ALL VOLKL TOUR 10 MP USERS: Past and Present

What do you like and/or dislike about the Volkl Tour 10 MP? How does it compare to other racquets you have used? What were you using before switching to the Tour 10 MP? Why did you make the switch?

If you're a past user of the Tour 10 MP and now use something else, why did you make the switch and what do you use now?

If you have used the Wilson PS 6.0 95 and/or the Wilson HPS 6.1 95, how would you compare those two sticks to the Tour 10 MP? Is it possible to switch from one to the other?

Thanks

Hey, what happened to all the Volkl Tour 10 MP users out there? I thought this was one of the most popular racquets around (or at least on this board). I mean TW calls it a "Best Seller".

I appreciate any comments you can provide (see above).

(BTW, I an NOT referring to the V-Engine version). Thanks.

I used the 300G before the Tour 10 MP. Still like the T10MP but it had a bit of too much power for me. The upper hoop of the racquet flexes quite a bit, so if you want to control the ball better it is best to string with a stiffer Main string and a softer cross string. Nice and stable racquet overall. Compared to the Wilson 6.1 95 the racquet has a much bigger sweetspot. Switching from one to the other should be easy. I am currently playing with modified Head LM Prestige MPs. I can string them lower, and I prefer the Prestige for volleys.

actually the upper hoop of the tour10mp is where they stiffened the frame. it's much firmer in the hoop than say the c10. i use these and love them..i've modified mine. just do a search on this frame on this message board and you will find all types of posts and info some accurate and some not so accurate. i suggest that you didnt get many responses because your questions where very broad,,,,,also suggest that if you are interested in this frame, that you take one out for a spin sometime. ed

I had been using the Volkl Tour 10 MP this past year, and liked it very much. I thought it was a very comfortable and solid racket. However, I did just this past week switch rackets to the Dunlop 300G! Why? Well... I felt the Tour 10 MP was a little heavy for me. I realize it is considered "light" by many players on this board, but I found it a little heavy. I was looking for a slightly lighter version of the Tour 10. Based soley on specs and comments from this board I tried the 300G. The 300G definately has a different feel then the Tour 10 MP, but I like it and am making the adjustments. With the 300G I feel like I can generate more racket head speed, and maybe more topspon on my forehand. Just a bit easier to wield around, but it does sacrifice a bit of the stability I was feeling with the 10 MP.

If Volkl ever comes out with an 11 oz version of the Tour 10 MP, I would love to check it out.

KingBugsy,
You should try either the new Volkl Tour 10 V-Engine MP or the Mid. Although they both are spec'd at 12+oz., they both swing MUCH lighter than the older Tour 10 MP. In fact, the new V-Engines feel more like 10.5 oz. sticks to me. Way too light for my tastes.

Switched to V-T10MP about 3 Months ago after demos of Prince Tour NXG, Head LM-Prestige and V-T10MP. Played Head i.Prestige and Prestige before for several years. Played demos for about 6 hours each and waited for effect on shoulders, elbow etc.
Found handling acceptable for all 3, Head possibly better on serve
than other two. But V-T10MP stood out in terms of comfort during
and after play. Tested V-T10MP afterwards against ball machine
about 3000 balls same day baseline, volley and smash. Absolutely no
effect on shoulder, elbow or wrist. ( this was my problem after
lengthy play with Head i.P before I switched to V-T10M/MP )
I have never regretted the change.
You need to try it for yourself as all the experience of others will not give you the answer you are looking for. Have fun testing

The Tour 10 MP Generation II looks like the same racquet with the same specs as the Tour 10 MP Gen I (or Original) but with a Tour 10 MP V-Engine yellow paintjob. Am I wrong? Thus, it looks like the Tour 10 MP will not be discontinued after all but will just get a new paintjob or some may just refer to it as "new graphics". Looks like Volkl will sell the Tour 10 MP Gen II and the Tour 10 MP V-Engine side by side or are they about to discontinue the V-Engine version already? I mean it has been out for a whole month already.

It looks like the Gen II replaces Titanium with Fiberglass. Ouch, here I was just getting used to my LM Prestiges.

