What is Rosol trying to accomplish by hitting groundstrokes 150mph right into Murray's racquet?? Murray just hits them all back until Rosol misses one.

rosol is a laugh..he just thinks.."i'm just gonna do my thing and if I hit the ball out or into the net, so what !"

He is fun to watch play though. He is like screw it all the time:) I love it. And you know when you are playing these top guys I wish more guys would act like that. They might win more often.

Rosol needs a good coach. He is one of the biggest hitters on tour, but moves like a drunk Isner and constructs points like a club-level ballbasher.

Murray needs to thanks his Scottish a.s.s it was Rosol today,
otherwise he would have been destroyed (lol)

Murray plays like a male lion who just woke up from a 23 hour nap on the plains of africa. He is worthless for the first set but then he gets ****ed and you dont wanna be there with him.

i'm not sure. it was Rosol that did so many errors he let Muzza gain control.
if it was a bit better player, Murray would have awoken too late.

How did Murray look, folks?

Still hitting weakly and getting tired?

Ya I agree. Funny though the one match Murray lost in the last two weeks is the one where he won the first set:) Now that is weird.

He got off to his usual slow start and had to let the first set go. Rosol was playing some lights out tennis in the 1st set though. Once he started to hit a few good serves and got some rhythm going, he just outplayed Rosol in the final 2 sets. He started moving Rosol about the court and forcing him to go for too much, the strategy which usually serves him so well.

Murray seems to be a player who has to slowly feel out his opponent first before deciding the best way to tackle him. This is especially true if he hasn't played the guy before as with Rosol.

Rosol hit more winners but Murray was, in the end, by far the better mover and that's what counted in the end, as so often with him.

Murray has a long way to go before he can match the GOAT of slow starts: Novak Djokovic.
Nole the GOAT of slow starts??? WTF? Of the top of my head Delpo, Tsonga, Post-2012 Fed and Berdych are all much worse starters then Nole.

Difference is, Djokovic actually fights for the first set. Murray just says pfft whatever, ill just switch it on for the next 2 sets and hope you dont maintain this good performance or ill crash out.

I sadly missed watching this match tho, too busy getting fustrated at JJ serving for the match and losing his serve and going on to lose the match in a TB. I know its pretty soon but are there any highlights online yet for the Rosol v Murray match?

If he keeps the slow starts, today could be Czech and Monday will be Czechmate. Vesely has weapons and a nice bit of momentum now...looking like what a top junior should be doing in his second year out on tour.

Sigh, stop taking things so literally. Tell me which one of those guys have taken as many heavy losses as Djokovic has in that time period? None. Djokovic has lost so many slam finals and so many tough matches at the masters level these last few years. Of course, it was the opponent who outplayed him, but his terrible starts only added to his misfortune.

Let's start with 2012
FO 2012- Lost the opening two sets to Seppi and almost crashed out in 4th round. In the final against Nadal, he was dumping groundstrokes and volleys into the net and smashing racquets on his way to losing the first two sets. He only got something going in the 3rd set because of the rain to be honest. It was one way traffic when the play resumed the next day.

Wimbledon 2012- Against Federer in the SF, the guy looked like he had never played on a grasscourt before and quickly lost the opening set. He kept slipping like an grasscourt n00b.

Cincy 2012- He lost the first set 6-0 and then woke up to play an extremely competitive second set that ended after a huge tiebreak.

USO 2012- once again, found himself down 2 sets to love before making a match out of it in a losing effort.

Wimbledon 2013- Got mugged throughout the match by Murray.

USO 2013- Played a horrible opening set. His celebration when he broke Nadal's serve for the first time was pure desperation.

To each his own, but in the 13 years I have watched tennis, I have never seen a player as great as Djokovic play so poorly in the opening sets of so many huge matches.

You could add in:

Shanghai 2012 final - lost the 1st set and had to fight off 5 match points before securing the title.

2013 AO final - lost the 1st set and had to fight to clinch a tight 2nd set before closing out the match in 4.

To each his own, but in the 13 years I have watched tennis, I have never seen a player as great as Djokovic play so poorly in the opening sets of so many huge matches.

As a matter of interest, the only times Djokovic won the opening set in any of his 12 Slam finals were the 3 he played and won in his peak year of 2011.

Hmm, 3 of 12. Djokovic well and truly is a slow starter. Look how he got blitzed by Federer to start with at the 2012 WTF Finals or how often he's won in 3 against Federer while coming from behind, for example.

I genuinely don't know what to make of Murray at the moment. He sounds really upbeat in interviews but plays like a man bereft of confidence.

I've watched every one of his matches since his return from surgery and he is yet to look anything like his old self.

Maybe I'm expecting too much. He says it will be clay before he's 100% again physically.

Just felt like highlighting this a little bit.

I've actually seen encouraging sings at Acapulco, at least.

Fair enough, but your examples are against great players.
Murray in Acapulco lose 5-0 to Andujar in the first set
yesterday Rosol, seriously? Rosol I like him, but he can be happy he beat one time in his career a top guy, he plays like a no brain really. Can't believe Murray can lose a set to him.

I was being hyperbolic with my statement. Disregard it. :) Djokovic has played so poorly in big matches for 2-3 years now that I was generalizing.

With Murray, I find you always have to try and read between the lines of anything he says. In his interviews, he is often upbeat and dismissive of any real problems he may be facing. I suspect he is still wary of putting too much strain on his back. This may account for his patchy serving and slowness to work himself into a match until it becomes absolutely necessary.

I've watched every one of his matches since his return from surgery and he is yet to look anything like his old self.

Agreed. I haven't yet seen anything of his 2012 and 2013 pre-Wimbledon form. As I said, he is playing cautiously and only attacking and hitting harder when he knows he has to.

Maybe I'm expecting too much. He says it will be clay before he's 100% again physically.

We'll see. Personally, I suspect it won't be until the grass season!

BTW, Isn't Lendl scheduled to be in Indian Wells? I thought he was supposed to be attending all the big tournaments ie. Slams and Masters 1000s? I didn't spot him at the Rosol match yesterday!

Lendl has only ever been scheduled to be at the slams and selected others, which are generally the pre-slam tournaments, as prep for the slam, and WTF.

He lives near Miami, so he's likely to go there, so long as it doesn't clash with his golf!

He was clear that one of his main reservations about taking up a coaching position was that he didn't want to spend too much time on the road, or for it to take over his life.
