft. If anything goes unexpected I'll go to unexpected heavy weight between 97T 330 and the 97G.

Awesome. I remember when those came out. Kind of an original idea at the time - thicker, more potent beam on the "lightweight player's" idea. Sort of started a trend, I think.

I probably win. I wanted a heavier and more solid Yonex to hit with.
I don't think the Tour 97 is going away. I think the G Tour is an expansion of the line only. Not sure, but that's what the Yonex websites seem to be suggesting.

Without implying that it was overall unstable, the VCT 330 Tour could be even more stable considering its weight. I tend to agree with the TW review in this regard.
Now one minor other issue is "feel", although playing for a long time with it I got used to the frame and I had no real problem with how I connected to the racquet, I am confident "feel" can be improved, similarly to how it was enhanced in the case of the transition from Ezone 98 to the new Ai 98, a definite improvement.
If these two aspects get improved, the Tour G will surely be a winner. Color scheme and everything I do tend to prefer the black side, not sure about the orange color.

According to Yonex and Sony's article, VCORE Tour G , Xi 98 and 100 will be compatible with Smart Tennis Sensor , but Tour 89 and 97 won't.

I will not only go with he new model, I will also replace my 330s with 310s. I am planning this because the stock Yonex grip is so light that when I use a typical leather grip, and I greatly prefer leather over synthetic, the base weight unstrung goes up to 341 or so and then the balance is also thrown way off. (I now use a wafer thin and super light Kimony but it is simply too thin - no protection whatsoever). If I added lead to the head then I'd be up to 350 or so unstrung. With string and overgrip and dampener, I'd be up to 370ish. So I'll try the 310 model. Wilson Babolat or TW leather grip, 5 or 6 inches 1/4 in lead, string, Yonex dampener (4 gms),, and over grip. Approx. 352 or 353 grams when its all said and done. That's spot on for me.

I feel like it is poor timing for Yonex. If they had the release of the new racquet that Wawrinka is using their sales would definitely spike right now. I don't think anyone would buy the old one since he hasn't been using it for the AO. If the G was out right now I would be buying it to replace my current Tours.

I agree. It would have made a lot more sense to release the G before the Aussie Open, or at least keep Stan in the old red V Core Tour so that there wasn't a difference in what is being sold vs. what he is using.

Stan is still using his Vcore 95D.
So that s the real drama in my opinion.
He plays with a racket that s no longer produced but Yonex makes the customers believe he s playing with a Tour 97 or the new G one.

The racket is quite a bit different from the current 97 tour. It's buttery smooth and with a classic constant box beam. It plays more flexible in the hoop than previous Vcore frames. I really think they are on winner with this frame. The Matte finish on the frame is killer

Yep, more of a control stick. Will probably play great though.
The 95D was so good, but the stiff throat just crushed my arm. I was bummed, really wanted to ride with that thing when I demoed it.

I remember I tried the 95D out and liked it. Thought it was muted and comfy as well. Then again my demo had a multi and I only use multis or gut.
