Agassi will retire?

I'm a big fan of Agassi and have always enjoyed watching him play. However, after the Federer match I fear this may be his final year. I still believed that he could win another major, but now the draw has to fall his way for that to happen.

The truth is a guy like Federer didn't have to play nearly his best tennis to beat Agassi. It was shocking to see Federer raise the level of his play whenever he wanted to, especially at critical junctures of the match. Agassi was trying to raise his game, but couldn't come close. He had that look of frustration/desperation/helplessness on his face that he used to get when Sampras was in the zone.

I think that reality will not be easy to accept for Andre. I'd love to see him stick around, but he won't if he doesn't believe he can't win a major. His window of opportunity is closing fast. I believe that by the time US Open is over everyone....even Andre will now it's over.

I don't think it's anywhere near over for Agassi. Look at Federer's previous matches at IW. Who came close to giving him a match except Agassi? Truth be told, Agassi sticks that volley at break point in the 3rd and he's won the match.

Agassi may have seen his best years, but he's far from a memory; unless he wants to be.

Every player eventually retires, that's a fact of life. However, right now Andre has no reason to contemplate retiring. So far, he is the only man to give Roger a match. So what he didn't beat Roger? Roger is the best player in the world right now, and truth be told, he would probably beat Andre Agassi in his prime. Andre can beat most players with his game, but an all-court attacking player like Roger Federer and Pete Sampras, when they are on, will always beat Andre because they go for their shots and hit winners. That's the only way Andre can lose a match. His opponent has to hit more winners than him. There is no shame whatsoever losing a match to Roger Federer. This man is something special. Barring injury, this man will earn his place in the record books, and he should be wowing us for 10 years to come. Roger is the type of player that comes along once in a generation. We had Pete, now we have Roger. The man can win when he is not at his best, and can raise his level on demand. He can hold his serve and his nerve. These are the attributes of the great ones.

Agassi barely got beat. In the third set he was up 40-15 on his serve. Then Agassi made a newbie error. He had a easy winner to take the game and hit a slow paced ball in the corner. He assumed Federer was out of the point and sort of walked away thinking he won the game. Well if you saw the match you would know that Federer ran his butt off and got to the ball and hit it right at Agassi. It was another easy volley but Agassi was caught off gaurd because he thought the point was over.

That mentally broke Agassi. If he won that game it would have been a tie breaker and possibly Agassi would have broke to win the match.

Hardly a blow out.

Federer is very good but he still has a ways to go. Having trouble beating an older Agassi is nothing to brag about. Agassi still has some gas in his tank. He barely losses and people think he is washed up.

Actually Fed rifled a passing shot down the line and Agassi was slow to react and defected it long. You really got to focus when your up against Fed as the point isn't over until the ball bounces twice. Boy does he cover ground or what?

As long as Agassi is close to winning some of these matches he will always have a shot at winning a slam. The last few he has played with everyone and had shots at winning the semis and has just fallen short. He is a force to be reckoned with for a few years still.

It may have gone down the line but Andre was standing on that side of the net. It was not that hard of a volley he botched it bad. A net player would have put it away. My point is Andre blew an easy put away. I give Roger credit for the hustle, never count your chickens before they are hatched when you play that guy.