I guess we still have some time, though. If their past performance is of any indication, Volkl will take forever to bring this racquet to the US. If anyone remembers, they tried to bring only the Tour 10 Mid at first. For a while there was no mention of the Tour 10 MP in the Tennis press. I had to special order one from my friend who is a Volkl dealer. This is all the while when the Tour 10 MID was readily available.

Then there was also the joke with the Tour 9 V-Engine. First they brought the 18X20 version only to the US. Apparently, the folks at Volkl USA have no idea what American tennis players like. Perhaps, its time Don and my friends at a couple of shops around here have a talk with them.

Michael,
Please don't refrain. I want to hear all the negative opinions of this stick, too. Please do elaborate! Thanks

Sorry BreakPoint but some of the Volkl crowd are too sensitive and naive, I might hinder their decision-making and they might end up with a Kmart Special.

I had only about 90 minutes with this racquet in demo mode some time back. Normally I play with racquets that weigh about 10% more. I was expecting a slightly stiffer C10 feel. Well, it was stiffer. The power was a lot more than I figured...

It may have been the string job, but I had less control with this frame than just about any I've hit with. Some balls would react the way I would expect, others would just fly...just fly. I put it back into the bag and never had any interest in trying it again.

I like the C10 Pro, which I used for a couple of different stints, about a year all told, and I thought the 93 si version of the racquet was good. But the MP - could not figure it out at all.

michael i really dont think because you post something negative about anything on this board that people will follow you like lemmings marching over a cliff....i didnt know your opinions are so powerful :0. like who would care if you thought this axe was crap? funny post. ed

IMHO, you are doing a great disservice to others on this board by dissing a racquet so heavily because of your personal experience with it. People who read your comments, start doubting their racquet choice and inevitably start hesitating, then end up switching to another racquet just to go through the same experience again.

I like the feel of the T10MP. IMHO, I found the T10MP strung with a soft multifilament strings make the racket feel too dead especially on serves. So I string my T10MP rackets with Head Rip Control or Luxilon to get that pop on serves. I found that playing with this set-up every day has cause several problems with my shoulder and my forearm (mostly fatigue by the third day). I would not call this racket a good recreational racket.

I would rather play with my Head I Radical MP w/ Gamma ESP strings for a daily racket for recreational doubles and singles play. If I was training for singles tournament play, I would use the T10MP just because of the mass. Overall, it is a better racket against the power heavy ball hitters and servers.

I do feel one of the most underrated rackets is the Wilson Triad PS 6.0. If you string the Triad PS 6.0 with cheap synthetic gut, it has a nice feel and control similar to any of the "players rackets" out there with the more expensive strings. Considering this, you can obtain this racket for under $50.

I'm currently experimenting with the T10 MP. As NBMJ suggested, I chopped off two thirds of the grommet strip and added a Fairway. It became more headlight, but naturally lost some stability and pop. I ended up adding lead to the hoop and it seemed to take care of business. I found that this racket is highly customizable due to the fact that you can take weight OFF of the head and redistribute it to your liking (move the sweetspot). I prefer the feel of the C10 better, but after I'm done customizing the C10 (butt expansion, leather) it becomes too cumbersome. The T10 is not as sweet as the C10, but with my custom setup, it's more maneuverable. I became addicted to the mid 93" version, but found myself having to work too hard to stay in the point. The MP has a similar feel to the mid, but not as sweet. My T10 MPs are 362 grams and 12 pts HL. They do evrything fairly well, including the serve (if you just groove and don't force anything). For some odd reason, the T10 MPs just feel heavier than other rackets with the same balance and weight...I'm currently examining the effects of graphite/titanium composition on my arm...

I used the tour 10 for a year, unmodified, liked it a lot,had some trouble with serve power at first but adjusted my swing and got good results. The thing is,to me ,the Gen 2 is so much better all round.I would say both sticks best suited to 5.0 standard and up.

This thread is 9 months old. Long before the Gen II came out. All my questions about the Gen I were answered 9 months ago. No real need to revive this post as the Gen I is no longer available.

Last week, switched to Volkl Tour 10 MP Gen II from Head i.Radical MP (L4). Compared with Head L4, it is more heavier and comfortable (this is the reason that I change my frame).
But, I found it is NOT stable as I expect, and Head L4 is more easy to control than Tour 10 Gen II. I have few out-of-baseline using Head L4, but the case often occurs using T10 Gen II.
Does some guy have the same experience?
