Grippiest rough string?

The diadem solstice and the black diadem one.....texture seems same to me as Pro Supex Black Fusion and Blue gear. Also Gosen Lumina Spin (terrible tension maintenance on Gosen, but it's cool string to try on sale). Gamma ruff (syn gut), It's like sandpaper...not sure if they still make it.

I’ve used Luxilon Alu Power Rough (16g) and I didn’t find it to be that grippy. I gave a set Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough (16g) a try and ended up buying a reel of it. Takes big cuts out of the ball and a reasonable priced string too.

I recently tried BHBR for the first time last week but strung it way too tight. Really want to try it again...the string felt very rough.

In my mind, there are rough strings, and there are shaped strings. Rough strings have surface features on an otherwise round string, while shaped strings are gear or square shaped. Is that a distinction you're making? Because I haven't really found much different spin due to surface roughness versus a round string, whereas there can be widely varying spin capability among shaped strings.

Yes, looking for a rough string for my crosses.

Typical string for me in the mains is a shaped poly like Cyclone, Solstice, UltraCable etc.

I want some grab from the crosses as well so looking for a rough string. Sometimes I hit very flat and almost let the strings slide horizontally off the ball, esp inside out forehands. I think rough crosses would be nice for those shots.

Hands down diadem solstice. Almost too grippy for me. IME I had to string it a little tighter than most polys. Fortunately it’s fairly soft and forgiving, so it didn’t bother my arm.

I tried many strings including yonex poly tour spin, rpm blast, alu rough, black code 4s, hyper g. The best bang for buck, pro kennex iq hexa 18g. Good bite, great tension maintenance, great playability in the 4th week, playing 4 to 8hrs a week. Still great control. Made in Taiwan, i suspect it is from the same factory as Solinco.

What shapes generate more spin?

That's kind of the million dollar question! In my experience, two of the three highest spin capable strings I've tested have been square shaped with very sharp edges, being Volkl V-Square and Grapplesnake Cube. The third string was V-Torque Tour, which has some really sharp edges in what are kind of keyhole shaped recesses in an otherwise round'ish string. Unfortunately, the two Volkl strings didn't last - I got just two to four hours before they wore through and broke, and Cube went dead and really changed playing characteristics at about the six hour mark. I haven't tried Ultra Cable, but there does seem to be something about the square shape with sharp edges that helps it to grab the ball when the contact pressure between the ball and stringbed isn't that high.

Where’d you get the BOGO deal?

I thought Tennis Warehouse had a BOGO sale a few weeks back. I was out of country at the time or I would have bought some, but then again the reel is so inexpensive that if you get 18 string jobs out of it, the cost each time is just over $5. This is an incredibly good string regardless of price, but at that price really can't be beat by any string.
