Always a fascinating loss that one. Because for Istomin to get a wildcard for that AO he had to play the Asian wildcard playoff challenge (due to his low ranking), he made the final and was down 3 match points and on one of the MP's the ball was only 1cm out by his opponent. So many things had to line up for that breakthrough. Crazy to think if he lost one of those MP's in the AO Asia Wildcard Playoff Challenge, Djokovic wouldn't have lost in the 2R and who knows from there..

No way this is as shocking (arguably even as bad) as Rosol. The writing was on the wall for Novak since Wimbledon, and until his career collapsed the year before Istomin was at least a fixture in the top 100 for years.

I don't agree with your 1st point ma'am.
And while I do agree with the 2nd statement, I certainly don't think Djokovic 2017 would make it past the duo of Dimitrov + Nadal back to back at the AO to even reach federer.

True, but Nadal had played the final of the last 5 Wimbledons he'd played (and the previous 5 slams consecutively), not like he was a slouch. Also, Rosol was nobody, Istomin was a decent player who by that point was just a bit of a has-been.
