After 2014 French Open, who would have predicted for Nadal and Federer

After the 2014 French Open, Nadal had won his 5th consecutive title there, he had won 3 of the last 5 Grand Slams.

Who would have predicted that he wouldn't even reach a Grand Slam semifinal for more than 2.5 years until the 2017 Australian Open. Then he would win 2 of the next 3 Grand Slams.

After the 2014 French Open, Federer had not reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam in 4 of his last 5 Grand Slams. He had won just one Grand Slam and reached another final in his last 17 Grand Slams.

Who would have predicted that he would then reach the semifinals or better at 10 of the next 12 Grand Slams he played, winning 3 titles and reaching another 3 finals.

Insane IMO

Goes to show why the prediction threads are completely pointless.

I think it goes to show that these players defy historical trends, defy rational thinking, defy everything.

Federer at 32 losing to Robredo at the USO, injured, serving meekly, no ground game...all signs, ALL pointed to the end as it has for every player before him. Maybe, MAYBE he could pull off one last run at a slam, but to see a 36+ year old a few matches away from #1, winner of three of the past four slams he’s played, winner of 29 tournaments (15 either slams, 1000 events, or tour finals) after turning 30, slams, slam finals, slam SFs all over th place after turning 34...

We’ve never seen a turnaround like this for a player who had been great, had been at the top of thr game for so long, lose it, have a year like 2013 and come back like this at 36; it’s unprecedented and seemingly impossible.

2017 was the most incredible year for Rafa and Fed fans imaginable. Fed fans need to stop throwing barbs at Nadal fans and Nadal fans need to stop throwing barbs at Fed fans. Instead, we all need to enjoy this impossible run. It wasn't that long ago that Djokovic was owning both of these players. I.e, things could be far worse.

It is going to be extremely interesting to see how Djokovic rebounds here. I hope that we get one more year where all three of these guys are in beast mode. The closest that we have seen is in 2010. Hopefully, Nadal and Federer are still healthy by the time Djokovic scrapes the rust off. Because if they are, we are in for some incredible tennis. But that window is tiny.

Yeah its crazy. Don't know who I am more surprised by. I was confident Fed would be bouncing back as 2013 was due to injury but obviously didnt think he'd bounce back like this in the slightest.

I think you meant 2011 or 2012?
