Agassi back on the Davis Cup Team next yr??

Just read at the BBC News website that P-Mac's gonna make a strong push to get Agassi back on the Davis Cup team for next year. If he could get both Agassi and Rodick committ....man, that'd be devastating combo. I honestly couldn't even imagine a scenario where that team could lose (although crazier things have happened in Davis Cup). Here's the link for anyone interested: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4071567.stm

I think it's just a hyped up story after the defeat. PMac has been asking Agassi every year and he's been rejected every year and will continue to be rejected. Agassi has his eyes on the Slams.

I agree. It's just wishful thinking by PMac. Agassi is in the stage of his life that Davis Cup just doesn't mean anything to him now. I tell you what, PMac is surely disappointed that his son...uh, player, Roddick lost both matches. Some may say it was unexpected. I totally expected it. Roddick may be good but all of his power gets negated on the clay and I think that the Spanish Armada figured out a way to beat him. Actually, they just played their game and won. Simple.

Yeah, well next time they play Spain I think they get to choose the surface, so really it isn't a likely scenario for next year.

What's with MacEnroe? Why isn't he looking at re-building the team instead of trying to get a 35 year old man to try to save the team ( no way Agassi is going to fall into that trap). The Us team is without hope unless there is some tennis develpment of juniors (which includes a real commitment to tennis by them whoever they are) NOW for success after P Mac is long gone. Right now, forget it. They'll get outplayed by just about any country.

The next time the US plays Spain it'll be in the US. This means it'll likely be on very fast hardcourts or grass. A loss to the Spaniards will not be expected.

I agree that McEnroe should build for the future. However, I think saying that they'll get outplayed by just about any country is a bit extreme. For example, they'd easily win against the tennis powerhouse country of Canada.

P cat, I think US team is pretty good home team at the moment. If they are not hosting then most of the time they will play on clay, but there are handful of nations I can think of that are stronger than US team overall.
I think Argentina, Chile, Spain at home are the strongest. Australia is very tough on grass. Team Federer is dangerous..
And I think Russia will be strong in 2005. That's about it.

Don't discount Canada . Our famous doubles player Daniel Nestor beat Rios to complete the win over Chile 3 years ago to get Can. into the world group. (Rios said he was embarrassed to have lost to Nestor, who is actually a good singles player but has a shoulder problem he so cleverly went into doubles)
