Tomic Arrested

Great comeback by the Aussies in the DC.
Bernard who?
Bernard Tomic, who put Australia in the Davis Cup Quarter Final by defeating Lukas Rosol in straight sets in Czech Republic and giving Australia an unassailable 3-1 lead.

Aussie got to QF because of Tomic.

Hewitt & Groth did not win a single match and had to rely on Kokkinakis and Tomic to be able to proceed to QF.

Bernard Tomic won 2, yes, 2 Singles matches to put Australia into Quarter Final.

Thanks for nothing, Australia.

How frustrating it must have been for you as the tie proceeded.
On Saturday after Lleyton and Sam won the doubles you would have been thinking that Australia still couldn't win.
Then when Sam won his singles it must have given you a sinking feeling.
Then Lleyton comes out and delivers a straight sets victory.
Ouch.
Poor fellow.
I feel your pain ... I really do. ;)

Love the fact that Hewitt is the responsible elder statesman of Aussie tennis today.
In his early days the public had a dim view of his bad attitude as well.

Just yesterday some private school teacher chided Tomic for not setting a good example for the kids he brought to Darwin to watch the tie.

He went through a list of Australian Davis Cup greats and missed entirely Philipoussis, which came as absolutely no surprise.

Suddenly, Tennis Australia is Begging for Tomic to Come Back??? LOL. Why so Fast???

In other words: Please Tomic, we are scared of Great Britain, can you please help us? [emoji13] [emoji13] [emoji13]

Tennis Australia president Steve Healy wants to speak to Bernard Tomic soon to address concerns

UPDATED TUE JUL 21 17:36:30 EST 2015

Australian tennis officials want to speak to troubled tennis player Bernard Tomic over his concerns about Tennis Australia.

Tennis Australia (TA) says it will reach out to Bernard Tomic in the next week or so to "clear the air" and hopes to have him back on-side for September's Davis Cup semi-final.

President Steve Healy said on Tuesday that TA was concerned for 22-year-old Tomic, following his arrest in Miami for failing to follow police orders to quieten down his penthouse party.

It came on the eve of Australia's Davis Cup quarter-final tie against Kazakhstan, from which Tomic was suspended after unleashing a verbal tirade against TA following his Wimbledon exit.

"We want to offer Bernard the opportunity to raise the issues he has raised, so we can address those with him," Healy said at opening of the new Tennis ACT Centre in Canberra.

"We think the criticisms are unjustified - he needs to hear that. He needs to get some detail, and we want to bring him back into the fold.

"I think the important thing to understand is he's had fantastic support from Tennis Australia and we want him to understand and appreciate that and then welcome him back into Davis Cup."

Tomic is currently in the Colombian capital of Bogota preparing to defend his Claro Open ATP title, which Healy conceded would make a face-to-face meeting difficult.

"But we want to take those issues off the table," he said.

Healy said he hoped to resolve the issues quickly, but said it was mostly out of TA's hands.

"To a large extent, it depends on how Bernard reacts," he added.

"We want to get Bernard and we want to have a chat to clear the air with those issues and get him back hopefully for the semi-final if possible."

Davis Cup captain Wally Masur, who along with TA chief executive Craig Tiley texted Tomic after the win over Kazakhstan, has said he is confident of having Tomic back in his team for the away semi-final clash with Great Britain.

Healy said he and TA waited until after the quarter-final to allow those playing in Darwin to put in their best performance without any distractions.

But the 3-2 victory came after the two youngest and most promising members of the team, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios, lost their opening singles ties.

Kyrgios was criticised for looking disinterested before and during his match and was replaced by Lleyton Hewitt for the reverse singles on Sunday.

But Healy said Kyrgios is "an incredible talent" who needs time to mature.

"I think it's really telling what players like Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray have said — the guy's a phenomenal talent and he's growing up in the spotlight," he said.

"Fame and fortune's come pretty quickly and we just need to give him a bit of time. He's an incredible talent, great for Australian tennis.

Hewitt was appointed Davis Cup captain too hastily: Healy

Hewitt was originally set to take over from Masur as Davis Cup captain after he retires from playing, but TA now says the position will be opened up to other candidates after criticism from former players.

In January, Hewitt announced he would retire after the 2016 Australian Open to take up the role, but Healy says after a discussion with former player Pat Cash earlier this year, it was decided to open up the application process.

"We had to make a pretty quick decision and put something in place, and looking back at that, we've said we think there should be a process," he said.

"The comments that have been made by Pat Cash and others are fair enough, and we want to give everyone a chance."

Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon champion, was a critical of the appointment of Masur when it happened.

"Happy for my old mate Wally Masur, but can someone at #tennisaustralia please explain the procedure for the Aus DC captain nomination?" he wrote on Twitter.

