PLease let me know what do you think of my games any tips or comments are apreciated. By the way is this around 4.0-4.5 tennis. I did not have a really good hitting partner so there are not many long rallies.

Footwork.

Some forehands it seems like you decelerate the speed in which you hit the ball, this may be caused by getting too close to the ball, back to footwork.

Backhands it seems you're taking a few massive steps again, but it looks better than the forehand...

I don't know if it's just me or you seem to be hitting each forehand well long... maybe just the angle.

This is only 3:10 mins not 10 mins?

Oh, hahaha, I meant it is almost 11pm at night in my time zone. Need to go to bed. :) But I will get to it. I saw it a little and your open stance forehands. Let me take a closer look. What abou backhand? Are you okay there? I saw mainly forehands?????? Is there more?

I put alot of spin on the ball and my partner calls the balls that went out.

Sorry I don't think this is 4.0-4.5. I have a USTA 3.5-4.0 friend and he's so much better than you.

Good strokes, especially your backhand (better than your forehand). The bad: footwork, balance, and smoothness.

Well, we didnt see the rest of his game, serve etc... And remember 4.0's aren't necessarily perfect in their tecnique. Certainly, within the 4.0 and 4.5 their are shades of gray as well. We have strong 4.0's and weaker 4.0's. However, a 4.0 isn't judged necessarily on whether they can beat all the other 4.0's but whether they can be competitive at that level even if they lose a match.

Good call on the balance thing. Especially as he brings the racquet forward. More on that later.

As I stated I don't really have good hitting partners. Also yes I watch the ball but not that well.

Don't think about the restriction, think about the opportunity.

My point: I knew a fellow that had won the Taiwan Jr. National Championships many years ago and when I practiced with him he was at the semi-pro level.

I was probably a 2.5-3.0 at best at the time but what did he do? He hit it back consistently to me the entire time, no matter where I placed the ball. True, he is a higher level, but that is what you need to focus on. Not so much the power, but rather the placement - get it back to your hitting partners as best as you can even if you have to bring your power down a notch.

I ask if you watch the ball because you seem to always be "facing fowards" when you hit.

Oh my, finally some real good advice. Love it. Very good.

1. Tone it down - check.

2. Dont overhit - check.

3. Place the ball - check.

4. Allow your partner to hit it back - check.

5. Dont overrotate too soon or at all - check.

Now that we pointed out some things wrong, next it is time to give him solutions to fix this stuff along with drills, etc...

But very good, I like it.

It depends on how you hit against harder hitters. If what we see in both videos hold up then yes, I would say 4.0.....maybe low 4.5 conservatively. You simply hit most of your balls to hard for most, if not all 3.5's and lower to handle well consistently. I would guess that if you played 3.5 players and lost you would lose, they wouldn't win.

Biggest thing that is unsightly to me is that wristy forehand that needs improvement with the footwork and setting the body.

I'm a bit lazy right now, and BB can easily cover it all for you once he gets to it.

4.5? No

4.0, a possibility.

One of the main things I see is the ball getting way too close to your body on the forehand. It seemed to me that you had sub par footwork, so why don't you just hit a backhand instead? Your shot selection is very questionable.

Nice backhand, stay off the rear heels on your forehands. Fores, try to stay balanced and solid, not hopping and moving back.
Possibly you use lots of loopy moon balls on the forehands, something good to allow you to run and retrieve, but not necessarily win points against better players.
I think it's time for you to get serious and decide whether you want to put out the energy and time to get past that 4.0 obstacle. If you do, you need lots of disipline, balance, controlled swinging, and energy/concentration.
Of course, you need partners who can hit back 20 balls, who can run most of your shots down, and actually hit with depth PLUS pace and spin.
I suspect your shots take lots of your energy, shortening your concentration after a few hours of practice the 7th day in a row. Too much energy expended in a simple forehand is not something any top player likes to do.

Wow my strokes look so different from the front than back. I never realized I was hitting the ball this close to my body. Eventhough my arm extends all the way my contact point is more next to my body than infront. I wish I could get better hitting partners but thats hard. I agree I need to work on my footwork and my balance. I never realized I was this off balance during my shots. I will try my best to get better and put a new vid up.

Great vid. I see a lot of similarities between our games. I especially like how loose your wrist is allowing you to impart a nice amount of spin. I'll leave the critiquing to those more qualified than I, but I definitely like the direction you're heading in.

You've given me the urge to record myself as I haven't done so with a hitting partner in about a year now. From someone who's learned exclusively from video-recording himself, I definitely recommend recording yourself from numerous angles as you'll naturally spot more irregularities to your stroke. That said though, the rear view has helped me the most as it gives me a better sense of my footwork and movement.

Keep it up!

Semi-Pro
Forehand:
Hitch on the end of the backswing after the ball bounce.
Weight balance load on the right but doesn't transfer to left or center.

Loosen the grip for a few balls to get a flow on the swing line forward.
Start thinking forward right before the ball bounce on your side.
Stay in rhythm with the ball bounce to your strike (don't set to a full stop before you hit)

Backhand:
Racket back lower near the pocket by the time ball bounces.
Get body lower to hit with base instead of just shoulders.
Slice, finish swing on left side of body. Remember slice is hit on the rise or from a low ball coming. Hitting slice on a ball coming down typically produces a floating slice.

Balance:
Balance on the shot is better achieved by always thinking of getting balance after the shot. Hit and hold with balance forward on the front knee.

Better footwork is such a broad term. More times than not it has to do with ball path read off of strike, to positioning. You don't look like you're in bad shape so I don't think its physical quickness is your issue. Tracking skills is different for most people on the forehand vs backhand. It is sometimes linked to dynamic visual acuity in conjunction with left or right eye dominance.
