A Djokavic hypothetical

We've all speculated before on how ridiculous Federer's numbers would look if Nadal hadn't been born.. 20+ slams, at least 2 calendar year slams, 320+ CONSECUTIVE weeks at #1, 30 masters shields, etc.


But I haven't seen this one done.


What happens if Djokavic hadnt' been born?



My thoughts:

Nadal has 13 majors... he gets 2012 AO, 2011 Wimbledon

Federer wins the 2008 AO and we get 2, Fedal USO finals.. 2010 when Nadal was playing out of his mind (i'm guessing Nadal still wins that) and 2011 USO - which could've been an extremely interesting match, but I'm guessing Federer would've won that with Nadal leaving his uber serve at home.

Also I'm guessing Federer would've had a 70% chance to win the 2011 AO.

So, Nadal gets 2 Additional majors, Federer gets 2 more AO's (making 6 in a career) and a 6th USO and has 20 majors.

Nadal gets 2011 US Open, 2012 Australian Open, and 2011 Wimbledon, which brings him to a total count of 14 majors, equalling Pete Sampras.

Federer might not have won the 2008 Australian Open given his form during the tournament, meaning that Jo-Wilfried Tsonga would have had about a 40/60 shot at beating Federer had the hypothetical match went to five sets.

So, Tsonga could have won major. But, so could Federer.


So, it could have been:
Nadal - 14 majors.
Federer - 18 majors (maybe).
Tsonga - 1 major (maybe).

Federer played Djokovic harder than Nadal did at the US Open 2011, I'd called it 50/50 for that one.

Djokovic had a mental hold over Nadal, Nadal had/has one over Federer.

Yes, I think Djokovic has driven Rafa away from tennis( one of the reasons). All those defeats to him have taken away Rafa's belief, motivation and passion). Djokovic has broken Rafa mentally.

Nadal is just making sure he's healthy for his clay sweep next year. I don't think he's gone (entirely) just yet. Just partially.

Did I say I was his Dr? No!. Rafa has played for many years and made lots of sacrifaces as the other players so he may be extending his rest. That is a theory only! You don't need to agree, do you?

Apparently Nadal started light practice in August.

Passion? That's not passion when you "leave tennis" after you get repeatedly spanked by your rival for the first time in your career. Passion is what you see with Federer - so many heartbreakers, matches lost, he's got absolutely nothing to prove to anyone yet he still competes hard, I mean don't look far - take his match against Del Potro in Basel, kept fighting with what he had (just a good serving day and nothing more) to the very last point.

Nadal compared to Federer is a wimp who "was motivated" as long as he kept winning. Federer's losses to Nadal took their toll on him but he never gave up. What would Nadal do if he lost an extremely tight 5-setter in a FO final, a hypothetical compared to Federer's loss at Wimbledon in 2008? I'm sure he wouldn't've left tennis for 6 months, though...

Nadal has had a perfect career until recently when Djokovic starting whooping him in every match. Let's see how much he "cares".

Oh well! None of these guys are going to be around forever! So enjoy them before they leave. Fed is still going strong, so smile :). As he is very passionate! and super motivated! :). As I have said before his fans are LUCKY!. .

to be fair to Rafa.. he DID just win the FO two matches prior to his final match of this year... so he should've been on a high and viewing the Rosol match for what it was, a fluke that should be admitted and eliminated.

Move on from it.. I dont think this is about Djokovic, but rather about Rafa being unwilling to put his body through it anymore.

I certainly sympathize.

It's funny how you guys claim Nadal lost his "passion" when he was actually starting to turn things around with Djokovic. If he had been out-of-action after the AO loss, your theory would make sense. But considering Nadal won all of their last few matches, your theory holds no water. At all.

Nadal taking half the year off after his injury is healed shows "lack of passion".
