^^next step on the road to rehab...hitting on an actual tennis court. let it be soon..(how soon is now ?).

Heh, my coworker was at this fancy party for Lacoste in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and there was a tennis court on the property where Djokovic and other celebs were hitting a few balls. He recorded it with his phone, said Djokovic was a really nice guy.
It was at the James Goldstein house, google it, its an incredible house that has been rented out for many events and movies.

Nice one. Did your coworker notice how Djokovic was looking on court?

Agassi talks about Djokovic's injury:

"He's done fantastic work in making sure he's over his injury once and for all, which was a fracture in the elbow," Agassi said. "We'll know in a week from now if that's fully behind him, which is great. He's used the time [off tour] to train -- a lot."

So Djokovic is getting a scan next week to hopefully get the final okay which is great news. He also talks about the upcoming ATP finals and the player's chances.

Fingers crossed the scan will show great results. Man I miss him so much, this season has been dull for the most part and it's mostly because of his injury issues and absence.

I hope everything comes back good next week or better yet, I'm going to say it will. Let's speak it into existence. I miss him too and can't wait for his return because it has been dull this year without his presence.

Breaking news...The Worm to coach Djokovic alongside Andre...Czech media reporting it (not official yet) :)

I think I read it several days ago in English. :) Don't remember where.

Edit: here

A few weeks ago, the Serbian had given some facts about his future new coach.

'It’s a former player who had an enviable career and who managed to get the most from him at all times,' Djokovic said. 'Who was not no. 1, but was smart enough, wise and persistent to always give his 100%. By the way, it’s someone whose life values are in line with mine.'

Interesting choice.

Novak said they have been friends and only good things about him, very complimentary. I remember thinking about the parallel - Murray splitting with Lendl and Novak having a new coach.

Novak on Stepanek this Jan:

“I know Radek very well. He’s one of the best friends on the tour that I have."

“We know each other well. We practise many times. Great guy. Very interesting guy."

“He keeps on surprising everybody with his level of consistency in his game."

“I think more than anything is his dedication to the sport and willingness really to kind of discover new ways to get his body in the perfect shape."

“I think he’s very smart when it comes down to that. He knows exactly what his body needs from every point of view."

“He works as hard as any other guy out there, but he does spend a lot of time recovering as well."

“It’s important, and you can see that. You can see why he’s out there still competing on a high level. He’s been taking care of himself."

“As a result of that, obviously he gets a long career.”

Now reading them again I can see why he chose him (if the reports are true) as his coach. :)

It's a bit long, but a great article. I posted it on another thread but think it's worth to be posted again here:

Djoker's new man. Stepanek will lead the Serbian tennis hero

NOV 22 2017

Former tennis player Radek Štěpánek will soon become a coach.Together with American Andros Agassi, they want to pull back on top of Srba Novak Djokovic.

Just a week has passed since Radek Stepanek announced his career termination . And now, according to MF DNES and iDNES.cz sources, it is clear that the former world eight and the double Davis Cup winner will be joining a new job.

Novak Djokovic was involved with his current mentor Andre Agassim , who advised him in the spring on Roland Garros and then on Wimbledon.

The agreement was concluded, the official confirmation should follow in the coming days.

Rocket clowns have a similar sense of humor. "Steps" and "Djoker" coincide with the view of the tennis court as a theater scene or circus maneuver. They often trained together, and together they went to Melbourne together with Leonard DiCapri in the Revenance cinema in the lead role.

"There was a lot of blood and meat, which was not ideal for Novak, because he is a vegetarian," joked Stepanek .

He and Djokovic always talked to each other. The owner of the twelve Grandslam titles claimed that the Czech comrade was inspiring by his dedication and dedication to the profession.

After the January victory over him in the quarterfinals in Doha, in a conversation on the court, he said, "I have the highest respect for him. He does not stop fighting at his age. Thirty minutes later, in this wind and winter, he will still be on the mess. For so long he has been holding his toes. He's a super guy, he looks after himself. "

Retiree? Later
In less than thirty-nine, Stepanek decided not to risk a worsening of his medical condition after lumbar spine surgery and went to retirement. But he does not become a lousy retiree. He wants to help Djokovic, who has recently suffered an injured elbow, and a gradual loss of motivation and concentration after the Roland Garros 2016 triumph.

Will you succeed Radek Stepanek in the role of coach Novak Djokovic?

"Tennis has been my life for a long time and will keep me moving. I'll take time to look around. I will see where fate will lead me, "Štěpánek said on the farewell press in Prague.

Without engagement he did not stay long. In the past, he was interested in Australian Demon Nick Kyrgios . However, Djokovic, now the twelfth man of the ATP rankings, was given priority.

As Radek Štěpánek announced the end of his career on 14 November.

The Serbian National Hero recently told Politika who wants to lure to his team: "It's a former who hasd an enviable career. He was not the world's number one, but he was smart, persistent, and always gave his 100%. Moreover, his living values are in line with mine. "

New Mission: Resurrect Genius
Who is it? Stepanek! How the team around the Djokovic will work, Australian coach Darren Cahill, who once led Agassi and now commands Simon Halep, was quoted as ESPN commentary for the weekend.

Agassi explained to him that he was going to accompany Djokovic especially to grandslamas, while at other events he would be given the command of Stepanek. He is now with his former lady and current girlfriend Nicole Vaidis on holiday in the United Arab Emirates.

