Which Tennis Shoe Provides The Most Cushioning?

I'm a 6' 3" 230 lb. baseliner, and my feet really take a pounding. None of the shoes that I've tried have helped. Are there ANY shoes out there that can give a big guy cushioning, and support? BTW, I have a very high arch. Suggestions are welcome.

In my experiences, Reebok shoes with DMX cushion(like
Bonzer) and Addidas shoes with a3 were among bests.
Good luck....

I, too, am a big guy with high arches and I have found that the entire Fila line has very good cushioning and higher arches. I really like the US Open speed 2 shoes. Also the barricades have medium to high arches. Reebok shoes, as well as Nike, tend to have lower arches. I haven't tried the a3 but I bet their cushioning is good as well. The nice thing about the Filas and the barricades is that they have 7 and 6 month warranties on the outsoles, respectively. Bigger men tend to wear the shoes out a little faster. Hope that helps.

Reebok shoes with DMX are comfortable but are not durable. Adidias BIIs are as comfortale and more durable then the Reeboks. BIIIs from what I have read, are comfortable and durable as well.

Maybe try a custom insole? I should expand a little here.. I recently got custom insoles made by Sidas (www.sidas.com) called Conform'ables. Cost was £25 which can buy u a pair of shoes really but the benefits are truly priceless. I have a strange arch on my left foot (sort of two camel hump shaped) and shoes have never really fit that foot well. As I've grown older the left foot definitely doesn't take the pounding as well leading to not only forefoot pain but also shin pain from all the serving and volleying I do.

I wasn't sure the custom insoles would be any good but took the risk and I've got to say I wonder why everyone doesn't have a pair. The foot pain has disappeared completely and I'm now left with a pair of tired feet but both feet actually feel much better after a game as well. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Adidas Barricade II have thick midsoles, and really good cushioning (in my opinion).... Nike air Implosions have a nice springy feel due to the zoom air, but probably wont last as long...... durability vs. ride....

I'm not a big guy (5' 10" 160) but for whatever it's worth the most cushioned shoes I have ever had were the Adidas A3. However the durability on them were flat out unexceptable. I burned through them in just over a month and have since gone back to the Barricades.

Head Games are better than A3s. Nearly any Nike shoe with full length air is really plush.

I agree that the Head Games are very cushy, but they have a very low arch support. I've been playing w/ the Nike Air Resolve and I'm not impressed, stiff uppers that never get that broken-in feel, poor forefoot cushioning, and no arch like all Nike's. The Wilson DTS 02 is overall the most comfortable shoe I've used, if it had a little more cushioning it would be perfect.

sorry to dredge up such an old thread, but I am in the same boat as pushmaster was. i am 6' 3" and 230 lbs, plays more of a SV game and have recently developed achilles tendinitis. I currently use the nike BF2's they are great initially, but I pop the air bubble in like a month or so and then the cushioning is really bad. Are the new a3's any better? is there any other shoes with good heel cushioning anybody here can suggest for big guys?

I thought this thread looked familiar... The Reebok MDP's are the most cushioned shoes I've used to date. They are on the heavy/bulky side, but once they're broken in I really didn't feel it. Also, at $50 they're a great deal. I agree that the BF2's suck for cushioning, especially in the forefoot. The Prince MC4 seems promising, though I havn't tried them yet. I plan on buying them next, or maybe the Oscillate (due to great review/feedback of them).

You and I are around the same size, and I developed plantar faciitis a couple of years ago. I recomend Reebok Upset DMX, which has great cushioning and a nice toe for toe draggers. If you can deal with the funky color, TW is selling them in the white / shiraz color for $39 right now. I bought a couple of pairs (one in blue) since they've been discontinued. I also use a NB high arch insole which offers additional cushioning.

I also recently bought a pair of Reebok 3D Premire pro's, which like the Upsets have a nice wide forefoot. But IMO they do not have as good cushioning in the midsole, which I assume is because they don't have DMX.
Never tried the MDPs.

I have to agree on that... Im 6' 1" 178 lb. and had a horrible time with the cushioning of the adidas barricade II, but the Breathe 3 are great.

I was told, at one of our specialty sports footwear stores, that the very best shoes in regards to cushioning are Asics and Mizuno (neither of which they sold but were happy to recommend) and the worst support system is Nike (which they did sell).

Don't know if Mizuno make a court/tennis shoe these days but there are a few Asics models to choose from.

I would suggest Adidas Barricade with boost. My weight is similar to yours and I find these shoes extremely comfortable. The boost cushion is great, and the stability is top notice.

They seem to have the boost foam only at the heel though. I need cushioning in the forefoot where I have the pain.

That's just what I was going to say. I have the Barricade Boost, and while the heel cushioning is great, the forefoot cushioning is nothing special. Among the tennis shoes I've worn, the Prince T22 has the best forefoot cushioning, and heel cushioning is great also. However, my Adidas basketball shoes (D Lillard 2, and D Rose 7) both have better cushioning in the heel and forefoot than any tennis shoe I've ever worn. My favorite shoe for tennis right now is the D Lillard 2. The D Rose 7 has so much support in the ankle that it's a bit restrictive, but I use it occasionally as a recovery shoe. It has a substantially thick layer of full length Boost (more than you see on the Tennis Energy Boost), and the impact protection is incredible.

Another option you might consider is a cushioned insole with some kind of protection for the ball of the foot.

I also use a Cadence insert which adds additional support and cushioning. Using the Cadence insert did more to solve my foot pain than anything else. I've used those in Vapors and Barricades and they solved my foot pain problems.

I use New Balance Cross-Trainers for tennis - currently using the 623s and they work well for me. I used to wear aftermarket insoles when playing tennis (NB Ultra-Arch Insoles) and they really added a lot of cushioning but I find that I don't need them in my tennis shoes anymore - NB cushioning, at least in their Cross Trainers, has markedly improved over the past decade. I do use aftermarket insoles in my running shoes and I go through those a lot faster then my tennis shoes. I have used New Balance running shoes exclusively but I tried the Asics Gel Venture 4 and it has much better cushioning in a running shoe.

Nike Lunars at 6'2" and 230 on hard courts, Asiscs GR6 on clay, both with Dr Scholl's active insoles, not the stock ones!
Baseliner as well and an aggressive one...
