Any way to fix a handle that has been shaved down too much?

I bought a couple of rackets cheap as a guy has messed up shaving down the handle. The bevels are totally out of sync with where they should be. Is there any light substance I could use to shape it back to normal?

You could use a service that reshapes handles. There are several in NYC. You could contact @Geoff and see what he would charge. Both cases, you probably will need to ship the frames off.

If you are handy with tools, you could sand the handles until they are symmetric again and rebuild the handles with balsa wood using 1/32" or 1/16" sheets. Or you could use a grip sleeve, which will add a large amount of mass to the handle depending on how much buildup is needed.

Some frames have replacement pallets available. And they do fit with some effort on frames that have foam handles. You do need to do a search since I do not keep up with these details.

Thanks but was looking for a way to do it myself, live in UK and racket not worth that much (DR98)

I guess the question is, " How bad are the racquets?", and did you know about the issue when you bought them ?

Maybe possible to remove the existing handle and fit Head pallets? Pretty sure someone did it to a 6.1 Classic on this forum.

If I were going to do this I’d use bondo or another 2 part epoxy. Much more difficult to sand but you’re getting a much more dudrable product.

Handles are screwed. And some yonex racquets have a weird hairpin shape which might make it pretty much impossible to put other pallets on. Think re-molding handles would be only way to get good result.

Where do you go to get this done? Or is there any guide as to how I could do this?

Geoff on here does it in the states, and a place in NY too. Dont know about any in europe, but will prob be pricey.

Have read up a fair bit on this, but theres no how to guide. You need to create the mold for the handle yuo want, which for someone impatient like me is the pia bit, have been thinking about going to a shop that does it and getting them to make one for me. Then you need some 2part p.u foam i think it is about 12lb density for the molded handle?

Tennis warehouse Australia has a product called SiZ-UP I have used these a lot and they work very well. You can use different sizes as well and the number of pallets to change grip shape.

Wow i havent seen those before! How light are they do you know? And what sort of handle shape do they give? Rounder like prince or more rectangular like head?

Edit; found the weight in another thread but what do you think of the grip shape?

If the original grip is intact, they will take the form of it and remain the same as original. You could use pieces from a +1 and +4 for example to create a slightly different grip shape. I've even cut some of them up to create a more square shaped grip on a head racquet. The weight is not a big issue to me as I generally add weight to my racquets to make them more head lite.

Check my reply to V. Another nice thing about these is that you maintain the feel of the bevels unlike putting on a larger grip or overgrip where the bevels start to become rounded off. If someone has sanded or shaved a handle, chances are the bevels are already slightly rounded off, unless they did the mod correct. These pallets will restore the bevels.

Which one do you buy? Just one size up one? Or is the 1,2,3 and 4 referring to grip size?

They're great! Comfort will also depend on the grips you use. There is a thread somewhere here which lists most grips, overgrips, and their thicknesses and weight.
Yep got some fairly thick grips ready, could still get life out of these DR's yet!

Man how cool ! Don’t know how sturdy the pieces are but if strong enough wonder if you could slide them down a bit to create a longer racket ? Anyone know the capabilities of this with the aforementioned product ?

XTP buttcap does a good job of that for a cheap price imo

They aren't thick enough to do that. However, if you own a head racquet, you can change the pallets and NOT cut them, or cut just enoough to leave the extra length you want. I did this once to a Head Speed S so I could see how it would play as a 27.5 raquet. It actually played quite well. I don't know how well they would hold up though. I think the XTP buttcap is the best option as already mentioned here.

Quick update on this, I feel I have solved this issue now so will explain the process. I added wood filler to level up the bevels so that they were pronounced again, I then shaved them back down as much as I could until there was only little bits of wood filler where the bevels has been over filed.

Big thanks to @DrWang who suggested the Siz-Up and I managed to pick some up from France (I live in the UK).

So I bought them cut them down so that the ran from the top of the handle to the buttcap bit (I didn't overrun it to the bottom of the handle as didn't want a thicker grip).

Using a new main grip that already had tape on it, I regripped it which has held the Siz-Up in place nicely. Put on an overgrip and tested the two rackets.

They now play much better, I am able to pick my targets again and they will be worthy number 2 and 3 rackets for me moving forward.

The Siz-Up is very light so doesn't add a tonne of weight to the racket and definitely helps make sure you can still feel proper bevels.

I searched for the product and the river site carries it. Now I have to see if anyone asks me to enlarge their grip.

edit: Looked, but not available there.
