At an open tournament this weekend I managed to put up a lob that the opponent ran under-- so he got hit with the ball... I'm curious how common this is?

Ladies 2.5 doubles .... all the time.

High wind conditions ... could see it at higher levels ... and by high wind, mean over 25MPH gusting to 45 ... which is no fun to play in and weird things happen

I got hit by a lob.

I put a ball away at the net and the guy barely got to it and his shot was sailing out and high. I started walking to my bench and the ball landed on my head.

I don't recall actually being hit by a ball on a lob. I've misjudged a bounce badly enough that I caught it with my offhand in anger because I'd gotten turned around. Don't really know that I've seen it happen to my opponents, but I very rarely lob.

LOL you guys don't have ball sense
"Ball sense" sounds like something you'd want to make sure SafeSearch was turned on before Googling.

while scrambling back I've misjudged a lob's landing area and gotten grazed once or twice...typically when it's a flat out head-down sprint to have a shot at it...turn, take a glance at trajectory and go for it.

I've done it once this year. When I see a lob, first thing I do is turn and run in general direction trying to keep it on my left, then I look up to see where it will land and where I will intercept it. This one time, I got hit as I was trying to look for the ball...

I've seen it once, maybe twice but not 100% on that any more...my memory is crap at times. The only time I can remember was hitting a topspin lob...opponent read it off the swing and ran to track...just didn't get far enough to the side and took it on the shoulder as he spun around to hit.

it's happened to me.... ie. i turn away to sprint back because the lob was that good, and i fail to give myself enough space.
but i think it's been since hs since that's happened to me (ie. my 3.0-3.5 days). with more experience you get a better sense of where the ball is going, and can space accordingly.

I've seen it happen when someone is running back and accidentally run into the path of the ball so it hits them in the back of the head or shoulder. I've never seen someone stop under the ball, swing and miss the overhead, with the result that the ball hits them.

I have also seen a fly ball bounce off an outfielder's head and rebound over the fence for a home run. The guy was a well-known pro too. Who else remembers this famous play?

Played in high wind today .... steady at 30mph with gusts to 60mph according to weather folks.

Watched a pretty decent player get hit not with a lob but with a kinda floaty ball ... big gust came and drove ball right into him as he was lining up for a mid court volley. We all just started laughing. Playing in wind, #1 thing is to keep your sense of humor.

Ouch; that's gotta hurt [in more ways than one]!

I played in my first USTA tournament a few months ago. Other guy hit a lob that was going 5 feet out, and I started to catch it..then remembered I couldn't and lowered my hands. Ball hit me dead center, right between my moobs.