"Yet again it appears there was no application process, no transparency, no player discussion, no outsiders, just the secret hand shake."

And former doubles star Paul McNamee suggested he would be happy to throw his hat in the ring, tweeting: "Yes @TheRealPatCash nothing against Wally who's board member of Tennis Australia but you and a few of us would have liked to put our hand up."

He didn't chide Tomic - why would he? Tomic wasn't even there. He chided Kyrgios and said his behaviour was a disgrace and he should never be allowed to represent Australia again until he changed his attitude.

The police did mediate. They mediated the removal of the trespasser from the property. What right do they have to negotiate anything further than that?

Some of you don't get it. The police got involved because the property owner kicked Tomic out of the hotel and Tomic refused to leave. So, instead of the hotel forcibly removing him, they rightly called the police to enforce their rights.

There are Inkeepers laws to protect guests. If The W violated Tomic's rights, he can pursue legal action. If they didn't, Tomic should stfu.

They are indeed desperately negotiating Tomic's return and their thinking in kicking him out was indeed based on the 'wrong' idea that Kazakhstan would be a push-over.

TA isn't "begging" him to come back at all - if he misbehaves he'll be out again.
It's very simple - behave or else.
This is DC captain, Wally Masur...
"Would I like Bernie back? Yes, but there’s going to be conditions and that goes beyond me, it’s really a Tennis Australia board decision.
I don’t think Tennis Australia are willing to compromise what they stand for. They jeopardised their ability to win the Kazakhstan tie by not playing Bernie, so they made a strong stance. But everybody does their penance and Bernie deserves a chance to play Davis Cup again, so if there’s a solution, you try to find it. We want to work with the players and make sure that everyone who represents Australia is in good standing with the federation."

So they need Tomic but TA are screwing the Davis Cup team over by holding this stupid grudge

Don't know why they'd think so..

There's some pretty good players from Kazakhstan.

Kudos Tomic for being brave and not giving in to TA's dictatorship. I am standing by his view over TA and I am in the same boat as Olivia Tjandramulia, Akira Santillan and other young talents who are hard done by TA.

Bernard Tomic says there is no point in meeting with Tennis Australia over his comments about funding

LEO SCHLINK
HERALD SUN

10:00PM

BERNARD Tomic has rejected Tennis Australia’s invitation to broker peace talks, widening a rift unlikely to heal before September’s Davis Cup semi-final.

Responding to TA president Steve Healy’s offer to discuss the funding issues he raised at Wimbledon, Tomic said there was no point.

“Until I am satisfied TA is committed to funding the development of junior Australian talent, including my sister Sara, on a non-discriminatory basis, I do not believe there is any point in meeting with TA,” he said.

“It has been reported that Mr Steve Healy, president of Tennis Australia, would like to reach out with me with a view to resolving some issues that I have with this organisation,” Tomic said from Colombia.

“I would like to respond to those reports as follows.

“I am always ready, willing and able to play for Australia.

“It is my honour and privilege to do so. I consider that I have a good record and it is my hope to continue to represent my country.

“Importantly, I would like to thank previous TA administrators for their financial support in the past.

“Current TA administrators sacked me from the Davis Cup for comments I made at Wimbledon. I stand by those comments.”

Tomic, who was last week charged with resisting arrest without violence and trespassing after an incident at a Miami hotel, missed Australia’s 3-2 quarter-final win in Darwin after being sacked for criticising TA’s funding policy.

Despite a public outcry, he said he would not be silenced.

“In the meantime, I reserve the right to continue to speak my mind. My right to freedom of speech cannot be taken from me,” he said.

“Having said the above, I am always available for selection for Davis Cup.

“If TA select me, then great. If TA does not select me, then there’s not too much I can do.

“I will stick by my views.

“To my fans and supporters, please do not lose faith in me. Contrary to some self-serving reports, I am OK and strong.

“I have not hit rock bottom. Thankyou for your continued support. I know I need to work harder.”

Healy indicated TA wanted to resolve the impasse.

“We want to offer Bernard the opportunity to raise the issues he has raised, so we can address those with him,” Healy said.

“We think the criticisms are unjustified - he needs to hear that. He needs to get some detail, and we want to bring him back into the fold.

“I think the important thing to understand is he’s had fantastic support from Tennis Australia and we want him to understand and appreciate that and then welcome him back into Davis Cup.”

Healy conceded Tomic’s reaction to his dumping from the Davis Cup team was critical.

“To a large extent, it depends on how Bernard reacts,” he added.

“We want to get Bernard and we want to have a chat to clear the air with those issues and get him back hopefully for the semi-final if possible.”

Sara Tomic, 17, is ranked 641 in the world. She last week beat world No 111 Kristyna Pliskova in the Turkey Cup in Istanbul.

