Does anybody know, or where to find who's the leader in 2nd serve aces and how many???

Or any information regarding 2nd serve aces. And/or if you know or care to add anything regarding this, feel free.

You won't find that data anywhere... but unfortunately, my instincts tell me the leader is Goran Ivanisevic, and not Pete Sampras.

Goran wouldn't surprise me as he had no fear to hit big 2nd serves. I don't think Roddick would come in high, cuz he does not tend go after his 2nd deliveries.

I would expect to see Sampras and Becker up there as well, cuz they would go for their 2nd serves. McEnroe is surprising, but he hit 3 second serve aces in 1982 Wimbledon final alone.

I would think Sampras has this title. I can't find my notes on the '00 AO SF, but it seemed like he served more than a few in that one. maybe krosero counted them in the '02 USO final.

I counted 2 for Sampras vs Agassi in the '99 Masters Cup final.

Also, I counted 2 for Mac in the '84 USO SF vs Connors(had 17 aces overall)

interesting question !
(you mean in a match ? over a year ?)

i remember when goran saved a match point with a monstruous ace on 2nd serve in the 2nd of wimbledon 1993... his opponent (bailey) couldn't believe it ! :)
(goran finally won 9-7 in the 5th)

It's gotta be Goran. He would often go for big second serves and we know the potential he had when really unleashing his serve bombs.

I have seen him hit a second serve ace on matchpoint against at Wimbledon, when playing Chris Wilkinson, an Englishman who could win the match of his carreer. As it is he will rather be remembered for the loss of it.

It's all relative... match, tournament, slam, years career. Whatever anyone knows. And I recall the Goran one down match point.

Sampras hit 4 second serve aces in the 2000 Aus Open SF.....
-4-6,3-1 0-30
-4-6,6-3,5-6 30-30
-4-6,6-3,7-6(0),6-6 2-2
-4-6,6-3,7-6(0),6-6 4-4

and 3 I know of in the 2002 US Open F
-5-3 30-15
-5-3 adv. Agassi
-6-3,6-4,5-7,5-4 30-0

I also know (and when) he hit doubles in 6 of 7 Wimbledon finals, and at leat 2 in '94,'95, and '99. Also others for Sampras if you(or anyone) cares to know.

yeah probably goran, because he would just go for 2 first serves and risk a double fault. so he probably led in second serve aces but wasn't anywhere near the top in 2nd serve points won.

I remember Joachim Johansson serving a 135 mph 2nd serve ace match point down.

Its on youtube somewhere. Lemme find it for you.

Edit: Here :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zeza9uvscI

That may be the hardest 2nd serve ace.

But I can count 15 second serve aces for Sampras in his 14 slam victories.....

1990 US Open F vs Agassi @ 0-1 (0-0)
1993 Wimbledon vs Courier @ 7-6,6-6 (2-1)
1994 Wimbledon vs Ivanisevic @ 3-3 (30-0)
1994 Wimbledon vs Ivanisevic @ 7-6,2-3 (40-15)
1995 Wimbledon vs Becker @ 6-7,6-2,3-2 (0-0)
1995 Wimbledon vs Becker @ 6-7,6-2,5-4 (Deuce)
1995 US Open vs Agassi @ 6-4,5-3 (adv. Sampras)
1997 Aus Open vs Moya @ 1-1 (30-15)
1997 Wimbledon vs Pioline @ 6-4,0-1 (0-0)
1999 Wimbledon vs Agassi @ 6-3, 3-2 (0-0)
1999 Wimbledon vs Agassi @ 6-3, 6-4,6-5 (40-30)
2000 Wimbledon vs Rafter @ 6-7,7-6,5-4 (0-0 or 15-0)
2002 US Open F vs Agassi @ 5-3 (30-15)
2002 US Open F vs Agassi @ 5-3 (adv. Agassi)
2002 US Open F vs Agassi @ 6-3,6-4,5-7,5-4 (30-0)

These are the ones I know of. But I haven't checked 1993 US Open F vs Pioline, 1994 Aus Open F vs T. Martin, 1996 US Open F vs Chang and 1998 Wimbledon F vs Ivanisevic, as well as his 4 losses

But the highest I'm aware of in match is 4 in the 2000 Aus Open SF vs Agassi....

@ 4-6,3-1 (0-30)
@ 4-6,6-3,5-6 (30-30)
@ 4-6,6-3,7-6(0),6-6 (2-2)
@ 4-6,6-3,7-6(0),6-6 (4-4)

Right now the most in slam final is 3 (McEnroe 1982 Wim F vs Connors and Sampras 2002 US Open F vs Agassi), unless some knows different.

NO. It's Sampras not Ivanisevic. Ivanisevic had more aces but not on the 2nd serve. I applaud a few who are remembering that 2nd serve ace at Wimbledon but that was a freak serve that showcased Goran's head problems more than anything. He went for a flat first serve down match point because he was losing it! Not because he was super confident, or had nerves of steel! lol.

i think i've watched a sharapova-dementieva match in wimbledon wherein dementieva hit an 86 mph 1st serve that missed, and then fired a 108 mph 2nd serve ace; the only occassion i've seen that a 2nd serve is much faster than the first serve.

I don't know what the statistics are but I would say that Sampras would be the leader. His 2nd serve was essentially a very good first serve (for anyone else) and he aimed for the corners and lines just like he did on his first serves but because his technique was so sound and he was very mentally focused it wasn't as risky as it could have been. Goran had a good second serve and did hit second serve aces at times but even though his technique was also sound his mental state wasn't always there and it would contribute at times to him double faulting instead of hitting either a second serve ace or even a great second serve.

Recently, Federer served 4 aces in a row against Sampras to take a game at the exo he lost. 2 of those were second serves.

I think now Federer will start going for bigger second serves, because he certainly can. Before, he was getting the ball in play and then winning the rally. Now he's not 24 anymore, so he wants even more free points.

It's got to be Mark Philippoussis. that guy did not have a second serve - it was just a second first serve for him.
