What's the tennis scene like in Vancouver, Stanley Park Public Courts?

My wife and I will be visiting Vancouver and we'd like to get in some pickup tennis games. But not together of course : )

I heard there is quite a big tennis couple in Stanley Park. Does anyone know the good times to show up? Any suggestions for breaking the ice with the locals?

We are 3.5 and 5.0 levels.

Thanks!

I used to play tennis in Stanley Park about 15 years ago.
It is nice to play over there but the court conditions are not that great.
You don't have any problems to have a court in the morning.

When are you coming to Vancouver? Weather at this time of the year can be an issue as it's all outdoor courts at Stanley Park. The comment about the courts not being nice is a bit out of date as they have been re-done more recently.

We're coming in April (in about 3 weeks).

I saw on google maps that there were 2 sets of courts at Stanley Park - Lost Lagoon Courts or English Bay Courts?

Would you happen to know which one is better for pick-up tennis? Thanks again.

I don't play much at Stanley Park except for tournaments / league play.... having said that the Lost Lagoon location only has 3 courts if I remember right and they face back to back so a bit distracting to play in. The English Bay location has around 15-20 courts if I recall correctly. There is a lot more play at those courts and as a result a better chance to pick up some tennis. I wish I could give you more info on what the likelihood of finding a game there is - or what the 'scene' is like but I just don't play there enough and not at all on a drop-in basis. It's a beautiful setting though (again weather permitting).

Depending where you are staying I might be able to point you to other courts or clubs to try and get a game at.
