The issue is not really on Novak's end IMO.
People just prefer Fedal for whatever reason, and because the majority of the crowd are Federer or Nadal fans, they're not going to cheer for Fedal's main rival, even if Fedal are not out there as well.
That's how most hardcore fans think, and they're the ones who mostly show up to the tournaments.
As for myself, I always give all players plenty of applause when I'm actually there.
I don't stay quiet for anyone (even Fed's opponents), as I consider that to be quite rude and disrespectful.
Whoever is playing, and whatever I think of them, both players are out there playing a punishing sport and (usually - looking at you, Tomic) giving it their all.
Doesn't mean I always like the result - sometimes I'm fuming, like Federer vs. Nadal AO 2014, but I was still applauding Rafa for his insane effort all the same.
I have never booed or whistled Fedalovic.
My hands hurt after those Djokovic/Stan AO matches in 2013/2014 though, sooo much clapping.
