Apparel "etiquette" question

I am new to the game so this is probably a dumb question but it seems like tennis kind of has it's own etiquette, which is cool.

When you guys wear white shorts, do you match it up with a white shirt or is it better to go with something like blue or black?

Conversely, when I wear black or blue, should I wear a black or blue shirt, or wear something lighter, like white or gray?

Do you also match up your footwear?

Or is it just personal preference?

I don't know if there is any "etiquette" per say. All I know is I hate when I wear nice tennis clothes, and then get smoked by a dude in a tattered t-shirt and pair of sweat shorts.

Public facilities you can wear whatever you want as long as you are wearing nonmarking shoes.

I am getting my first pair of white shorts tomorrow and i wonder if people will see my predominately plaid pattern undergarment wardrobe that i have.

As long as it's not a private club, you can wear whatever the heck you want. Just don't get in the habit of going shirtless - some people tend to frown on that.

lol. i remember watching this one guy with a huge gut serving. his shirt was too short, so when he raised his arms to serve, his gut hung out nastily. then, when he contacted the ball, the shockwaves went right through the gut, fat jiggling everywhere.

I don't like white shorts on guys, personally. If you're going with a color, wear black bottoms. Remember that black and navy together are usually a Don't.

I think the underwear question is fascinating, as I've no idea what guys do. For women, you match the underwear color to your skin, not the outfit. White, wear white or flesh tone. Black, wear black or brown.

I know I do notice when I can discern a guy's underwear color under his tennis shorts. Not a good look. Sorry, fellas.

Not that I actually ever notice or anything, as it would be rude to stare. Right?

Most of my stuff is black and white. That makes it easy to keep things matched, because you can always incorporate whatever color (except navy) you want as long as the others aren't anything but black and white or something that matches.

In practice, wear whatever you want. On match day, it's good to look nice.

you mean mostly white, like wimbledon? I dont see how you could wear all white with the brands being white also.

Yep personal preference..

My favourite outfit i have is the following:

-Blue Nike Fed 08 Australian Open Polo
-Black Nike Control 9" Shorts
-Black Socks
-Black Nike Vapor 5

Again it's all personal preference!

True, but also sad. Borg dropped out and basically became a drug addict. It's good to see he's recovered since. He's been at both this and last year's Wimbledon finals.

I think all white is a neat look, but I rarely use it. I tend to wear a fairly light blue shirt with all white shorts. I normally wear mostly white shirts with black or blue shorts.

OK, thanks...that's exactly what I was asking.

So do you wear a white top with white shorts? Doesn't that look like you are playing at Wimbledon? Or selling ice cream?

I have been wearing a blue or gray with the white shorts. When I do this with my "regular" summer type clothes it looks fine. I guess that's what led me to the OP.

I know that this is personal preference but I was curious to other people's preference.
