Almagro is a single handed version of Djokovic?

Watching from their highlights, they seem to play alike. Very good drivers of the ball. Hits through with good fast topspin on both sides. Both have more natural backhands than forehands.

When they play a match they seem indistinguishable in terms of the balls. In that their balls seem to be very similar on both sides. Do people agree? But offcourse Djokovic is much more consistent.

An underachiever for sure. There was commentary years ago where a lot of the Spanish players felt he was more talented than Nadal.

Similar in what way? The ball itself?

If I interpret them being similar with the exception of almagro having a one hander then I'd expect almagro to have won a lot of slams. His backhand is excellent and It's not the one difference from Novak that stopped him from winning slams.

.

What I am saying is the ball being struck by those two players are very similar on both sides. As in the travelling ball has similar speed/speed on both sides despite one a single handed and the other a double.

Very interesting. I don't see a similarity but this post made me go back and see Almagro's OHBH in slow motion and analyze it in general. Didn't realize that he drove the ball so much more than I thought, even on his neutral rally ball on backhand side.

I don’t really think they could be more different. Almagro was the definition of a brainless ball basher, one of the worst tennis IQs in the pro game. He was an extremely good ball striker on clay- one of the very best during his prime. But that’s where the similarities with Novak end. He didn’t have any concept of defence or a plan B when his ball bashing strategy didn’t work.

I am just pointing to their balls. That’s all. Very different in all regards. Even their forehands look different but similar effect on the ball. When they apply each other it’s as if they are playing themselves in terms of the balls coming to and from.
