Greatest mystery of the universe ??

Essentially, we have names for these "objects" and forces and we make predictions about them-- but we don't really know what they are.

For me,the greatest mystery is why we have to work for a living. Only a small portion of people on this planet are doing work that is necessary for society (teachers, doctors etc.) the rest are either too young or old to work or have to toil away at some BS of no benefit to society at large but of great benefit to the capitalists who get wealthier every day off the back of it...

How does anything exist? You can't create something out of nothing right? It's an amazing infinite question with no answer. If there's a God how was God created? What created God? And what created the thing that created God and so forth?

I like to think there's parallel universes and life out there. I'd love to hop on a spaceship and head out and see space. See other stars, galaxies, planets, aliens, etc.

95 percent of all stuff in the universe has zero explanation of what the hell its made out of

Dark matter is dark gravity and we cannot figure out what it is because it wont interact with anything

Dark energy could set off a new era of tech

The stuff you see is only 5 percent

This is by far the greatest mystery in the universe

No it is not.

Good luck with that

The idea that creation can occur ex nihilio has been around since the ancient Greeks. It's otherwise known as the primordial chaos.

It solves the problem of a beginning. The idea gets taken up in modern systems theory, computing and the like so that's another solution somewhat simpler than parallel universes.

Parallel universes has its problems but the idea of nothing suddenly begetting something is even more problematic.

I think we found the reason why Federer did not convert those championship points.

Nothing is a concept we apply to things, as is a parallel universe. The latter however seems the more speculative construct.

The rejection of the idea of nothing was one that was a result of monotheism and the idea of the creator god.

You didn't have to explain the existence of the latter, but when you think about it how did he even arise from nothing?

And as for parallel universes, where do they come from? How do you simply escape from the problem that nothing comes from nothing by that trick?

You can only do that by postulating that there was always a universe or two out there, so there was never nothing.

But isn't that what the concept of a primordial chaos does in a simpler way to envisage the never nothing as an inchoate something?

Parallel universes has its problems but the idea of nothing suddenly begetting something is even more problematic.

For me the greatest mystery is how not to need to work for a living.
If I find out, I hope it’s not too late to benefit from that.

The greatest mystery in the universe so far is how can the environmentally friendly ball bounce twice before encountering the Grand Poobah?

The greatest mystery of the Universe is why it exists at all or even whether it really exists at all.
Yes. Why do you think we exist? That’s the question.
I’m trying not to get too into this not to get into some existential crisis :censored: :X3::D
I often wonder if we are all just figments of each other's imaginations or if we are all living in some gigantic computer programme devised long ago by super-intelligent aliens which is still playing out.

The fact that we exist seems like a miracle to me. We come from nowhere and disappear into nowhere and yet, we accept it as is. Quite obviously it’s because we don’t have any other choice but to live and die.

That sort of replies like his, makes me understand how different people are, how different our brains can work.
what do you mean ?
not pretending that our 'brains' work the same way, but i actually had similar thoughts as @Mainad... which got me interested and led me to answer his post ;)
(... and to update his alien program)

back on topic... i consider big bang beyond the scope of my potential 'comprehension', so what puzzles me the most would be the 'origin of life' and 'thought/conscience-related processes' (which, for me, are not limited to humans).

Right now I have a bigger problem. Someone is here installing something in my bedroom. I need the bathroom. But it’s close to the bedroom and I don’t like anyone to hear.
Huge problems here.

It is a terrifying thought if planet earth is the only planet with living entities. Think about that, if we were the only one in there universe and this is it.

What created the universe???????????????

We know when it was created and banged but before then nobody knows !!
Maybe god created the all the matter and energy and set it in motion ...maybe it’s
Another great mystery of the universe:

Why do men have nipples???

I think it’s an evolutionary remnant and maybe is due to the whole human gestation cycle until testosterone kicks in

The human body is riddled with these remnants and bad evolutionary designs

Why the hell would the trachea and esophagus be so intertwined

man will always struggle for relevance and understanding in the universe, where there is actually little to none for them. It is a simple guise of mastery of something they will NEVER master, and the universe doesn't even care.

Your post was a cry for relevance from someone made up of matter that doesn't matter.

Exception: dark matter lives matter.

This has got to stop ... what is the matter with us?
