I believe Nike recently released retros of this

are you thinking of the air zoom trainers?

air-zoom-tennis-trainer-101.jpg

if so, I can tell you they aren't much like the originals. the old ones were 3/4, the zoom trainers are technically 5/8 height. doesn't sound like much of a difference until you put them on. I bought about 3 pairs to play in when they were retro-ed and I couldn't play in them because not only did they lack the support of the 3/4 version, they actually hit my ankle bone in such a way that actually hurt whenever I moved sharply. I am wearing them for daily casual use but even then I can't tie them too tightly or they hurt my ankles.

retro-fail!

Prince Rebel LS. Most important thing to me is fit. These fit me like a glove. The low ride and light weight is just a bonus. My only complaint is the sole durability.

Scratch everything I said.

I just got a pair of the Nike vapor tour 9's... Wow.. It's like a cloud that propels you through to your next stride. Easily best shoes I've ever worn for tennis. And got them half off, hate to see that :)

I wonder how the new 9.5s compare.. Are the Vapor 9 better for narrow or wide fit?

wish I got 10 of these (and 5 of all the other colorways) when they were still out...
long live the courtballistec 2.3!!!!

I still have a mint pair of these in the box because they never quite fit me right. I wear a size 14 so it's hard to really do anything when you buy a shoe, want to like it, and it just doesn't pan out.

I'm flat footed so my feet end up being a bit wider. They really are just incredibly comfortable right out of the box. Not much break in required but they seem surprisingly durable. I always wore cb's thinking they felt more durable but that air pocket thing in the back, I always wear the tread down and it 'pops' then it makes funny sounds when you walk.. Hopefully vapors are better.

Prince MV4.
Long time Prince user but these were the best I've tried. Superb cushioning (Bab SFX level, possibly better), ultra comfy yet supportive uppers, great fit.
Only downside is that they're full leather so not very well ventilated. Unfor they're no longer made.

The barricade 7's are the best shoes of all time. Such durability and great design and comfort. B8 is a huge step down.

But neither compares favorably with the Barricade 5.
The Barricade 5 is still the epitome of the Barricades.

What makes the 5 better than the 6,7, or 8? Does Murray still use the 5?

1. The fit.
2. The cushioning.
3. The stability.
4. The durability.
5. The comfort.
6. The breathability....in other words, everything

And yes, as a matter of fact, Murray went back to wearing his custom hybrid Barricade 5's made to look like Barricade 7's for Indian Wells.

And this is why they're back

I still remember my two pairs of Pirelli Johan Kriek, they were great at the time. Would probably feel heavy today i suspect.

Adidas Barricade 2

Ever since that version that series gets worse almost every year (with exception of the 5, it was not a bad shoe).

Now the fit is so poor (stiff, narrow, heavy) I wont even buy them anymore. I currently have a pair of 7's I received off a warranty claim on a pair of 6's and I HATE THEM. Blister my foot, fit way too tight, and in general feel like crap.

Adidas ruined a GOAT shoe.

Never figured out what foot was supposed to fit in these shoes. And so little cushioning. Had to buy a half-size larger. Mean the later Barricades, wish the shoes would just wear out but won't.

Nah.....B2 was crap. Second worst Barricade ever. The 6 was the only version worse than the 2.

Nike Zoom 2K11; perfect blend of comfort, speed, support and fit for me. Unfortunately the outsoles blew out too fast. Still looking for something that fit as good with the same fast feel as well as lateral support.

Some really old pair of Wilsons... bought around 17 years ago and lasted for about 5 years!! they really dont make 'em like they used to :/

Nike CBs 4.3 b/c they feel fast, fit like a glove, have lateral stability, great sole warranty (although it lasts less now then in the 2.3 model)- basically the best ballance between features and cost.

The main drawback being the shoe lace system that breaks, especially when supports starts to give say after a couple of months of usage...

I agree but only with the flaws lol. I thought they fit poorly and in about three weeks the air bubble in the back popped so it always makes an annoying sound when I walk. I only wear mine as casual shoes now.

Closest I've found is the vapor 9 (not the 9.5). The nine is softer, but still not like the 2k11's. Best shoes ever but the durability was crap. Like my coach used to say, you pay for the technology, not the durability. I used to run straight through the bottom in the big toe area in like a month or two tops :|

Don't know man, haven't broken an air bubble yet, in about 10 pairs...
As for casual shoes? Don't really like the colors or the stifness.. I walk in Asics gel tennis shoes around $40.

The Asics Gel Resolution 2 were the best I've ever worn. Tons of comfort and stability, and the width wasn't as wide as the resolutions are now. Never felt like I needed to adjust them or anything. Vapor Vs would have to be a close second for the super low to ground feel and fast ride everywhere on court.
