I know it's early but the qualifying has begun *There maybe withdrawals*

The Queen's Club is steeped in history with it's legendary participants like Sampras, Lendl, Hewitt, Connors, Roddick, Djokovic, Agassi, Nadal, Philippoussis, Henman, Federer, Murray and Wayne Ferreira.

Another year passes and we venture into the Grass Court Season, whilst being a rather short season it's always memorable and what better way to prepare than to play at the Queen's Club (Or Halle ;))

Who will win?

Looking forward to this......love seeing grass court tennis. I voted for Ernie just because of his recent form. Would be amazing to see him win here.

I think Andy has the best chance to win it, but I wouldn't discount Gulbis as well.

Murray is obviously the biggest favourite but if he loses early look for one of Gulbis, Cilic, Tsonga or Dimitrov to pounce.

edit: the bird is there as well? strong field

Murray is a favorite but not a big one, right now I think that half the seeds believe that they can beat Andy which was not the case in past years.

Would be cool if Hewitt won this.

Also, from 2000-2007 the winner was either Andy Roddick or the aforementioned Hewitt.

pame marcos !
(could face 1st seed wawrinka in the 2nd round)

he's already playing on grass: he'll play the final of the nottingham challenger tomorrow (against challenger-monster muller or matosevic). :)

Hewitt got a brutal draw

Lopez then Gulbis, should.make it to Gulbs, whether he can beat him is the question.

First Gimeno-Traver in R1 then F. Lopez then Gulbis. Oh and I highly doubt he is beating F. Lopez. Unlike most Spaniards, Lopez is a great grasscourt player with the ability to utilize S&V very well. Grass is probably his best surface. Hewitt is a shadow of his former self, it will be a very tough match if they both make it there.

Wikipedia's Draw -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Aegon_Championships_–_Singles

Tsonga could play Thiem
Murray could play Mathieu
Hewitt does have a stinker of a draw, Dan Evans and James Ward could face Anderson and Dimitrov respectively if they get through their 1st rounds (50%)

I think Gulbis, Murray or Tsonga will win this. Dimitrov and Wawrinka have had time to adjust to Grass after their 1st round exits at the French Open though.

Looking at the draw I predict a Tsonga-Murray final.
Both of them are strong on grass and both have been playing themselves back into form after a less then spectacular first quarter.(ignoring Tsonga's brainfart against Djoko last week)

Dimi and Gulbis could be (seen as) threats, but neither of them set the world on fire with their grass-court skills... (Statistically their worst surface--despite the fact that on paper, this should be Gulbis' best surface)
and Gulbis is due for a dip in form after a strong run at RG.

Bump. Grass court season has officially started.

I'm liking Murray to defend his title. He bombed in his FO semi against Nadal but I get the feeling he'll be good to go here.

This has to be one of the strongest lineups this tournament has had in a long long time. Does anyone know if the doubles matches are ever televised?

Watching Blaz Rola vs James Ward.

The winner plays Grigor Dimitrov

Over in Halle, Herbert has dispatched Janowicz in straights.

And still in Halle, Dustin Brown is averaging TEN seconds between points, currently up a set and 2-2 in the second.

That is because his endurance is crap. A real athlete takes 40 seconds.

Thanks for articulating this. Feli can be flaky, but he can also really play when he has his mind on it.

Tomic won his first match in 5 months!

....barely. He was down 4-5 in the 3rd set, and Smyczek was serving for the match. Not sure how he's gonna defend his 4th round points at Wimbledon.

Of the choices listed I can only see Murray, Berdych, Gulbis or Cilic winning this. Obviously someone like Hewitt who has a pedigree for grass is always dangerous and he could rise to the challenge as he did in Brisbane earlier this year. Seeing as this is the first grass-court event of the season it's players like Hewitt with a mass of grass-court experience who can be dangerous as they're seasoned to the challenges that grass poses where as some of the players with less success obviously haven't played as much on the surface as someone like Hewitt.
You can't count Wawrinka out as he'll obviously be out to prove himself after his poor showing at Roland Garros.
As for who I'd like to see win... Well, preferably Murray as I am somewhat patriotic when it comes to tennis. Then again, I'd love to see the Gulbis hype continue. For some reason I am sure his success will really bug some of the top players, especially after some of the comments he has made in the past, and due to the fact that he is clearly coming up to the peak of his career, which we don't know exactly how high he may rise to.
