Shaun “defense wins championships” Gayle has just announced his bracket on Sky Sports.

Baltimore v Chicago is his SB, Bears winning it all.

Once an 85 Bear, always an 85 Bear.

Playoff experience is very important too and the Bears have none.
Look for the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles to dispose of the Bears tomorrow.

Seattle could have easily won this game. My God what unimaginative play-calling. What is Pete Carrol thinking??
After it became quickly obvious that running game was going nowhere., he needed to design some plays around Russel's incredible scrambling and passing skills.

You and I needed Dallas to go for 2-PAT and convert on their last TD. I’m surprised Dallas/Garrett didn’t do the math and figure out that without Seabass available Seattle was going for 2 if they scored a TD. They already did that once.

How does a team not have a backup guy for PAT's? Even with the new rule moving it back 10 yards, PAT's should be easy for any punter or athlete with a little practice.
Shocking to see Seattle go for 2 with 1:30 left and down by 4. The correct play is to cut it to 3 with a PAT and then pray for onside kick.

As a Seattle fan, that was frustrating and painfully obvious real-time to anyone watching (except Pete and Schotty, apparently).

Their punter, rookie Michael Dickson, is their backup and he’s an All-Pro at his specialty but very green at place kicking. He was attempting to use skills he developed as a promising Aussie Rules junior before specializing in American punting to earn a full scholarship at the University of Texas, where he was a consensus All-American. His drop kick attempts in practice before the second half were sketchy at best so that’s why Carroll chose to go for two on both TDs. They wouldn’t have been behind by just three before the second 2-PAT if they hadn’t succeeded on the first so I don’t fault that decision.

The real problem is why they let Hauschka go a couple of years ago over a few hundred thousand dollars. They tried and failed with Blair Walsh in 2017 and then dumped Jason Myers in the preseason in favor of oldie Seabass. My NY Jets quickly snatched Myers and he had a great year (33 of 36 FGs and 30 of 32 XPA). On top of this injury, Seabass got whacked in one game down the stretch and that pressed Dickson into duty prior to tonight with not so good results. This was a fiasco waiting to happen.

I’m not sure what to make of Dickson. He’s a promising punter, but his obsession with drop kicks makes me cringe. I’ve seen him do it on kick offs before, one went straight out so was placed at the 40, another the returner had to sprint to the 20 to get it on the full, he miss-hit it at the end of the game today.. that’s a pretty bad list considering it’s a small sample size.

Anyone who’s played rugby knows how difficult drop kicks are. There’s so much timing and luck involved, the way the ball bounces, the patch of turf it lands on.

Sure it’s a fun talking point and you don’t see it often these days, but It’s not necessary and has hurt the Seahawks a few times this season.

Ravens-LAC game is pure whack. LAC has forced 3 fumbles, 1 pick, had two great kick returns and nets 12 points off all of that? Then the Ravens match their futility with a FG and a missed FG off a turnover and a short punt??? Tucker is supposedly automatic (GOAT kicker label) but a rookie is outperforming him today.

Refs (including replay ref) absolutely horrendous today. Even if not a touchdown, how was that ball not spotted on the 1 inch line? Hardballs better get Flacco in quick.

Eagles had the Bears stopped on fourth down. Stupid unnecessary personal foul after the play keeps the drive alive and Bears tie the game at 3-3.
More stupidity as Eagles assume pass was incomplete and fail to jump on the fumbled ball. How do you not jump on the loose ball??! Again leading to another Bears FG.
Ugly dumb playing by Eagles. :(

The second FG doesn’t happen if the Iggle DB wasn’t Roberto Duran in the end zone.

Eagles up 10-6 heading into fourth. Still anybody's game.
I look for the experience of the Eagles to kick in assuming Foles does not get pressured and get careless with picks.

Both teams gone and one on another upright and a crossbar to boot!

That’s why it’s called football, no? In this case, maybe inchball would be more appropriate.

How many times are teams gonna go blow games with the idiotic prevent defense? 50 seconds left. Bears down by 1 and just need a FG to win. Just live and die with your normal pass defense.
Instead, Eagles let them easily march down the field for the game winning FG try. SMH.

Yeah, I thought the same. Was quite surprised Chicago was even in position on that last play, and the LAC-Baltimore game had no business being that close.

