Anyone else finding Yonex frames destructable...

a little too easy? I mean, the first one obviously was my fault, smashed to pieces, but only yesterday I served and the racquet slipped out of my hand. Of course, this is acceptable if the racquet was to fly straight down into the ground, but what if the racquet flew to the service line at least, losing a lot of momentum, but still cracking? I only noticed it today in a Tournament, making me switch back to my PS 85 and no Problems with that frame

Also, a friend of mine owned that old fluoro yellow Yonex, the first one he owned started having stress fractures at the throat, so he took it back and they gave him a replacement, which lasted less time than the first.

Duzza, sorry to hear that.

My doubles partner broke both his RDS001's. With the first one, he tested the durability of the fence = Fence 1, RDS001 0  The other was almost the same example as you gave, easy overhead in warm ups, racket comes out of his hand , not hard, hits on head, cracked at the bend. We were both amazed that it broke with such ease.

Maybe the head shape can't withstand a blow like that.

Luckily I haven't tested the resiliency of my RDX500's.

I broke a racquet once on a serve that slipped. One of my team mates busted a head racquet like that about 6 months ago. I'm actually more surprised when the don't break. Seems like that's more rare in my experience.

Although my RDS 001s are heavily scratched, they have survived me. I don't throw them though, I just go for everything.

The Ti-80s that I've used in my experience have been very durable. One has been subjected to rather rigorous abuse and has survived to this day (albeit, a bit scratched). ;)
I guess some models just hold up better than others...

Yes my Mp-2i has 2 fine cracks either side of the throat. Only used it for 1.5 yrs wich for a social player is not much when compared to peaple who play competitivly and all yr round. ( PS that's why I was looking at the RDS 001, not my raquet though, too much for me)

My SRD Tour 95 has lasted me since 1998. Strung at 70 lbs for most of that time and I do toss it when I get frustrated. It could do with a new grommet but otherwise is in good shape.

i cracked/broke 2 RD ti-70 long within 2 months.

It was my bad because both time i tossed them head first onto the court out of frustration.

i did not THROW them or SMASH them, just merely tossed it. and they both broke on the exact same spot.

Yonex was super super nice and replaced both, no questions asked.

i drove down to their Torrance office and turned the broken ones in for new ones. I got free grips, strings, and the new ones even came with cover!!

I've found bits of the paintwork on the RDS flecks off quite easily but I did fall backwards on a wet court..

Yonexes (Yonices??) are famously fragile. Look into the Archives here and you'll find that the V-Con 17 shaft was so prone to cracking that it had to be reengineered with a different material, and the 1500 series also seemed to crack relentlessly; there were many posts about getting Yonex to replace them. I can't recall another brand that has had so many complaints here about cracks.

Yeah, V-Con 17, that's the one my friend had and went through billions of times.

I used my RDX Mids for two or so years, pretty heavy use, no babying at all, and never had a single problem. I have a few friends using them as well and not issues there, either.

I asked about this at our local shop after reading other "yonex racquets break easy" comments here, and the shop owner said that Yonex racquet returns have not been a problem for him.

I'm just wondering, but exactly what did you say to get them replaced? "I TOSSED my rackets, and they broke." "Okay, come on down and we'll get you a new one!"

That could be the case, but I can't seem to imagine the kind of conversation you had with them. The "within two months" was probably the key phrase there though.

About the fragility of the rackets; I'm super OCD about my rackets, so I probably won't get to experience this, as long as I regrip my rackets more often. How old was your grip? This reminds me because today during a serve it twisted horrendously, enough to make my heart skip for a second.

I was using a leather straight up. As soon as it happened I put an overgrip on.

Yonex frames are 2 piece construction. I don't know too many others that are 2 piece. I've never experience problems with my Yonexes, but do you think the 2 piece construction plays a part in (perceived) fragility of the frames?

great, now I'm going to be paranoid everytime I leave my racquets at the stringer and when I'm playing on court -_-

Any story behind the picture?
Yeah, you know how in Japan they have people sleeping in drawers, furniture on the ceilings, multi functional kitchens that also serve as bathrooms? Yeah, this is Yonex's effort in the space saving crisis.
