Andy Murray's listed Height & Weight

This has bothered me for some time now as Andy Murray has clearly gained more muscle last couple of years.

I was just trying to get the most recent photos. Obviously he's not carrying too much weight but when watching him play you don't get the sense he's just 185lbs at a listed 6"3.

I will say that in tennis it doesn't seem players' weight is listed truthfully as it seemingly rarely changes.

I myself just under 6"1 once weighed in at 171lbs, at age 17. I was extremely thin. Murray for his height and build strikes me as between 195-205lb. Certainly not under 190. Federer by comparison is listed at 187lbs at 6"1.

Raonic meanwhile is listed at 216lbs at a height of 6"5 and is quite lanky.

In this article from 2010 he is listed as 13 stone and 7lbs, or 189lbs.

I feel as many do that he's certainly gained since 2010. Which would confirm my suspicion of 190+.

In comparison to other sports, Stephen Curry is listed at the same 185lbs at 6"3.

But the NBA is known for inflating player heights and Curry is closer to 6"1 than 6"3.

So is Andy Murray simply shorter or his weight is being lied about?

He must be getting on 200lbs, a lot of weight to drag around in those Murray-Go-Round's eh?

I was thinking this too. I was checking out some pre-US Open interviews and noticed this one. Murray's thigh game is massive.

Together with Berdych strongest legs in mens tennis for sure ;) and both of them are moving exceptionally well for their build... Djoko on the other hand is bruce lee of tennis so no wonder for his stretching abilities ;)

I think some of you are being thrown by how his shirts fit him. He's still on the lean side from the waist up so 185 is very possible. The shirts are cut for him so being that fitting makes him look bulkier. And his body fat is probably 6% or lower. People you know who you consider to be in great shape are still probably double digits.

And I see no reason to list a higher weight.

This has "bothered" the OP for "sometime now"...ummn...relax.

Just like they don't use the racquets that theirs are painted to look like, they also don't honestly list height and weight.... a trend in all sports. Hell, the females all are listed smaller than they are...being some segments of society can't handle the thought of 6'3" females.

But...trust me..if you go live and get close you'll realize every player, male or female is a lot leaner and less bulky than they look on camera.

OP, comparisons:
Usain Bolt:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usain_Bolt - 6'5, 207 lb.
Justin Gatlin: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Gatlin - 6'1, 183 lb
Linford Christie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linford_Christie (extremely buff) - 6'2, 203 lb

I think it's safe to say Murray's still below 200 pounds, but he might be above 190. Am very surprised by Raonic's weight, heavy bone structure?
Ranic has bulked up a lot, his thighs are huge. I actually think he's too big for tennis, he should lose some to become more nimble.

Anyway, check him out a few years ago, that's when he was skinny

Who do you reckon is the most muscular (Buff) Male tennis player in the top 100? Wawrinka is a big lad.

No sexual connotations.

Considering how i've never seen the physical attribute stats change on any of the players, I don't think you should take them too seriously. Murray likely just gave his weight to the ATP when he turned pro, at like 17 or whatever. No one cares enough to keep updating the weights of the players.

How do you get to 6 percent body fat? Thats insane!!!

Lies. There's literally no way. Muscle weighs more than fat.

Listed at 179lbs at 6"0.

Safin is listed at 195lbs at his 6"4 frame, which is even more laughable. No way he's under 200lbs, more like 210.

THIS a thousand times. I suppose tennis is not a sport where that would matter too much but I don't see why listing a higher weight would be a negative.

First off, again muscle weighs more than fat and secondly, 6% is a lot harder than you think. None of this information is revealed but going under 10% is for marathon runners, and I'm serious.

Apolo Ohno was supposedly down to 2.8% at one point before the Olympics.

Listed at 134lbs at 5"8 (but more like 5"7). If you look at 10lbs an inch and go up to Murray you get 70 more pounds at 204. Murray's frame is wider than Ohno's.

Look at NFL athletes, whose weight is better updated.

Minnesota+Vikings+v+Arizona+Cardinals+JqAyj_2DxG2l.jpg

Kurt Warner was listed 6"2 and 220lbs. He's considered to be a mid-size Quarterback I suppose but nowhere near ripped.

I myself ranged from 210-220lbs when I lifted in college, again under 6"1. When I was back playing tennis quite frequently last year I hovered between 195-200lbs. I fail to see how Murray being at least 2 inches taller is losing 10+lbs to me. But I digress, like another posters said, he's probably got his 18 year old weight listed.

Yeah, old Serena sure has been hindered by being 'too big for tennis'.

You and Patrick McEnroe think alike, which is not much at all.

I've often wondered about the same thing myself. A player like Federer is 2 inches shorter, looks much slimmer, but is still listed heavier than Andy. Doesn't make any sence to me.

Hewitt, definitely. Oh you said no connotations haha

Wawrinka has a big frame but not really that muscular, Berdych has huge legs....Murray might be close overall...he's like 6 2 185 ripped

No way Murray was 185 at age 17. He was skinny as hell. Rublev is 17 now and 6-2, he is listed at 155. I'd say Murray wasn't much bulkier than Rublev at the same age, so I doubt he was more than 160.

True. See the way he used to look in 2006:

Andy Murray has short little legs and there is not a snowballs chance in Hell that he is 6'3" tall. He looks to be more around the 6 foot mark. Football players are listed bigger and taller, Basketball players do the same. I listed my son as 6'-2" in High School hockey and he is only 6'-1"