Chicago was easily in position thanks to the prevent defense that gifts them 20+ yard pass plays. Bears had an easy 43 year old kick. Should have won this game.
Wonder if the Eagles coaches would have caught any heat for that prevent had the FG been good. Doubt it, as the prevent seems to be some kind of sacred cow that nobody ever criticizes.

Don't see how the Eagles beat the Saints, but I went 1 for 4 this round so......

Guessing the Eagles are gonna be huge underdogs against NO. Maybe double digits. Will likely get blown out.
Bears and Dallas would have given NO a better game.

THE DOUBLE DOINK

I was thinking it was gonna go over the crossbar after the upright deflection. I've never seen a FG hit the upright and then the crossbar and then go over. But this one almost did.
Credit to coach Pederson for calling time out just as Parkey easily drills it through. Makes him kick it again. Cruel.

Prevent D sucks but it was the kickoff return that really killed us

He broke a few tackles on the run. Tip your hat and don't mind giving that up. Think they started around the 40 with 45 seconds left. 30+ yards away from FG range. Still very stoppable for the defense.
Prevent defense easily gifted them the rest.

Don't think Dallas is particularly good tbh. I was very surprised they beat Seattle. Though I do think they have a shot against the Rams if Goff has another bad game. Otherwise though, they're toast. And as good as the Bears defence was, I still think they wouldn't have had the offense to really hang with the Saints. Best shot to beat the Saints now is the Rams I think, but I have NO in the SB. Still no idea who comes out of the AFC. I don't think it'll be Indy regardless of the magical run, but it could be any of LA, NE, or KC IMO.

Plot twist! Parkey's missed FG might have been tipped! o_O
Hope so. Poor guy was getting loudly booed by Bears fans .

I won't say anything technical to try sounding like an NFL expert here (clearly I'm not), :D, but the Eagles need to put up at least 28 points to win next week, probably more. And preferably they need to go up 7-0 early. If the Saints go up 7-0 and the crowd gets involved it'll only get worse.

And defensively I'll say they need to stop the run or any screens designed to get YAC yards. Saying the Eagles need to pressure Brees and contain the passing game is obvious. I always find with the teams that have great offenses it's actually the run or anything short yardage on the pass that needs to be stopped first because if you let the Saints or any other great offense beat you with their second best weapon you'll definitely lose.

The key to making Goff have a bad game is stuffing the run and Dallas has the second best run defense left in the tournament now that Chicago and Baltimore lost (NO first). LAR is by far the most play-action offense in the league. That being said, if Gurleyman is healthy the new two-headed beast of him and CJ Anderson will bang enough to make Goff’s job easier. Dallas won’t shut them down as thoroughly as they did the Seahawks. I’m leaning towards LAR and the cover/over if it’s -7 or less and 50. There should be a lot of offense because LAR are mediocre vs the run.

Saints vs Eagles is a rematch of a blowout but before Wentz was “sidelined.” It’ll be closer but Brees will decimate that piecemeal secondary.

With the two WCs winning in the AFC, it’s LAC traveling to NE and something has to give...every time the LARivers have boarded a plane this year they come home with a W; no one traveling to Foxboro has come home with a W. I like LAC to pull the upset.

Going home field at Arrowhead for the KC Mahomies. Captain Andrew Luck will be sending a sad note home to dearest Mother. Highest scoring game of the weekend.

Needless to say I'll go with LAR next week, Also agree on KC and NO, but I'm leaning towards the Patriots. NE looks a bit shakier this year than most, but I have a hard time picking against them at home (even though I want them to lose every game they play), and after a bye.

Bears totally shut down Eagles running game. First and goal from the two and Sproles was stopped dead twice by Mack. One of the greatest goal line stands I've ever seen. Surprised Pederson went to Sproles the second time as he was going nowhere the whole game. Don't think he would have gotten in from the two even with four tries.

It gets even worse against the #1 run defense New Orleans. This could be very ugly unless Eagles get a new strategy. Can't rely on Sproles.

OTOH, Foles and Jeffery are a very exciting combination.

A dub doink pads that stat. Trubisky did not lose that game and actually outplayed Foles.

Trubisky had 4 dropped interceptions and scored 1 TD against one of the worst secondaries in the league. Foles drove the length of the field and won with no running game against the No 1 defense in the league
