No matter how much exercise you do, it won't mean anything if you take in more calories than you expend so in other words, diet is the key. Eat less and move more. I'd recommend weight training as well because increased muscle mass helps you burn more calories.

I second the weight training tip. It's the most efficient way to lose weight. Dieting can be tricky because your brain will subconciously try to keep your body weight the same - weight training is a way to trick your brain into allowing your weight to drop.

With other forms of exercise like walking, your brain will compensate for the calories burnt by making you hungrier.

Take today and decide to get in shape ... do three things out of the ordinary which will promote your fitness - for example, walk a flight of stairs a few times extra, stand up and sit down a handful of times for no reason at all, make a better diet choice once a day, twice a day ...

With dieting, you absolutely will slip up, heck, even Lance Armstrong slips up ... it's okay ... but never give up on your decision to make a change in your fitness level ... even one change a day makes a difference ...

In my opinion, playing tennis for 5 minutes a day makes you a tennis player!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is your:

1. Health status? Injuries, diseases (diabetes?), impairments?
2. Height
3. Weight
4. Age

Generally, the advice given above is helpful, but any exercise advice will depend upon your health status and HOW obese you are and at what age.

Contrary to popular belief and expert research, fat (obese) people are actually generally better at tennis than your average, normal-shaped person. The difference comes from the fact that Mr. Tubby, being of a more rotund build, has a much more accurate, innate insight into the physics of a ball-shaped object. Top-spin and side-spin, underspin and no spin - these things come naturally to the pretty and plump tennis player.

So get out there and practice practice practice!

That's just stupid and insulting - do you think comments like that will encourage someone to play tennis?

It's possible for you to start playing tennis but you will probably enjoy it even more if you can improve your overall health. Pedometers are pretty handy tools for encouraging you to move more. It can be rather intimidating to think in terms of walking a certain # of miles. But improving the # of steps you take each day is pretty easy to do. I think weightlifting helps you lose weight and just gives you a good release.

Focus on your decision to do something good for yourself, not on the idiotic comments that some make.