In spite of difficulties, his back can still cope with the role of the coach on the court. Eventually, at the end of the Australian Open 2016 in Serbian pre-match preparation imitated the style of Roger Federer and Andy Murray, Djokovic's next rivals.

Serbian art is admiringly admired. Last year, Štěpánek claimed that it was almost impossible to find any weakness in his speech: "It's pretty damn hard. I feel like he's not looking for a ball but the ball is looking for him. His genius is a wonderful reading of the game. "

The situation has changed. Djokovic's frenzy for tennis faded. It is the energy of a heaping Stephen who could resurrect him again. "We have met in the circuit for ten years, we have clashed in a lot of battles. Our relationship evolved, we understand ourselves on our personal side. It's an honor to be so close to the best player in the world, "he said.

He's going to be even closer now.

Djokovic: Agassi recommended Radek; Radek: It's an honor

The best Serbian player Novak Djokovic reveals that he brought Radek Stepanek into his coaching team after the advice from Andre Agassi.

13016126665a207a625bca5610970311_w640.jpg

He also sent a message that he can't wait for his return on the court with the new team.

"Radek is one of my best friends on the ATP Tour and his level of determination, passion and love towards this sport always impressed me. The fact that he only recently ended his tennis career, at 38 years of age, speaks enough about how much he was dedicated and how much he loved tennis. It's about a tennis player with big experience and knowledge, and he played at a high level for years. I am excited to join forces with him and I can't wait to compete again, with the new team that will support me", said Djokovic.

Stepanek and Agassi wil travel with Novak depending on their 2018 plan and the calendar of events that Djokovic still has to confirm.

"Andre advised me to contact Radek and suggested that he joins us, which is another reason why I am sure that the two of them will work excellently together. The new season has almost started, and a long road towards the return to where I stopped awaits me. We are aware that it's necessary to go step by step and that I shouldn't rush anywhere. I feel better and can't wait to play again", underlined Djokoivc.

Stepanek said that he can't wait to start with the work and to make a debut as a new member of Novak's team.

"It's an honor to become a new member of Novak's team. It's a new challenge for me, which I am looking forward to. I believe that as a team we will help Djokovic to achieve his goals. We have been friends for many years and I believe that our relationship can translate to the court in positive sense and that we will achieve the goals that both of us will be proud of", said Stepanek.

Interesting that it was Andre that advised about Radek, I didn't know that.
You Novak fans should start more threads!

I just watched the Boris Becker docu on Netflix, its great. First 15 min or so its something about Novak. I have to watch it another time, not sure of it was a little bit controversial or not, about why they ended the coaching deal. Its a very personal BB docu.

To me, Agassi doesn't know what he is talking about. Stepanek is just killing some time between dates. And Novak looks like a man with no fire nor majors titles left in him. Maybe a couple, but max, when Fed and Nadal are too busy polishing their trophies and Zverev, Thiem, and Kyrgios too busy getting their hair done.

What you think?
Noleeee has always needed an entourage that continually stimulates and motivates him. He is a seeker and thinker. It has helped him and hindered him on the court. I think this super group just might be everything he hopes. Might be even better than beckervic.

Unpopular opinion maybe (?) but I think Berkervic where great for each other and a failure to communicate / understand / prevent (?) the arm injury led to the break up:

- they both intensely wanted to win
- they worked obsessively hard to reach Ultron mode
- Winning endless matches during the Age of Ultron and/or the practicing that came with it led to the arm injury.
- Winning RG in conjunction with the arm injury led to Djoker's burnout
- Becker didn't understand the injury or the burnout and didn't grasp why Djoker didn't just hit the practice court and grind through it.

Becker got results and was a great coach but perhaps he pushed too hard and/or didn't have the communication necessary to adjust to the injury/burnout phase.

Massively agree. Becker was instrumental in his success. Now just to clarify I am not stating this super group will be as successful as that Super Group 1. This super group has a bit of a different dynamic it seems. Great tactical minds here with anDre and StepAnek. Also they like their practical joking and staying loose. Step is a cool cat and likes hamming it up. Agassi can be very cerebral when he needs. This is going to be interesting if it works out. Becker group fizzled out and Becker just did not figure out Djokovic's mind. He reached his goal while injured then Becker did not figure out how to deal with the injury. I think the pairing ran its course as well.
This new group should be able to stimulate him for good while. If Predicting at this time with all things considered he should be able to get to the finals consistently and compete for majors titles again.

I agree. I think what Djokovic liked most about Becker was that he knew what he was going through on the court and he had been there before, and I think having that moral support sitting in your box, a multiple GS champion and ATG, gave him that extra motivation and push he needed at the time. Becker was also pretty smart and had great strategies for the opposition. I think that's why he chose Agassi also, and especially since Agassi is champion who achieved most of his success when he was a bit older.

This is well said and something that I actually haven't thought about before. We knew Djokovic was struggling with some niggling injuries in 2016, and he was getting medical timeouts at the USO that year for the elbow and shoulder. When Becker was asked later that year what had caused Djokovic's struggles in the second half of the year, he said he wasn't working hard enough. It was clear Djokovic was struggling with some physical issues but Becker never even mentioned them or thought they were that important it seems. That probably is what ultimately led to the partnership ending in that he was trying to push Djokovic just as hard even though he was struggling physically.