It sounds like Tomic is prepared to play as long as he does not have to play the game of meeting with TA cap in hand so they can forgive him for his trespass.

But it sounds awfully like TA want this face-saving grovelling from him so they can generously welcome him back to the game.

It's an impasse and they simply have to back down.

They penalised him by excluding him from one tie and he is now making himself available for the semi-final.

TA is not changing its policy so they'll just have to accept there are differences between them and Tomic that won't be papered over.

He was making himself available too for the first round and quarterfinal. He says he is always available for DC. It was just childish TA all along.

After all DC is not a big deal. Tomic can concentrate on his individual career and let the Aussie Knights and Warriors with their shiny golden armours ride on their high horsies and shed their tears, sweat and blood to a Davis Cup Glory [emoji191] [emoji191] [emoji191] [emoji191] [emoji191] [emoji191] [emoji471]

TA really sounds like an awful organisation

They haven't looked into Tomic's claims at all and are going to the media saying what he said is completely unjustified is so ridiculous, it would never pass in an actual corporate body. They should meet with him and discuss his concerns. Show him exactly why his comments are 'unjustified'.

Their organisation lacks any kind of transparency, and they expect him to just roll over and come crawling back just because they say so.

Next year when Hewitt retires and if Kyrgios remains constantly injured, they're really going to need him. They really don't sound like theyre doing the right thing by him in my opinion.

Looks like TA have realised that the unilateral appointment of Hewitt as Davis Cup captain wasn't the right way of doing business and some other people may have wanted to put their hands up:

When you do a bit of digging it's possible to find these sort of examples where there is no clear process and decisions/policy are being made on the run by Tennis Australia. Not a good look for people who are meant to be custodians of a sport, not operating like a nepotistic old boys club.

Yes, it's all Tennis Australia's fault - how dare it not direct funding to little Bernie and whomever else he decides should get it.
For the last time, the issue with Tomic was the lack of respect, I don't know why you can't get that through your head. The situation would never have occurred to Hewitt, Stosur etc. And gee they cut all funding to Sara. And guess what? Just a few days ago she won her first qualifying match against world number 111. A 17 year old girl ranked in the 600's knocked out the 2nd qualifying seed. Impressive! Sara has immense potential and they go and cut her funding cause of her dad? PETTY.
You clearly posted this to get a rise out of me, despite posting 7 minutes prior that you want nothing more to do with me. Your constant spam of hatred towards Tomic without acknowledging half of what I post is annoying. I'll help you out by chucking you on block from now on.

Tomic says he doesn't have a war with Pat Rafter.

Tomic says Pat Rafter is a good guy.

He has no war with him. He has a war with Healy and Tiley.

Rafter said Tomic has hit rock bottom.

Tomic said he did not hit rock bottom, he is OK and strong.

TA want to talk and reconcile or make a deal with Tomic.

Tomic says no.

Strong Tomic.

Yes, it's all Tennis Australia's fault - how dare it not direct funding to little Bernie and whomever else he decides should get it.
How dare Pat Rafter decide he's had enough of little Bernie's behaviour.
How dare Pat Rafter say he's interested in supporting those players we (Australians) can be proud of.
He's got quite a nerve.
He's also got the support of many, many Australians who are sick to death of little Bernard and his violent, obnoxious father.
Of all the people I pay tennis with or discuss tennis with I know of just one who is supportive of little Bernard - it's running about 25-1.
We all fervently hope dear old dad decides to take the clan with him and find a new country to infest.
Tomic already moved to Monte Carlo, so you don't have to tell him to leave Australia.

Probably you need to tell Tennis Australia not to be too desperate to try to talk to Tomic, or tell Tennis Australia that the whole Australia hate him to death.

Just FYI, Wally Masur and Tony Roche support Tomic, and they want Tomic back in Davis Cup. You might as well tell them to leave Australia for supporting Tomic.

PS. did you know that Hewitt move to Nassau? Did you tell him to leave Australia and find a new country to infest?[emoji13]

Nope, he is doing better than Groth in Colombia.

Speaking of "more room to fall" there is still loads of cash left for Healy&co. to splash around and do a free sky dive and take Australian Tennis with them to the bottom of the pit.

Easily the most ignorant line in the entire thread (except perhaps it's equal "LE don't choose which laws to enforce").

Though you would be a prosecutors wet dream on a Grand Jury.

Its funny how you can spoon feed people an explanation of a relatively simple legal concept such that a 2nd grader could understand the situation and THEY call YOU ignorant.

11/10 unintentional humor.

The cops were not there to mediate ANYTHING. They were called to evict. Period. The property owner had already decided they wanted Tomic GONE. That's their decision to make, it was final and Tomic's foolish refusal to abide by it lead to his arrest. The law ain't complicated here. The idea that the police should have talked the property owner into letting a belligerent guest stay is hilarious.
